The two black Unicrons were extremely similar. There was different shade for the minicon, but in all likelihood it might have been due to the manufacturing process rather than the design.

I wonder if we'll ever get an official English rendering of this figure's name in Latin script so that we don't have to use either the official "Shūgō-tai" term or the not-quite-correct "Combine" term.

Looking forward to Encore Unicron (Micron Combine Type Color)? Well thanks to Takara Tomy we have even more pictures!

Following our report here, Takara Tomy have updated their website with even more photos of this upcoming Encore release. This version of Unicron uses the Armada Unicron mold but uses green translucent plastic and new deco to represent the combined power of the minicons (Microns in Japan, hence the name of this release) when they to fend off Unicron in the final episodes of Armada. These photos mainly take the form of 360 degree turn around pictures, allowing us to see all angles of this toy in both robot and planet mold. There is also a few new pictures of his accompanying Minicon.

I hadn't realized until now that the feet and planet rings are still gray instead of green. Not sure how I feel about that.

Silver, not gray, which I don't mind since it has a bit of a reflectiveness to it. Also digging the gradient used on the larger horns. Hopefully some of these are still available next year at a decent price.

Even if it's plainly an object for completists, I'm quite fond of it. I like it better than the original "Hikari no Unicron".

Is is just me or is the planet mode transformed wrong in these pictures? I'm fairly certain that the head shouldn't be visible.

Yeah, it's been pointed out. The feet are supposed to be pushed in more to cover the gap (the ring isn't attached between the feet properly to compensate).

The latest entry in the Encore line from Takara arrived today. Which is amazing, considering it was just released in Japan and I am all the way in Canada. Shipping only took two days and was $10 USD (the total of my order including duty and customs was $140 USD).

The full name of this release is Transformers TF Encore Unicron Micron Gathering Body Color, meaning that this is the Unicron mold in the colour representing all minicons combining. The effect in the Armada show was a bright glowing chartreuse/green. This colour is done here though a combination of clear green plastic, green plastic, and green paint. This is a much more accurate rendition than the lucky draw we previously got which was more teal than fluo green, with quite a bit of grey plastic and less clear plastic than this version. You can view that initial version here.

You will find some images below of this toy in both robot mode and alt mode as well as Bug (his minicon) and comparison images with the original Armada Unicron. You can also see the box and how he is packaged. While it is the same mold we all know, here are a few points I found noteworthy:

This figure is not mostly clear plastic, it is a 50/50 mixture of clear and non clear plastic. The clear plastic pars are his chest flaps, the planet kibble on his back and legs, the forearms and hands, the crotch flaps and the thighs.

The wings and feet are not the grey plastic we have had before, they instead have a green tint.

This really is just a straight redeco, there is nothing changed to the mold nor the electronics.

This means that the problems of floppy wings persists and the electronics give red lights, rather than green lights.

The inner chest missile does not function very well on my copy and gets stuck inside 9/10 times.

But man, I know Unicron has issues with floppy wings, but man... I like that figure. And seeing these pics I look over and I see the OG Armada release standing on my shelf, and I can’t help but smile. And this guy here, he looks delicious, like a green Jolly Rancher.
