Why waste the money?
Thing is, to get the set, it's not that much more than the american release. I'll save you all the lectures and say it's not a big money difference, as has been stated before. It's just personal preference, which you and I prefer hasbro

I do want you to elaborate please. The UW Bruticus set is up for pre-order on BBTS for $135 not including shipping. If I bought the set at retail stores like Target and Wal-Mart (and even Amazon.com), that would be $17 per limb and $26 for the core figure, bringing the total to $94. Looking at these two numbers, $94 and $135 is a huge difference, a difference of $41.
So what am I missing?
You are missing 2 things.
1. You didn't include taxes
2. You are using BBTS as an example and BBTS is not a first party takara retailer unlike Amazon, Target or Walmart are in your example of Hasbro retailers (BBTS is also a first party Hasbro retailer).
BBTS is as much a Takara retailer as any third party scalper selling a Hasbro product on Amazon. None actually bought it directly from the company.
So, lets look at a first party takara retailer. Nippon Yassan is a good example. Oh look, they still have Takara's Superion
https://www.nippon-yasan.com/figures/11 ... erion.html (that toy's been released for a while now, so don't confuse this with a preordrer price)
I will spare the currency conversion, it comes out to $93.19 cents. So absolutely no difference from your $94 for Hasbro. Of course, you have to ship it to the US, but that is the price for shipping it, not to be confused by the price of the actual figure. So in the end, Takara and Hasbro is the same price, you just have to add the shipping, but that depends on where you are in the world, which varies from fan to fan. It doesnt remove the fact that for the same price of the Hasbro one, Takara gives you that extra rotor on Vortex and a totally new mold. So in the end, Hasbro's is the one that is more expensive, since it cost less to make but they are charging you the same price. But since americans look at their total cost to be the cost of their toys, they ignore that (when in reality you are comparing price of toy + shipping comapred to another version which doesnt require shipping).
Oh and about taxes, the states dont tax import from japan, so you save on taxes, hence why its important to include in your analysis
