You are correct that he didn't mention a "something" (thank you for the dialogue transcript, btw), but he did mention having "a way" to rebuild them, which many G1 fans interpreted as involving the Matrix, and that Optimus was the first successful attempt.

I'm not saying that it is true that Alpha Trion used the Matrix to turn Orion into Optimus, rather I am only explaining what Sto originally meant when he said that the idea of the Matrix not turning Orion into Optimus was "debatable", as some fans do think this regardless of whether this idea is correct or not.

The difference in meanings matter enough to Sto (he's not gonna relent, so please work with me here). "Created" suggests an original construction from an origin point. "Rebuilt"/"reconstruction" suggest a second or later construction from a previous construction. Orion-to-Optimus by Alpha Trion was the latter.


However, to mesh both views together into a statement of equality, it is fair to say that Alpha Trion "created" Optimus (as you say) by "rebuilding" Orion (as Sto says).

Perhaps they are waiting for next summer because of the 30th anniversary of TF: The Movie. Sounds like an excellent opportunity to me. It would also be a great time for Hot Rod too if they can pull off that quick of turn around.
