It works for Road Rage who hasn't had cartoon model precedence, but Tracks did.

Pointing out the old adage. "No News is Good News"

Ever wonder if we didn't know who the designer was or just slap a sticker designed by Hasui. Would the design be a conversation at all? Is this a form of "designer" loyalty albeit a subconscious one?

People didnt know Hasui was gone and they were all wondering what was up with the MP line (especially with Ironhide). Knowing Hasui left lat least helps us understand a bit.

And Sabr, there is way worse than the proportions. Tehres the fact that he has the worst visible head syndrome in all MPs so far as well as how terrible his robot mode looks from the side. And yes, I do pose my robots this way, especially when doing a battle display. It looks so terrible, you take a look here and tell me if you guys are seeing what I am seeing or if tis just me:

Image

His head isnt even alligned with his body, its all a mishmash with a giant gap, no thanks.

I have an MP tracks. and while he may not be as screen accurate, it does the job fine, has no halloness and a perfect alt mode (while a different model):

I do think some concerns are a bi overblown for the Rodmeister. Compared to MP-09, This one would be much much better. So long as his shoulder joints doesn't explode, I'll be a happy trooper.

Patience guys and gals.

Remember Lambor? A lot of criticsms too. Same wit BB but well you know...still came out good.

That being said, it's not something I normally do but admittedly, have been overly critical of poor ol Hot Rod.

Lucky for him I'm one of those blinkered collectors who just gets all first-release Masterpieces, regardless of how flawed they may be. :-P

I think Rod has a bit of a backpack, but otherwise he looks nice to me. I'm gonna have both him and the older one, since that one works better as a Prime, due to his size.

They're not exactly the same character, so it's fine in my book.

It's a smart way to go about it. The first ones are also usually what ends up being the best price as well as what is worth most later.

I still dont know what to make of this guy. I will be waiting for a review for him (along with Ironhide) before I make up my mind. Of course, that will mean that I will probably have lost my chance at getting him for the best price.

That depends on your point of view, and what characteristics you consider. MP-28 isn't better at everything. As a display piece, especially in robot mode, MP-09 is superior, in my opinion. Once you start handling it and fiddling with it (Primus forbid, attempt to transform it  ) yes, it becomes less attractive, but that's based on speculation that MP-28 won't be a complete turd. He looks simpler than MP-09, but until you actually have it in hand, or at least see a video review of someone having it in hand, you don't know. No one does. Yes, I realize MP-09 is generally regarded as a failure in terms of an actual transformer when it comes to the purpose of transformation, but (again, in my opinion) he looks acceptable if not exceptional in both modes when displayed. Same goes for the TRU version. That is and will be my MP Hot Rod. I may get MP-28 to display in vehicle mode, but he will rarely, if ever, see robot mode. But again, I will wait until I see at least a review of someone having it in hand, because just like you, I don't know how he is. I'm just looking at photos like the rest of you.

Here is something for Burn to make up for going off track.

Looking at this photo, I realize somethig pretty cool:

Image

His arms will be flipping 180. I dont know if it will be like that quintesson transfomration we are all fond of. But since his chest is the fron of his car and the shoulders are the front wheels (unlike the Animated rodimus where they form the back wheels), the only way for the car mode to work (meaning the wheels touch the ground) is if the right shoulder goes on the left side and the left shoulder to go on the right side of the car. So yeah, its will be pretty involved with 2 layers forming the back and the legs being all underneath.

Also with the front, back and arms being all made up of car pieces, this is not shellformer in any sense of that word.

:-? This guy intrigues me a lot more now. Don't know if I will still be able to wait till a Hasbro version + a discount.

Still, he'd be 60$ US shipped, cheapest alternative, which is not exactly cheap.

I don't know if I should consider myself fortunate to have missed on MP-09. Despite having a version 2, the horror stories scared me away. He's the only "Convoy" I missed in the MP series.

I get what you mean, I've never been offput by any mp until ironhide - there's just something off about his desgin, and the shape of his torso - tracks - upon review, has a cavernous collar area, pretty fugly - and hotrod - just a pile aesthetic problems.

I was ok with the initial pics and like everyone, I want a good rodimus (and shockwave). As you might read from above, I warmed up to this guy due to how cool his transformation might be so I went to amiami to preorder him. While on the page, I took a look at the pics and saw this:

Image

Sorry to be crude but F that STUFF! That backpack is attrocious. I thought it was maybe 2 layers like the animated toy but this is insane. It just keeps extending outward and I really hate how his chest doesnt tab in smoothly with his side, it creates this ugly gap. Yeah, I am not paying 60-70$ for this. I am back to my original strategy, waiting for the reviews, then waiting for Hasbro then waiting for a sale.

Hopefully the Canadian dollar gets better in those 4 years before all this comes to fruition.

Beyond that, what's up with the back of his waist!?! This is so hideous, but to be fair, I don't think anyone could do mp-10 design quality - not even 3p companies - that's how far away I think that goal is >:oP

I don't mind Ironhide, I know a lot of people have expressed complaints about him, but I think I'm more of the mindset "ERMAGHERD IT'S IRONHIDE!!!!1111!!!11!!!" and I'm blindly overlooking potential faults.

Tracks, I like. I know people feel he's out of proportion but to me it kinda suits the character.

Those two aside, I am also a little baffled by the engineering of Hot Rod and Shockwave.

Looking at the pic Billy-Jim just posted, it looks like the most complex part of his transformation is in all that back kibble. Like they've really gone out of their way to engineer the heck of out of him.

But when you look at Shockwave, it looks like they just took his original G1 version and gave him a bit of articulation. Simplified engineering, and it works.

They should have done that with Hot Rod and we would have gotten a much better result.

I love the proportions of tracks, my only thing is that the collar area looks really empty, but I will wait for Ryan's galleries to judge. I get that people want Ironhide, and I'm happy for them, but a memo was definitely missed in his design process.

Compared to the G1 and Animated toys, that backpack is massive. I mean, the Datsun Brothers' front ends don't stick out from the front as much as that does from the back. Right?

I'm still buying it though. The backpack hinge on my MP TRU Rodimus has broken on one side and now will never be transformed. AND HE WASN'T TRANSFORMED IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! Sadness.
