No new characters, no new ideas, no new Dinobots, just same old same old stagnation.

Anyone think that this "old body" prime is the flat nose rusty semi we've been seeing? I mean BB has two alt modes, so its highly possible that Optimus has two alt modes as well.

I don't know. Who are Dinbots?
Also, we've gotten different lineups of Dinobots in the past, so your point is moot:
Beast Machines Dinobots
T-Wrecks
Triceradon
Terranotron
Striker
Airraptor
Dinotron
Terranotron
Rapticon
Classics Minicons Dinobots
Swoop
Hacksaw
Terrorsaur
Knockdown
PCC
Four drones
Grimstone

And yes, doing the original 5 Dinobots would be massively strange if they were scale to the animals that they are modeled after.
Swoop would be likely quite small and weak. Sludge would be insanely huge and slow.
What's weird is, why is Grimlock so damn huge? A real T-Rex would be shorter than Prime in his robot mode. So it must be scale to Prime as though Prime were an average human's size compared to his dino mode.
Strafe is not a dinosaur. We know from product package art that a Triceratops is in it. So what is Strafe modeled after? Q/Wheeljack isn't involved in their creation. So we know that Bay is writing a whole new origin with new characters. I just hope Grimlock is roughly akin to the G1 character. I love the War Within Grimlock best. Bay has another opportunity for great character development. But I would expect him to blow up that chance like he always has. Still want to see this movie for sure though.
Well, I'm not exactly sure if it would work, but Shockwave did crash in Siberia, which is fairly close to China (I know it's not that close, but it's on the same landmass.). Maybe Shockwave brought them, and they escaped during the crash and made it to China?
On another note, I've realized why Optimus riding Grimlock bothers me so much. Judging from any Grimlock's personality, would he ever let himself be used as anyone's mount?

That's fine, but it's only your view. (You're entitled to it, of course.) When I hear Dinobots, I think "Grimlock, Slag, Swoop, Snarl and Sludge." There's nothing wrong with that. It's common sense. That's the point I was trying to make. I have no problem with other characters added in and labeled Dinobots, as long as they have dinosaur alternate modes. Just because I would like to see the original 5 Dinobots in the movie, (something that would have been more looked-forward-to by most of the fandom, I am willing to bet} doesn't mean I am against new characters.

How is "When I hear Dinobots, I think "Grimlock, Slag, Swoop, Snarl and Sludge."" common sense? That sounds more like personal opinion to me.

Unlikely. He's still got parts from his Peterbilt truck mode on him, the air horns on his shoulders being the most noticeable. That said, I'm not sure if that's dust or rust on him.
Though, whoever the Freightliner is is going to be someone teeny tiny compared to the great big Optimus Prime.Va'al wrote:We had a fairly reliable rumour that the silver/blue cab is Ultra Magnus, but nothing more than that.

It is personal opinion. Hence the "I think" part of the sentence. Common sense and personal opinion aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. It is my personal opinion that when the term/name "Dinobots" is mentioned, the names Grimlock, Slag, Snarl, Sludge and Swoop would be the 1st 5 names that are associated with said term/name. This does not mean they're the only names to be thought of. Just the 1st 5, since they were the 1st 5 Dinobots. (And the only 5, unless I totally missed some in the more recent continuities. Did I?)
Also, is there a chance that either Ultra Magnus or Motormaster is in the new movie? I haven't heard anything regarding characters. I see that rusty old truck that everyone says is Optimus (I doubt it), and I remember that shiny new Freightliner Bay was all giggles over when production first started. Could those 2 trucks be the old and new alt modes for the same character, someone other than Optimus, perhaps Magnus or Motormaster? Just asking.

How can you tell from a 30 second trailer?

And, technically, the first three Dinobots were Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge. Swoop and Snarl were, rather forcefully, added a couple episodes later. Hasbro was even adding new Dinobots in G1.
I'm thinking the Freightliner is the one bearing resemblance to Megatron through the trailer.

Isn't it reasonable to think that when the term/name "Dinobots" is mentioned to a Transformers fan, the names Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Swoop and/or Snarl come to mind before any other?

So...the 1st 5 Dinobots.
Hmm...hadn't thought of that. That might actually be a good idea, though I really want to hear the explanation how he can go from a decapitated rusting hulk to a shiny new monster.

I'm looking at the first result from typing "define common sense" in Google, which is synonymous with the first definition you posted. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by reinforcing my definition.
As for the second definition, the fact is that the Dinobots' lineup has changed constantly.
I'm just saying, there were three Dinobots in the beginning rather than five.
He's probably become Galvatron as the toyline suggests, being revived the same way he always has.

Right. But then the other 2 were added a few episodes later, not in a different continuity. So they were the 1st 5. I mean, I have no problem with what you said, because you're not wrong. But neither am I.

I thought I had seen shots of a 2-pack of toys naming Optimus and Megatron from AOE. I know there's a Galvatron in the characters list for the new movie, but the packaging for the new toys definitely said Megatron. I guess maybe he goes through the transformation in the movie, rather than it being just alluded to after he already shows up as a shiny new Galvatron.
