I got his point, but the arguement here is then simply the desire for something classic opposed to something new. Why does something new have to be a revamp? Can't it be its own new character that isn't a "Dinobot"? I really don't care, but my point is that we don't have to act like the need to see the original team in full motion like we imagined as kids, when these new movie creatures could just be its own new idea without referencing any "Dinobots" with "Grimlock" as their team leader, as some great crime against forward thinking and a stop to anything new. They are not mutually exclusive. I'm all for new characters, but when you say Dinobots, usually people have a liking for the original team. Why do we need new Dinbots anyway? Is there only one way to attain something new, and that is to change what we already know? Can't we have new flying two headed Transformers with different names and part of a different team? Dragonites or some bs, I dunno.

Bulkhead was a very new creation, same with Airachnid as she didn't share that much with Blackarachnia, and the predacons weren't just 5 robots who looked different, named differently, and didn't combine, they were an entirely new species/faction. Hardly comparable to swapping out a team member (if it even is) with one with a second head and different name.

To make it clear, I'm not expecting anything much like the Dinobots we know already to be in this movie anyway.

Well, it's only Grimlock and Slug who are the familiar-named Dinobots here, as the full roster contains Grimlock, Slug, Strafe, Slash, and Scorn. So, the majority of the team is made up of new guys anyway.

As such, when I think "Dinobots," I think about a bunch of dinosaurs that transform into robots rather than the characters that were so poorly portrayed in their initial appearances anyway (save for Grimlock).

The toys don't count, they do whatever the hell random crap with the toys just to make them sell. The comics and toons and games set the standard (since these actually attempt to tell a story). Even if there wasn't much characterization, the team was always the same types of Dinos with the same names. To throw a sarcastic answer to someone who was wondering why this suddenly changed is pretty rude. That question doesn't indicate any lack of vision to see progression in the franchise.

Bay has another opportunity for great character development. But I would expect him to blow up that chance like he always has. Still want to see this movie for sure though.

Well, I'm not exactly sure if it would work, but Shockwave did crash in Siberia, which is fairly close to China (I know it's not that close, but it's on the same landmass.). Maybe Shockwave brought them, and they escaped during the crash and made it to China?
On another note, I've realized why Optimus riding Grimlock bothers me so much. Judging from any Grimlock's personality, would he ever let himself be used as anyone's mount?

But really, of course he'd let Wheelie ride, Wheelie's a BA! Prime doesn't hold a candle to that guy! (I'm joking of course, I don't want Wheelie-hate.)
Even with that, I'm still a bit worried the Dinobots will end up as simply giant robot mounts, because that Wheelie scene was mostly comical (Although awesome), where this doesn't appear so. I'm probably just picking hairs at this point, because I loved the rest of the trailer.

Unlikely. He's still got parts from his Peterbilt truck mode on him, the air horns on his shoulders being the most noticeable. That said, I'm not sure if that's dust or rust on him.

It is personal opinion. Hence the "I think" part of the sentence. Common sense and personal opinion aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. It is my personal opinion that when the term/name "Dinobots" is mentioned, the names Grimlock, Slag, Snarl, Sludge and Swoop would be the 1st 5 names that are associated with said term/name. This does not mean they're the only names to be thought of. Just the 1st 5, since they were the 1st 5 Dinobots. (And the only 5, unless I totally missed some in the more recent continuities. Did I?)

Also, is there a chance that either Ultra Magnus or Motormaster is in the new movie? I haven't heard anything regarding characters. I see that rusty old truck that everyone says is Optimus (I doubt it), and I remember that shiny new Freightliner Bay was all giggles over when production first started. Could those 2 trucks be the old and new alt modes for the same character, someone other than Optimus, perhaps Magnus or Motormaster? Just asking.

We had a fairly reliable rumour that the silver/blue cab is Ultra Magnus, but nothing more than that.

OOOOH!!!! What if, because of the events of DOTM, with Optimus losing his best friend (Ironhide), allowing a city to be destroyed, having to kill his former brother and mentor, Optimus goes into depression and just sits around for 4 years, rusting, thinking about how he let his emotions get the better of him. I think that would be awesome. I doubt that's the case, though.

The silver guy is the guy in the posters which is cyclonus. He is the silver Lamborghini. Mr. Gunface is Lockdown. I didn't see Optimus' old form. He looks more like sentinel because ratchet likely cannibalized Sentinel Prime's parts to fix up ole Optimus and get him in fighting shape. That is why he has Sentinel's Sword and Shield. Images of megatron have been spotted but I doubt he will be a big part of the film. His corpse may show up at the Chinese factory and be rebuilt by humans into Galvatron and Unicron may pop up in the end but again... not the main plot points. Those would only set up the sequel.

I used Google as well. And I am just supporting what I was saying. It's not unreasonable to think of Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Snarl and/or Swoop before any other characters when the term/name "Dinobots" is heard, because they were the original Dinobots.

I thought I had seen shots of a 2-pack of toys naming Optimus and Megatron from AOE. I know there's a Galvatron in the characters list for the new movie, but the packaging for the new toys definitely said Megatron. I guess maybe he goes through the transformation in the movie, rather than it being just alluded to after he already shows up as a shiny new Galvatron.

Right. But then the other 2 were added a few episodes later, not in a different continuity. So they were the 1st 5. I mean, I have no problem with what you said, because you're not wrong. But neither am I.

No, you're not wrong. They are the first five. I was just relating it to the point that, continuity aside, Hasbro has added "new" Dinobots to the roster before. Swoop & Snarl were the first of their kind, even though it only took them two or three episodes to join.

He's probably become Galvatron as the toyline suggests, being revived the same way he always has.

I thought I had seen shots of a 2-pack of toys naming Optimus and Megatron from AOE. I know there's a Galvatron in the characters list for the new movie, but the packaging for the new toys definitely said Megatron. I guess maybe he goes through the transformation in the movie, rather than it being just alluded to after he already shows up as a shiny new Galvatron.

I guess we'll have to watch the movie to see what happens in terms of plotline. That's what I observed based on the headsculpt and color scheme in relation to the vehicle. I could be completely wrong, of course.
