The robot modes were really nothing special, in fact, when you think about it, they and CW figures have something in common. Pretenders all had a similar transformation much like CW figures. While they don't part share like CW does, the designers followed a similar layout with each figure, much like CW did.
The shells is where the fun is at. Might not have much in the way of articulation, but damn some look good.

Yep, they are on a geared mechanism that makes them pump in and out while you roll the car along. kinda like first half of the 20th century naval guns style (Will comes swooping in for the inappropriate comment in 3..2..)
