Wow. What a cliffhanger. I won't spoil much, but the ending of the new episode was quite a suprise.

Tonight's episode was great, much better than the last few this series.

Felt like a real classic Dalek story. Again, the special effects were top notch, well agpart from that scene involving Dalek Sek having his din dins.

So the abandoned Dalek experiment glob in the sewers that The Doctor found and had to run a DNA analysis on, did anyone else think Rutan from The Horror of Fang Rock?

Mutant thing?

Daleks were mutated to begin with. Humanoid Kaleds that Davros mutated to their squid forms and removed all traces of humanity to create Daleks.

It does make sense for them to continue to evolve, but I half suspect this evolution will result in the end of Sek.

And since when did the other three members of the Cult survive? :?

As leader, Sek probably time shifted the entire cult with him.

Best Dalek ep since the ep 'Dalek'. When that one was commenting on humanity while looking out the window, I felt for him. I also like the way the other cult members where appalled at Sek's plan. I like this cult, they give Daleks personalities while not turning them into suicidal mugs. Best ep of the current series imo. Although does this mean the end of the iconic Dalek shells? :???:
Guess time will tell.

I doubt it.

I some how suspect it was Sek they were yelling "EXTERMINATE" at in next week's preview.

Plus, there is this from SciFi.com

Daleks Voted Scariest Who Villains

The Daleks have been voted the scariest villain in the Doctor Who universe in survey of 21,000 fans, the BBC reported. The news comes as the Doctor's old enemies are about to return in the third season of the latest incarnation of the long-running BBC series. The Daleks will feature in a two-part story set in 1930s New York, featuring David Tennant as the Doctor and Freema Agyeman as his new assistant, Martha Jones.

"Every time the Daleks return, we make them bigger and better than ever before, and this time, their plan is the most audacious Dalek scheme yet," said Russell T Davies, creator and executive producer of the series.

The Daleks were created by Terry Nation and first appeared on screen in 1963. Nick Briggs will once again provide the voice for the Daleks, whose familiar battle cry "exterminate!" has become an iconic part of the series.

A full list of the top 10 villains follows.

1. The Daleks
2. The Empty Child Zombies
3. The Beast
4. The Cybermen
5. The Clockwork Droids
6. The Ood
7. The Empress of Racnoss
8. The Werewolf
9. The Autons/Nestenes
10. Chloe's Dad

Obviously based on the new series. No Sontarons? No Master? Chloe's bloody dad and empty child zombies???

Okay, The Ood and the Clockwork Droids maybe because they were pretty bloody cool, but the Werewolf?

And where was Ethan and his band? They were pretty bloody scary! :P

Since RTD installed a Deus ex machina in the Daleks allowing him to abuse them however he wanted. I gotta tell ya, from their last few appearances, Terry Nation must be rolling over in his grave.

Still, I managed to find a clip of the final minutes of the last ep, and I must admit that RTD salvaged their reputations. Slightly.

And this is a two part episode, so there's plenty of time for it to all go wrong.

Speaking of things going wrong, here's a bit of news from Outpost Gallifrey:

The British Sunday tabloid newspaper the News of the World is running a report this morning claiming that Australian actress and pop star Kylie Minogue has been cast in the 2007 Doctor Who Christmas special. Minogue, best known internationally for a string of chart hits including "I Should Be So Lucky" and "Can't Get You Out of My Head", began her career as an actress in the popular soap opera Neighbours in the late 1980s. She has also appeared in films such as Street Fighter (1994) and Moulin Rouge (2001).

Says the News of the World's report:

"A BBC insider said: 'Kylie jumped at the chance to be in the show and is really looking forward to acting again. She is flattered to be asked to be in such a classic TV show.

'The Doctor Who team are delighted they've got someone as sexy and high profile as Kylie to ensure they win the annual ratings battle with ITV'."

The report also claims that Minogue was persuaded to take the role by her friend and stylist Will Baker, a Doctor Who fan who has included several sets and costumes inspired by the programme in her stage tour in recent years. The paper also claims that she will appear in the programme as a Cyberwoman, but this is not supported in any of their "insider" quotes.

The paper adds:

"The show spokesman added: 'Russell [T Davies] is just putting the finishing touches to the episode and it will be TV dynamite.' Russell, who has met Kylie to discuss the part, said: 'I imagined she'd be booked up for the next two years'."

The closest thing I have to a reason to hate her is her "performance" in "Street Fighter". And even there, the fact that she fills out a blue bodysuit rather nicely makes that decision questionable.

With regard to "Who", however, I'll adopt a "wait-and-see" approach. It seems like the right thing to do.

Anyone else feeling sorry for the Daleks or is it just me. Loved the way they played the Daleks characters in the latest episode, especially when they we talking about their races while overlooking the city.

Dalek Sek seems desperate to ensure the survival of his kind, although I'm unsure why mutating the last four Daleks will guarantee their survival. Unless ofc of the remaining Daleks takes over a women's body and they start to shag …. that is a nasty nasty thought

On the flip side with the Daleks mutated and out of their shells they won't be able to hide behind their technology, meaning a simple bullet to the head will be the end of them. That was the main point to the Daleks from past to present, their technology meant they were almost impossible to kill.

Loved the episode and can't wait for next weeks. I'm not sure what the plates attached to the roof are for, makes me think they are trying to reopen the rift to release the trapped Daleks. I get the strong feeling though Dalek Sek better watch his back because I think his boys are about to stick a knife in it next week.

A few questions I'm curious about. It was never really explained how they managed to shift out while all the other Daleks got sucked into the void. What's even more confusing is the fact they managed to travel back in time, I missed the first 10 minutes of the episode so I guess I could have missed the explanation to that.

One other thing, the Daleks are super intelligent and brilliant geneticists fair enough, but why do they always seem to try and hide on earth to rebuild and take over. The universe is a massive place so why not hide in some random corner of the galaxy hidden and rebuild. The emperor seemed to do a good job of it.

Last but not least, the Dr has a time machine so why doesn't he go back to the time wars and do something about saving his people. For that fact why not go back and bitch slap Davros

I seem to only recall Sek doing a "emergency temporal shift" (maybe an ability only built into the Cult Daleks), I thought the other three had already been sucked into the void, but apparently they got away when the camera was on them.

And The Daleks acquired time travel technology a long time ago. It's why the war between The Daleks and The Time Lords was so devestating it resulted in the destruction of both species.

Humans may be the closest genetic relative to Kaleds maybe?

Even though Gallifrey and The Time Lords don't exist, The Doctor cannot break one of the cardinal rules. That being, he can't go back and alter his own past.

Now as far as the whole Daleks giving up their shells thing. You really need to go back and look at the history of The Daleks.

Davros created them because he believed they were the ultimate evolutionary step for the Kaled people. He had this grand vision for his Dalek empire.

But Davros isn't around and most of the Daleks dismissed his beliefs and decided to follow their own path.

They've obviously come to the conclusion that their shells are limited. Mobility isn't so great, they're easily blinded (pop a hat over the eye piece) and if their shell is compromised, the Dalek mutant inside is left vulnerable.

Evolve (back) into a bi-ped, they gain mobility and eye sight (though i'm not sure how good that uni-eye will be). We also don't know what sort of strength they'll have and for all we know they could have a hide thicker than a Sontaron!

So to me, it is a logical step in the evolution of the Dalek race, but like WH said and I said before, I somehow suspect Sek is going to be on the receiving end of a "EXTERMINATION" screech and he'll be the first and only bi-ped Dalek.

As I understand it the daleks tried a similar stunt once before in the story The Evil of the Daleks, where they tried to extract the "Human Factor" and insert it into Daleks, since the Daleks had been defeated by humans. That failed and the child-like humanised Daleks had to be exterminated.

Also didn't Davros/Emperor Dalek try and evolve the daleks in one of their final stories with the 7th doctor? I forget the name of the episode but the modified daleks (white shells) were having a civil war with the origonal daleks (grey shells).

Based on that precident I'd say that Sek is going to be toast.

I don't think they made reference of the difference between the white shells and the grey shells, the whites were suppose to be simply an evolved version and we had to accept that. The only substantial difference is the whites were programmed to obey Davros/Emperor.

The civil war happened because the greys had already broken away from Davros' control and had no desire to be ruled by him or an Emperor or any one being, plus the whites were out to wipe them out for being weak.

It was also the last Dalek stories in the old series wasn't it?

One of my favourite stories along with Genesis of the Daleks from the Tom Baker era. (If only he'd carried out the wishes of The Time Lords and destroyed The Daleks before they could have been created ....)
