Just grab a really long and really colourful scarf and wear that. If anyone complains, tell them that this is what a real Doctor wears.

My Dad is convinced that Tom Baker will only be the Doctor as far as he's concerned.
Unfortunately, he lives in a house of rabid Doctor Who fans who avidly watch the new stuff.
I'm looking forward to the new season. It seems like this is going to be the best one yet. The promo trailers I've seen are about as freaky as the Blink episode which still stand as my favorite show.

One of my friends in this group has a pretty-darn-accurate 4th Doctor scarf that he has someone knit from a pattern at least 20 years ago. Everything pales in comparison to that piece of sweet garb.

Really? They had to open season 6 with a 2 parter? I have to wait another week.
Anyways, great opening so far. Just wish they didn't make it a 2 parter.

awww poor diddums doesn't like hour long two parters.
Back in the old days they were generally 1/2 hour episodes so you had four parts.
And they were weekly.
So it took a month to get through a story.
(Even longer for Trial of a Time Lord ... but that's purely for eye gouging reasons).
Damn New-Whovians.

Moffat ha stated that he was doing a 2 parter opening and splitting the season in two to shake things up.
Not a bad episode, but nothing great at least so far, very glad to see the dedication to Lis at the beginning.
The casting for Nixon seems a bit off, but I'll let it slide for getting Mark Sheppard and his Dad in for Castor. I hope that character is planned to stick around longer than these episodes.

Damn New-Whovians.
By the time we got them in the states, they ran the whole season as one episode. Many was a time that I missed the end of an "episode" because my weak 12-year-old self fell asleep at midnight.

To be honest, considering it happened on Tuesday, and I would have imagined the network had gotten the episode earlier, I half expected not to see it, simply because I wouldn't have expected them to be able to send off a new version by yesterday.

Interesting twist at the end.
Fairly decent story, did the job of setting up the season well.
But really, "Day of the Moon" and it features Armstrong's first steps on the moon? I think there's a movie coming out that features Armstrong's first steps on the moon ... what was it called? Oh yeah, "Dark of the Moon".
And next week ... Pirates? Really? With "On Stranger Tides" coming out soon as well?

bahahaha ... you are not alone on that Editor.
Although he already does have a daughter. Maybe it is Jenny?
I've watched the first episode three times now (downloaded, aired here Saturday night, repeated Sunday night) and the more I pick up, the more they make it look like River = Amy. But they've also already screwed the time line up a bit.

Well, if the time child is Amy+Rory, it could be River. I don't think the Doctor had slept with Amy. That would be too weird. I wasn't really okay with Rose. If River can regenerate, will we see her portrayed by a different actress?
Here's a thought: what if it was an animated pilot-less suit that killed the doctor?

I've read that theory elsewhere, but I just don't see it at all.
And the ending threw me for a loop. I'm not sure what's coming next at all, and I like that quite a bit!

AS far as River regenerating, that seems unlikely if only for:
a) The Doctor has already stated the Time-Lord ability to sense other members of his race, and River has never set that one off.
b) We have already seen River's physical death back in the Library, therefore if she had the ability to regenerate it would be into "alex kingston" from another actor. Concidering the basis the character has been based on so far, I think that something that would have given us a nod of that sort would all ready have come into play.

I'm still thinking it's Jenny, but i've been wrong about things before...surprisingly.

That was perhaps the best Matt Smith episode to date.
My one disappointment, I was hoping for a Classic old control room, not Tennant's. But I guess for story purposes it didn't work.
But definitely a great episode.

It was a really weird episode, but I agree. Matt's best episode yet.
Bad thing about this episode; the slashfic that shall spawn from it.

What "slashfic" exactly would be spawned because of this episode that any other episode wouldn't spawn?

Point is point. Especially seeing this isn't even the first use of the TARDIS as a character. IDW ran a series 2 years back where the TARDIS was used as the Doctors companion of all companions who is always there for him.

Re: The Dr Who (and spin-offs) Thread
It was amazing!
I'm so glad we got a new script writer for the new series as it's so much more what the original series used to be. Less social drama and more scifi horror.
Making use of the TARDIS as an actual walking and talking character was an amazing idea.
It was a little sad to see the last echos of the Doctors race though. For a moment I thought they we're going to bring in at least one more timelord if only for a bit before they killed them off.

If she did it would be a complete cop-out. That macguffin has already been used 3 times (The Doctor/John Smith, The Master/Professor Yana, The Doctor?/Jackson Lake) and would simply cheapen her character.
