The End is Nigh: Stop Internet Piracy Act
The End is Nigh: Stop Internet Piracy Act

It seems the government is a bunch of half-brained Luddites who would rather curtail civil liberties instead of finding a reasonable solution. Their latest attempt at stopping online piracy is the aptly named "Stop Online Piracy Act." Essentially this would cause the government to block sites with "infringing links" or other content that would otherwise be Fair Use under the DMCA from viewing by anyone in the United States.
If that sounds awfully familiar, then you probably know China, Iran, and Sybia do the exact same thing.
Chances are, it'll die. Obama is probably tech savvy enough to know to veto this, and even if he doesn't the Supreme Court has to realize this is a horrible violation of the first amendment.

Oh, I forgot the worst part. Apparently breaking any part of this law comes with a felony and a 5-year sentence. So, you upload one too many videos of yourself doing a cover of a song on Youtube, you are a felon. You know it's bad when they make me agree with something Justin Bieber said.

If this law gets passed, YouTube will be shut down.
I don't want that.

Looks like you don't know what Communism is.
In Communism there is no intellectual property or Copyright and you can do what ever the hell you want with it.
This law would be one step closer to a corporate police state.

Yeah, but communism sounds scarier, doesn't it? In fact, Youtube is a lot closer to communism ideal then shutting it down is.

I believe the word is Fascism.
At first reading I thought you were refering to this Shadowman: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=citzRjwk-sQ
But upon re-reading your first post, I realise it is different (though not entirely). Honestly all it is essentially is Facism, governments trying to control the populus AND without the public's consent. Since when were politicians voted in based on how much they could annoy the public? Also, have they not considered someone or something will inevitably design a program to get around their block? It really ****s me off how out of touch/power crazed some politicians can be.

I'm freaking 13, dude! All I know about Communism is that the government controls everything.

This is true, but think of it like this: 'Commun'ism as in 'commun'ity, ie sharing between people/within the country. Adding what you know about communism, we get the government sharing everything equally between everyone.
It's kind of a generalisation of the premise. Don't be fooled though, it sounds like a great idea when I word it's premise like that, but it is not like that at all in actually. Democracy (or Capitalism in this case) is the way to go.

I've seen the infographic on the matter and quite frankly all I have to say is this:
It doesn't tell me what the law exactly says!
To me, this is nothing more than a repeat of what people do best: sow fear and reap panic (especially with the comparison with the "scary", even "evil" states of Iran, Syria and China). While I'm against piracy, I also recognise the fact the internet is far too big to be restrained and controlled like a wild animal. Attempts are already being made to take copyright infringing sites off the air, with The Pirate Bay being a good example. That's good enough for me for now, since that already falls under international copyright protection. That and education on what's OK to do (Try Before You Buy anyone?
On the side, Syria, Iran and China use the censorship for a whole different purpose: to prevent the populace from uprising under the guise of "protecting traditional values". So the comparison is rendered moot.

It would make unauthorized streaming (I.e. uploading to youtube anything you don't own) a felony with a 5-year sentence. So, no, nothing about this is right. Nothing would be Fair Use anymore, and YouTube, for instance, would basically be destroyed.

You're 13, that doesn't give you a reason to be rude.
Secondly, you might want to do a little research on places you plan to move to if you're going to move over internet restrictions.

Also I'd imagine Hasbro would probably intervene if Paramount gets that stupid idea.

Cuba is communist. I.e, the government controls everything. If the government here starts controlling the internet, it would be pretty similar to Communist.

Clearly you don't know anything about communism outside of the government control aspect, and even then, just the basics. And also nothing about Cuba itself, which is a total craphole compared to the US.
