I'm thoroughly surprised/disappointed that nobody has already posted a topic about the final Harry Potter film. Shame on you all!

The movie was generally released last Thursday and surely some of you must have seen it. I myself am going to see it this Friday in order to avoid the crushing queues and annoying children who were bound to ruin my viewing experience on opening weekend.

But I thought those who did brave the Oncoming Storm of adolescent spit and obnoxious heckling at the cinema may like to share their thoughts on the movie.

Did it live up to expectations?

Did it deviate too far away from the source material? Or did it even stay too close!?

Thoughts, thoughts, thoughts! They're the opium of the people!

Because we're on a forum populated by individuals who are blinded by their own faith to another franchise.

That being said, easily movie of the year. There were a few deviations from the book but compared to the previous movies, very little was changed or cut out.

I was lucky that I didn't have problems with annoying kids, went during the day when they were all in school, so the crowd was nice and thinned out.

It's over now, funny to say that, but it's over.

It's by far the best of the 7/8 (depends on how you look at it) Harry Potter movies. It's dead accurate to the book. I actually got a little teary at a certain scene involving Snape and the Pensive.

Take that last sentence with a grain of salt since I cried for an hour after Toy Story 3.

Funny that you mention Toy Story 3... Just watched for the first time last night, and I got a little teary-eyed, myself.

As far as the movie goes, I enjoyed it. Wasn't too many dry eyes in that room after the movie was over, but I held my own. To me, it was worth seeing just so I could see the kick ass teaser for The Dark Knight Rises..........I SO can't wait for that one!!!!

We got the Dark Knight trailer too.

I thought the last Harry Potter was great, and I thought it was really well done. So far, it is my favorite movie this summer. Even though I am a TF fan, The Deathly Hallows was just far and away a better movie in every way. Haven't seen Thor or Green Lantern, but I doubt they match Harry Potter. I was really happy with it when I walked out of the theatre.

I've been irritated with all the movies except the first 2. Walking out of the theater annoyed with this one would not phase me at this point.

So far, there hasn't been enough consistency in movies 5-7 to give me any hopes for the 8th movie.

By consistency, I'm referring to certain little details that while minute at first, are actually big points later on.

Movie 6 has a couple flaws that lead to movie 7 having a lot of issues and one thing in the 5th movie was removed from it so it makes several scenes in the 7th movie confusing.

Rowling is a master of taking insignificant things and making them important later on.

Yeah, I've always been disappointed by the film's lack of 'insignificant yet important' moments too. The most irksome of which was Peter Pettigrew's survival in the Deathly Hallows Part 1; I know that a character throttling himself to death is a little bit much for what is essentially a movie aimed at teenagers, but I still expected a little bit more than for him to be simply knocked out. Does Peter make an appearance in Part Two?

Yep. Peter Pettigrew not getting knocked off kinda annoyed me.

And don't forget the mirror Sirius gave Harry in book 5 that ended up getting broken. That was ignored in the movies until the 7th and from a movie standpoint, it didn't make sense on how he got the mirror unless you read the book.

Also in the 6th movie Slughorn talks about wishing he had the complete set for the Black family. Again, that doesn't make sense. It does make sense in the book where he says he was the former head of Slytherin and had most of the Black family under his care.

The big one for me also is the conversation Dumbledore had with Harry about Horcruxes in the book. By the end of book 6, Harry had a rough idea of what he needed find. He just didn't know where to look just yet. In the movie, that conversation was completely ignored so it felt more like Harry and his friends were just wandering around aimlessly looking for them.

It's stuff like that that drives me nuts because they help with the flow of the movies.

I don't mind that certain details are lost, but there are certain important details that need to be done to help consistency.

Toy Story 3's definitely the best American animated movie ever.

I think the movie's playing it like Harry can recognize the horcruxes because he is one. He knew the locket was a horcrux when he saw it and it'll probably be the same with the others. I'm guessing, I haven't seen the movie yet.

I'm not a huge Potter fan, but I have enjoyed most of the films. In my opinion, they could have removed a lot of the slow parts in Part 1 and had just one longer film for Deathly Hallows. I knew when I first watched Chamber of Secrets that it was going to be that Harry had a part of Voldemort in him; since that has been done in many things that I watch like animes. It was a very good film and I enjoyed the backstory involving Snape. My wife and I agree that, if the ending means future books/movies, we aren't very interested in them.

Ok, so i'm being dragged to see this this coming weekend. My nephew's a poter fan and its his birthday. Personally, i've never, and i mean never have seen nor understood the apeal of these films and have 0 desire of seeing this or any other movies. (not saying others can't/don't, just not my cup of tea). My question is am i going to get lost without seeing the rest of the movies? How long is this thing? Should i just take some sleeping pills a half hour before? :lol:

Again, I'm not a huge fan, but I have seen all of the films. It was about two hours and, in my opinion, there wasn't a lot in it that would be confusing to someone like yourself that hasn't seen any of the others. There was plenty of action and thrill to it and anything that needs to be really known from the previous films are explained in an easy and relevant manner.

Something tells me it's gonna end on down note, especially since Nolan claims it to be the last. And if he wants it to be, he'll probably end it all crazy so that someone will have to reboot it to do another movie. Of course Batman will have the **** beat out of him at some point......He's going against Bane! And to anyone who only knows Bane from Batman and Robin movie (ICK), totally throw that one away!!!

Whoever said it was spot on to the book, that's a farce. The ending battle did not play like that. It was much more emotional in the book.. Everyone did not know Harry was alive until he faced Voldemort. Also I like how not once did they acknowledge that Harry's Invisible Cloak was one of the Deathly Hallows, and that by the end of it, he was the 'master of all 3'. But whatever, it was okay, a bit too much cheese, but meh, it was way over-hyped to begin with.

I figured that. I got a friend at work who loves the books and has told me how the movies have compared to the books. He hasn't seen this one yet and was asking me certain questions, some of which I really couldn't answer since I have not read the books. But when I told of the very end, he said that's how the book ended and I think he was over all happy for that. Can't say I'm surprised. There really hasn't been too many exact crossovers from books, graphic novels, comics, etc. to movies. I think The Watchmen was the closest I have seen.......

I went to see it on Monday and I have to say they did very well, a few twists to the original story but nothing on the scale of the horrible Percy Jackson movie

PS I'm really glad they had the nineteen years later sequence

I went to see it last night and thought that it was amazing. Burn was right, it's miles better than DOTM no question. The best aspect of the two Deathly Hallows movies is that it felt more like a film based on a book, rather than a book translated to film. What scenes they added, edited or missed out were done so for creatively sound reasons to make a better film. I can't praise the movie enough!

Spoiler alert.

The only thing that I was slightly disappointed with them missing out was the death of Fred Weasley, somewhat disappointed that you didn't see his death at the hands of Rookwood. Also, Snape's death was more than a little brutal wasn't it for a 12a? Bloody brilliant though!

It's the sort of movie where you can't pick one specific part that you really enjoyed, for me at least. I had a number of them.

Magonical (sp) -vs- Snape.
Snape redeeming himself.
Neville standing up to Voldemort then whipping out the sword.
Neville taunting the Snatchers.
Neville running from the Snatchers but taking a heap of them out.
Neville killing Nagini.

I'm guessing that Rowling gave Neville such awesomeness in Deathly Hallows because of the fan theory that some people had early in the series that he would be the true chosen one and Harry Potter was used by Dumbledore and Snape simply to conceal the truth from Voldemort.

That was the overly-artistic one where everyone wore multicolored suits with glitter, right?

I remember there was an episode of one of the animated shows where Batman got beaten so hard, he broke half of the bones in his body and was (should have been, anyway) covered in blood. If the movie's anything like that, It would be intense!

Back on topic. Last night I re-watched Deathly Hallows Part 1, and I realized something. We never get to see Peter Pettigrew die. I think someone already mentioned that, but I'm not really sure.

I think Part 2 could have easily been rated R, purely for the fact that Snape's death scene was as brutal as hell. The only reason it's PG-13 is because the franchise/series is so popular.
