Because Disney.

ZeroWolf wrote:Actually Disney wouldn't have won anyway even if it had decided to film the Thrawn trilogy, to get each book into one movie would have required cuts and that would have upset fans (look at the Lord if the Rings fans mourning Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights). Heck even if they did the perfect adaption, you'd have a set of fans complaining about it being an adaption! Just like you had fans who wanted this new trilogy to be what Lucas wanted (which was vastly different than the books to boot)
I fully agree with Lucasfilm shifting the whole lot into legends as no one really loses, that whole lot is still readily available, while the new timeline has a whole lot of new pasture to fill out, to allow new ideas...That they then gave that new ground to Abrams is a different matter entirely but someone clearly thought he style was a good fit...

It isn't perfect adaptations that are wanted, its something along the lines of the Marvel cinematic universe. They do their own thing, but follow and pay respect to what came before. A series that is well thought out, coordinated, and planned. With plenty of time for character development.
I don't mind the story that Star Wars is trying to tell, I just want them to do it much better.
But thats me, and my hangup.
I don't think to many people would have been upset if they had rebooted the EU, done their own thing, but kept characters like the Solo kids. as it is, it just feels like a waste.ZeroWolf wrote:Ironhidensh wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:Actually Disney wouldn't have won anyway even if it had decided to film the Thrawn trilogy, to get each book into one movie would have required cuts and that would have upset fans (look at the Lord if the Rings fans mourning Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights). That's fair to say. My post was more about explaining why they wanted to jettison the old EU.

Well, to be fair, we're discussing it with the benefit of hindsight. I think Lucas thought he did the best he could with what *I think* are the 2 main objectives for the story: finish the arc for Anakin and set up the original trilogy in the overall story. Had he not had to mind episodes 4-6, I think episode 3 would have been a bit different.Blastback wrote:D-Maximal_Primal wrote:That fight scene is really good, Revenge of the Sith scratched so many itches for me, I love that movie
Honestly the most frustrating part of that film is that it comes so close to the mark of being the prequel I wanted, and just misses. (mainly because of Lucas's thing for wooden dialogue.) I really like the movie, but it always felt like it was just on the cusp of being even better.
