Eh.. Forced creativity can lead to interesting things (like the movie designs) but it also can get "meh". Especially when you have the ugly combo of forced creativity and "No fun allowed".-Kanrabat- wrote:ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:There were separate plans for Megatron. He had his own toy in the works, a Cadillac XLR, but then the line got shelved indefinitely in 2006.
A bit of a shame though. I loved that line despite the occasional stinker.
Also, Alternators was all about "normal" road vehicles, meaning cars, Jeeps, and pick-ups as the biggest. Making a genuine truck even more of a "never make" Transformers!
I imagine the rest of the combaticons could have been made, but they would have to be reimagined as standard road vehicles. This make the line more interesting to me because it force creativity.
By "original content" do you mean Unicron Trilogy molds and select CHUG molds getting redecoed as oversize versions Micromasters and occasional as other characters, with new heads if they're lucky?-Kanrabat- wrote:Once the "pseudo budget MP" mentality of the current Generations lines blow over, I wonder if we will go back to classic CHUG and see some true original content?
I do remember Classic CHUG, as it happens. Classic CHUG also had a lot of what I said: Unicron Trilogy redecoes and redecoes of some of its own molds, as nominal updates of Micromasters and other characters, with new heads if they were lucky. Here, enjoy the parade:-Kanrabat- wrote:No no no no. You got it all wrong. It's not about "Cybertron repaints at all. CHUG is not the 2007 Movie line.
If you remember classic CHUG, most had their relatively classic robot designs, but many had new original vehicles.
I don't want more of it, at least not a lot more of it (in CHUG, at any rate; New series' are another matter, that's what they're for). I'm kinda annoyed at a lot of what we got of it, because A. I was interested in those characters because of the G1 cartoon, so having these less-representative or non-representative versions - this applies to both the reimaginings and some of the redecoes - was not exactly appealing (a major reason I mostly collected G1 instead of CHUG up until coming across Titans Return Hot Rod in a store) and B. I found a lot of the modernized altmodes aesthetically inferior to the classic ones. I did develop a tolerance for that much (in some cases) after getting into TR since that increased my desire for versions in a modern scale.-Kanrabat- wrote:Some were combiners that no longer combined but with an original vehicle like that amazing Universe Onslaught. Other were minibots supersized to ultra class (modern leader) with an updated vehicle mode. Some had space vehicles or were just tools in G1 but they got Earth vehicle modes in Classics and old Generations. Those old bot's were then reinvented completely.
So I want more of that.
I think a lot of modern cars look meh compared to the ones modeled by the G1 cast, so I wouldn't be excited for that in CHUG at all.-Kanrabat- wrote:But this time, we could go a step further. What if the Transformers woke up in 1919 instead of 1984? They would had to take forms of the time, with the vehicles that go with it and the bots would be redesigned to fit.
ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:There is that. I've been okay with most of the re-dos on the grounds of "Try until you get it right". But as characters hit that point, it would be nice for others to get a turn. And if there is a perceived demand for the characters who have already been done right, HasTak can just do a bloody rerelease instead of wasting resources remaking them.
ZeroWolf wrote:I don't think the bleed over was the intent, as I think Astrotrain was always meant for Earthrise, and was instead brought forward for the additional Siege wave, same as Rung. Though we'll see if its true or not if the same thing happens with part 3

Only if they include a different head to do a Prowlastator.

And make a new mold for Hook to serve as a leg.
... what? Go long or go home.
What I miss in current robot toy lines is the Brave-style leader combinations, represented in TF by God Ginrai, Victory Saber and God Fire Convoy. I wouldn't mind seeing that return, especially with some proper character development for the one being pulled apart for the add-ons.
-Kanrabat- wrote:Well, if HasTak keep it up with the G1 pandering, I want them to FULLY COMMIT.
I want proper modernized Pretenders and bring on the weird and obscure characters that were mostly ignored. They did a few already but it's not enough. I'm just tired of the classic cast being made over and over and over.
What about Sonic Wing Mode? Or does Wing Saber being Ultra-class disqualify him?JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:Tigerhawk7109 wrote:Scoop redeco of UW Scrapper so we can have Starscream's Devastator. 'Nuff said.

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Well, technically Energon Optimus got an update, in the form of the Optimus Maximus/Convoy Grand Prime combo... Not much of one, and it was especially half-assed on the Hasbro end.
My worry is that even a more focused Generations update of Energon Optimus and Wing Saber would end up a downgrade. Yes, even with the faults of the originals...

Yes. That is God Fire Convoy, AKA Omega Prime. AKA the reason Armada Megatron has restricted leg articulation.Tigerhawk7109 wrote:JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:Tigerhawk7109 wrote:Scoop redeco of UW Scrapper so we can have Starscream's Devastator. 'Nuff said.

Heck yes to everything. Leg Hook, Prowlvastator head, and a new Victory Saber. God Fire Convoy is RID'01 Optimus and Magnus, right?
Well, Titans are too costly to produce for Fun Pub.Nemesis Primal wrote:Tigerhawk7109 wrote:Scoop redeco of UW Scrapper so we can have Starscream's Devastator. 'Nuff said.
I mean, that alternate head exists, along with other Autobot counterparts of the whole combiner team, but neither Hasbro nor Fun Pub thought it profitable to use it, so...
