Added the Requiem blaster as well
Someone pointed me to a 3D-printed set of semi-functional (the wheel turns and the spikes can pop up, but there's no crank for the gun or spring functionality for the spikes) reproduction Cyber Key weapons for the Megs mold that also includes the fins. Want the link?D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Seeing your Megatron reminds me that mine is only a small rear fin away from actually being complete. I got the key, it came with the missiles, and I found 1 fin. I just need that 1 last part

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Yeah, it's pretty damn neat (and IMO beats the pants off BB Soundwave as far as looking alien-yet-G1 goes). I still need to get one myself.
Congrats on getting him, Whifflefire!
Emerje wrote:I have both Cybertron Soundwave and Universe Blaster, they're good looking figures but I've never really thought of it as being much fun to play with. The wings are one solid piece across and get in the way of the arm kibble which is big and hard to maneuver on both arms really limiting movement. The legs are skinny and him being so top heavy they aren't the greatest for balance. In bomber mode it's a little hard to get everything aligned just right to sandwich everything together.
This picture illustrates all my issues with him nicely. The arm kibble has to be tucked behind the rigid wings to point them down and the legs have to be spread far to get a solid stance for display.
Honestly, I bought him new at the time and wasn't that impressed then while handling a lot of Cybertron figures. Obviously he wasn't bad enough to make me not buy Blaster and I'd still like to get Soundblaster someday, but I feel like he's taken on this mythic status as some amazing toy when to me he's always just been a cool looking figure that's annoying to play with.
At least if they ever did a new one he'd have ankle tilts and they'd be able to do something more interesting with the kibble.

As for the rosy view... Maybe some of it stems from people who were screwed by Warner yoinking Cybertron back to cable (and who thus lost track of it) not discovering him til later.
EDIT: Some Cybertron Optimus pics from the Christmas trip:
I love this mode so much.

How is that mold? Whilst obviously he's bereft of chrome (booooo) this also means he won't be shedding it like shiny dandruff, and I honestly love the colours. Also, Minicon ports! Yay!

Never cared for the colors (preferred the original purple and proposed Fractyl and comic Ravenus), but yeah, it's a good mold. I like his lanky body, especially how it looks nothing like the other TM molds, has great articulation, and he holds his weapons well thanks to pegs in his palms. Beast mode is convincing enough, though his legs don't really fit underneath quite right and his "vehicle" mode is just exposing rockets in his butt, but overall it's a great figure.

At the risk of straying off topic, I must ask this question. How is it that a single basic laser blast can wake up an ancient Transformer god after bouncing off a Transformer's armor, even if it's Grimlock? Was Furman saying Grimlock is tougher than Primus? Or is Octopunch's blaster just that powerful?ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Yes, yes it did. Painfully. In a manner that spoilt his plan to avoid drawing Unicron's attention. So I imagine he'd be a liiiittle annoyed with the pair of them.

So, having at long last gotten my hands on Jetfire, I finally fully appreciate what people mean about him being back-heavy. But it's not that hard to stand him, in my opinion, and he's a very cool figure all told. We need more cargo jet (and large-body jet in general) Transformers.
