TIME listed all-time 100 greatest toys
TIME magazine has listed all-time 100 greatest toys since 1923. Our favorite Transformers is listed there as well.

(I still have that Snoopy Sno Cone machine at home, it made my arm so tired every time I used it)

Heh, you beat me to it.
Here is the link for the TF specific entry. It contains a brief description of the original release and a link to a DOTM trailer. I cannot view the trailer from my current location, and so cannot comment on its contents.

Everyone's favorite alien robots have made their way onto Time Magazine's list of 100 all time greatest toys! To view the Transformers entry click here.

It wasn't tough to be excited about Transformers as a kid in the 1980s. Magical alien machines that could be reassembled to assume the identities of everyday automobiles, they were adapted by Hasbro from a pair of Japanese toys from Takara: the Diaclones and the New Microman. With a slight redesign and a new story line, Transformers hit the American shores in 1984.

Thanks for posting this, El Duque! Interesting article. Might have to read through it all next week. There are some questionable items on that list that almost seem to have "corporate sponsorship" or favors smacked all over them but I can't argue Transformers being on the list.

Transformers are definitely some of the best toys ever, if not the best! What would I do without them...

Top 100... Really?
I'd get it if Jace and the Wheeled Warriors made the list, but TF was a given.
Like Sticks, Dirt and Water... surprisingly missing I might add.
[what? was playtime invented in the 1920's?]

Obviously on the top 100, but listed 8th from the 80's UNDER Polly Pocket? Come on. Oh, and Serpent: Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors not only had great toys, it had the single best intro music of ALL 80's cartoons!!

I would have ranked Transformers much higher. But I think LEGO would be at the top of my list. Now if they could only come out with some official Transformers licensed LEGO sets......

Re: TIME listed all-time 100 greatest toys
Hooray, Transformers!
Personally, I think there's an ordered countdown, since they're organized by decade. I think it's just a list.
However, I completely disagree with all three selections for best toys of the 2000s. Maybe it's because I wasn't into toys in that decade, but I don't find any of those three to be relevant as the "best". Significant in terms of sales, maybe. But I don't think they should be in the "best of all time" list.

If this list is in order it is a horrible travesty. Transformers should easily be top ten, if not top 5. The franchise has span too long and had too much success to not to be in the elite of toy franchises.
I must disagree completely. The best intro of 80's cartoons was M.A.S.K. hands down

I think the numbering here is strictly used to be certain that there are 100 items on the list. Also note the separation by decade. Comparing different technological toy eras is not easy, but toys with enduring uber-popularity such as Lego, TF, GIJoe, Barbie and Cabbage Patch Kids certainly sgould be here. I also have a mild hunch about inclusion tending toward the top 100 selling toys of all time, rather than the 100 greatest.
I just reread the list right after this post and have to say 1-hit wonders like "Tickle Me Elmo" are debatable, but the furor that ensued with its introduction is certainly worthy of making this entry and some similar ones viable for a 100 best known toys. On the 3 2000s entries: We need to see how these endure the test of time. Brats is a stylized barbie line to me and shouldn't be here. Zhuzhu's have a similar relation to beanie babies, but not nearly as strong given accessories. More like an evolution of product as opposed to a re-style/deco. Need more info on mindflex before comment.
