Honestly, I'm wondering if this figure isn't missing some paint apps. The vehicle mode especially looks a little plain.

It's possible the above was just a figure that had not yet been chromed - but maybe this pic is the Hasbro version, and the one at the start of this thread is the Takara United version.

The pics from the 1st post show him with a rubsign on his hood, so it must be a Hasbro.

Takara has used rubsigns as well back in the day. They're not region specific.

Though that's true, they're not using rubsigns for their United figures. On the other hand, Hasbro is using them in their Reveal the Shield line, very likely meaning that this is indeed Hasbro's version of the toy.

Not only that, but we have seen (or at least prerelease pics of) Perceptor from the United line. These pics can be seen at this link. As can be seen it is lacking the chrome and the insignia on the hood.

The picture in your link (which was the same as the one I linked) is not the United version, despite the title of the news post. The only United pics from that whole batch were Lugnut and Straxus. The rest had text on them, in Japanese, that said "foreign version", meaning they are the Hasbro versions.

Good point about the rubsigns, but unless I'm mistaken, we don't know if Takara are using the rubsigns or not. The only pics we've seen are Lugnut & Straxus in that post, but all the other Hasbro pics in the same post didn't have their rubsigns either, so perhaps they had not been applied. Time will tell.

Having said all this, maybe Hasbro have started using chrome - after all, didn't Thrust's cockpit have chrome on the inside? But I think there's a possibility that these pics are the United Perceptor.

Another thought. This Perceptor has yellow eyes (which I think look really good) like the G1 toy. Hasbro tends to go for toy accuracy while TakaraTomy goes for show accuracy, so you'd expect the Takara version to have blue eyes. Hmmm... so I'm still not sure which version it is.

Hey guys... I'm really excited about this toy. Like, a whole lot. This might be the one toy of 2011 I'm looking forward to most. More than Jazz, Kup, Wreck-Gar, Scourge... that whole lot.

The frown suits him. And if the chromed version is TakaraTomy's, I may be double-dipping for the first time and buying both versions.

First, this seems to be a fantastic toy. Although, I'm not a fan of this alt mode for Perceptor, as it doesn't suit his personality in my opinion. But I have come to accept it. The tiny sculpted details in the robot mode are amazing and all over the place...very well done.

My first thought was that this must be Takara. If this is in fact the Hasbro version, I'm impressed. The chrome is appropriately placed, and the wheels and tracks are actually two-toned! But on the other hand, the red plastic is too light/pinkish, and the alt mode badly needs blue highlights.

And yeah, the long face is annoying. But overall, I like it, and will be getting it for sure.

Here you go. Can click on the little pics and zoom in. Not much difference except for the light blue on his face, arms and knees.

Hmmmmmmm..... That's pretty cool with the blue on his face, but I actually like the red arms and grey elsewhere better. Happy I finally bought my own Straxus today.

The black eyes are more true to the comic character. If I buy the Hasbro one I'm painting them yellow eyes black. Just looks a lot cooler. I'm still not quite satisified with the head design on the toy. Looks a bit dorky and lacks the larger 'hood' that made Straxus look more menacing like an executioner.

So this Perceptor is going to be Reflector too? I really dislike when autobots and decepticons share the same molds even when they are slightly retooled. Just makes no sense. At least when they're on the same side they can be a unit like Seekers. What logic is there in having 'bots and 'cons using the same body? When was the very first occurence of this? I can't recall if any G1 toys did that or not. Really takes away from the individuality of a character. At least when Sideswipe and Sunstreaker were brought into Universe using the same mold they used it in different ways and these guys are actually meant to be related so they have an excuse.
I have anxiety, depression and aspergers syndrome so my behaviour can be erratic. I don't mean offense to anyone. Just very picky about my Transformers collecting. You're all cool! :)

Likes: Bayverse, Marvel UK G1, Geoff Senior art, '86 movie (more for style/soundtrack rather than Star Wars plot)
Dislikes: Bumblebee movie (lousy rehashed dumb crud), TFA, G1 cartoon, IDW G1, BW/BM, MP. The entire concept of Autobot Megatron

After Jezle mentioned it could be a designer in-joke, I figured that's what it could mean. A quick check on the tfwiki revealed....nothing of interest happened on that specific date.

Maybe the designer's son was born on that date, and they named him Percy?

That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it! Thanks for the help gang.

I fear not. while Perceptor's hand may be able to hold a 5mm peg, Blurr's rifle hass a very narrow one. But perhaps I will be wrong, I hope so.

Have hope yet young grasshopper. Remember, a few (limited sadly) have enough curl in their fingers that a 5mm peg will fit and stay upright. And looking at the pic of him holding the missile into his shoulder, there might be enough in the lower part of his hand.

Or not...

That could be possible, it's true they used it for Thrust. I hope that's the case and he will be chromed. If not, I'm buying Takara. Perceptor is one figure that needs his chrome.

I feel the opposit on this figure than most everyone else. For instance, I quite like the face. Every time I see it I get this "not amused" look, and I feel like he's gonna say "Just what the inferno do you think you're doing?", not sure why. :-?

That was my fear as well. Hopefully, we are proven otherwise.

Also, since Headrobots has shown some IDW love with their next release, Blood(the Bludgeon head), do you think they or another third party company would take interest in making Perceptor a IDW Wrecker's head? Or Kup?

Like I said with Grappel a few minutes before I made this post, he looks friggin' epic. I like how his little shoulder cannon-thingy becomes a mortar in vehicle mode. Reminds me a lot of Snowcat from Energon. He's coming out in the spring, right? :???:
