Transformers 7: Rise of the Beasts Discussion Thread

I think on screen and story-wise, them being smaller would have made for a more interesting dynamic. Then again, this director probably couldn't pull it off without a heavy hand by Bay being included.
But the point is to sell toys, and as that's been pointed out, having small beasts would play hell with the SS scale.
Also, to Bob Forward's comment regarding size, Cheetor was the same size as regular cheetahs in the very 1st episode, and the same with Tigatron later on. So unless there's mass-shifting going on during Transformation, there's no reason for Dinobot to be 30 feet tall. Of course, that is possible.
I do have 1 other gripe I forgot to mention earlier. It's about the title. "Rise of the Beasts." Seems so generic and uninspired. A lot of movies have this subtitle with "Rise" in it. I just think something else would have been more creative. But with this director I'm not surprised. I wonder if it was Hasbro's suggestion. Either way I'm assuming they got the final say-so and they approved it. I think perhaps "War of the Beasts" might have been more appropriate and a nod to the origins of the beast characters.

Well that was just a suggestion on my part, not saying it HAD to be that. But I still think "Rise" has been used a lot with franchise movies.ZeroWolf wrote:They probably wouldn't have gone with war of the beasts since they're likely going to just call the spin off movie, "Beast Wars" assuming it still happens. In fact, that's probably why they went with Rise. They're basically just signposting that these characters are getting their own thing.

Oh definitely, it needs a rest I think. Though that may because I still link it in my head to that ill-fated (and over hyped) computer game from the 90s, Rise of the Robots.

As for something I'd like to see in the movie would be a terrorcon talking to their 'gun' or the 'gun' talking/influencing them/them seeming mad for it to later transform to megs or galvy. But much like with Bumblebee not actually using cassette bots in a retro movie with cassettes, it won't happen.
Might be cool visually if the trailer gets fan modded to dinobots instead of the beasts and Wheelie walking out of Jazz.

In a movie whose characters are destined to become toy's, you certainly aren't seeing gun formers

The Bay films killed my expectations in the past,

I have decided that I can feel hope and even JOY again for a Transformers film!
On top of that, like you, I am thrilled by the design so far.
They will clean it up and add some color, of course.
Just watch.
But most of all,
I love that they allowed PRIMAL to actually be bigger than PRIME!
Still hoping for Prime's rifle, though.
As far as I believe, Cybertronians can have both:
The difference being that the built in blaster draws from one's own reserves of Energon, while an external rifle would utilize its own ammunition.
For example, on TFP; BULKHEAD has his own blasters, but that doesn't stop him from picking up a rifle from Ultra Magnus's armory.

The Japanese Beast Wars cartoons, Car Robots/RID 2001, RobotMasters, IDW1, the Prime Wars Trilogy, the War For Cybertron Trilogy, etc.

Also, funny how some fans keep saying "but Mirage had invisibility, Hound was the one with the holograms, this will only confuse fans!", yet nearly every reaction I saw that knows Transformer names immeadiately identifies Mirage once the hologram trick comes up
Interesting to note the "enemies from your past and your future" line. Are the Maximals time-travellers here as well, or somehow precognitive? Maybe this is what turns the film into a "true" reboot, somehow changing past events so the Bay films stop being in continuity?

I'm also enjoying most of the designs so far (haven't seen enough of the Terrorcons to get an opinion). My only critique is that Primal's tranformation from gorilla to robot is too minimal, but that's a common issue with humanoid robots with ape modes; the body structure is too similar between both to make an involved transformation.
As for the weapons, I'd say external weaponry actually make far more sense from a safety/practicality point of view: they're easier to switch around and replace, don't use the bot's own resources for function or maintenance, and in case of malfunction or damage (particularly a blaster misfire) it's easier to avoid damaging the bot's own anatomy. I could see built-in weaponry being less of a widespread thing, either a characteristic of a Cybertronian subspecies or specialized military modifications, with the necessary secondary features to use them efficiently.
Frankly, I never understood why some people don't accept robots using handheld weaponry, just like I never understood "they turn into vehicles, why do they use spaceships?". I mean, we have legs; why don't we use them instead of cars and planes to travel within a continent?

I've wondered about that time travel aspect as soon as we knew it was involved. However I still don't think those involved care enough to make it a reboot in that sense. William also did an excellent article about continuity a week or so ago.

Optimus Prime fans get Optimus Prime!
Arcee fans get Arcee!
Abominus/Terrorcon fans get...........SCOURGE & NIGHTBIRD??? WTF?
Abominus is my favorite combiner. Explain to me why I should be interested in this movie.
My favorite Autobot is Wheeljack. Don't even get me started on that one.
I'd like to strangle a couple people on the production team. Knowing my luck, next time one of my favorite characters shows up in a live-action movie it will probably transform into a toilet.

Director Says Transformers ROTB's Story will be About Black and Latino Culture
Posted by william-james88 Mon Dec 05, 2022 11:07 pm
We have excerpts from the interview for you below and you can access the full article here: https://www.bet.com/article/7vzeq8/tran ... ls-trailer
“It’s been two years now — Anthony [Ramos, who plays the lead male role] and I talk about having this type of opportunity but also understanding it’s our time. For us to be in this position where we can tell a story about our culture, our people, and see ourselves portrayed on the big screen blending in with these vast genres is special. There are not too many people on the actor or director side to be in this position on this scale and scope, and we’re doing our best to carry this weight. No matter how many times [Anthony] and I look at each other on set, tired and all, we realize we’re able to do something special and for a reason. We created something special, and it feels great to be in this position — super honored and blessed.”
“The movie takes place in the 90s when the album Ready Or Die was released, so that’s why [Juicy] was the perfect record to choose. His voice and what he meant in that era and time captures much of what we’re doing in the film. Fishback, who originally is from Brooklyn — her character and Ramos's character have a lot of big dreams and hit glass ceilings but ultimately become the heroes saving the world discreetly as that’s how the Transformer laws are. You have these average folks transforming into something huge and special we didn't know existed, so the record was a right move — it was our anthem on set, so we played Biggie or Anthony was singing [The Tempations].”
In terms of how the seventh installment will elevate the franchise, Ramos feels the new characters, especially with Black and Brown people in leading roles, will play a factor.
“We have new elements and characters, with Black and Brown people in the lead roles,” he said.
“Things have expanded, and with me being from New York, where the story is set in Brooklyn, this feels like it’s for all my homies in the projects. [Steven] and the creative team allowed us to tell a story in a major franchise like [Transformers] in a part of New York that doesn’t always get highlighted in this kind of way. The series saw Shia LeBeouf and Mark Wahlberg as the lead, and now it’s me. It was Megan Fox, Nicola Peltz, and now Dominique. This film incorporates the Beast wars, the Terrorcons — it’s going crazy.”

NO ONE CARE ABOUT THE HUMANS, BRING US GIANT ROBOTS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!
Previously, we had James Cameron talking about "toxic testosterone" for Avatar 2. At least for ROTB, they didn't say "white pepple bad." Hollywood should remember that their movies should appeal to THE WHOLE WORLD in order to be profitable and poisoning the well is not a good marketing strategy.

Because that's getting its own spin off movie as a prequel. Hopefully showing shockwave's leadership of the cons in megs absence.

Does Paramount do animated movies? Because it would essentially be an animated movie. I think there was a sort of set-on-Cybertron prequel in preproduction.
