Cameos.

They're nice, especially for G1 fans, I suppose. It really makes the show seem more G1ish for sure to some people. I liked the Kremzeek one.

I for one was shocked that Detroits Mayor wasn't Central City's Mayor from Megatron's Master Plan. I thought that would have been a great reference.

Ah the cameos, one of my biggest problems with the show. They just don’t belong there and if I wanted G1 I’d go and watch G1. And to me it just feels like a slap in the face anyway.

But maybe that’s just me. :?

I'd say that's you. I personally find them funny.

It's sad though...this cartoon is leaps and bounds beyond anything that G1 could hope for.

Just a thought but most of us from the G1 generation have kids and this is a cartoon directed at kids. So I think the G1 references are to allow parents some intrest in the show. Not that hardcore TF fans would'nt have some intrest any way.

Aw no need to call out the older animated fans. I felt the same about people who liked Beast Machines but I eventually got over it. This reminds me of a magazine quote referring to fans who call out other fans for similar reasons:

"Let's say that you consider yourself a fan of something non game related, like ham sandwiches. Imagine that you start a conversation about them at a social function, but the person you are talking to just happens to be the Midwest's leading ham sandwich expert. He haughtily declares that your love of ham sandwiches could never be as deep and abiding as his, and because you canot discuss the finer points of hickory-smoked vs. honey-glazed, you have no business calling yourself a fan. Does some high-falootin' snob have a right to tell you that you lack sufficient knowledge to like a sandwich? Of course not, and the same rules apply to gaming.

Just because your friends can't tell you the year the Philosophers officially became the Patriots or the identity of Ocelot's mother doesn't mean they can't enjoy Metal Gear Solid 3. People play games for different reasons and appreciate them on different levels"

Now replace the game references with Transformer ones. It kinda fits huh? Might put it in my sig.

I was'nt trying to call anybody out. I was just saying the g1 reference are there for the target audience. You do raise a good point about one fans opinion and anothers.

I know you weren't "calling them out" in a confrontational way, shoulda worded it better.

Well I think the references are more for the older fans whom they know usually give newer transformer shows a chance anyway. I mean I was born the year the animated movie came out and only got to see G1 thanks to reruns. I'm old enough to have my own kids now so I assume the fans who saw G1 on it's first run probably have kids who enjoy the show. The targent audience for this show is 6-11 yr olds whom may not have even heard of Transformers beyond the new movie.

To me animated gives the 80's generation a little something to enjoy with their kids. I have younger brothers who watch this as their first TF series; if not for me telling them whats a G1 nod and whats not they go completely unnoticed. If anything it got them into watching the DVD's of the original show.

Oh and I thought that quote from the game magazine was the best quote ever. I love the guy who answers their mail.

No problem there and yeah same thought on the G1 reference chain of thought. The show has other parodys two ie. Det. Fanzone or Fan zone

1964 and The Boss, in that order...

...Dammit, I told myself not to answer that.

Oh, well. I was taking screen caps this morning. I didn't get a lot, but of the ones I did get, this one happens to be my favorite:

I did not feel that Slip was callling anyone out at all and, in fact having 2 kids myself that watch the show, I agree with his opinion.
It did get me some strange looks from my kids the first time I sat and watched the show with them (they don't live with me) and Dad was laughing when no "obvious" jokes were made but when I reminded them about the characters in the G1 movie they got it. Now my youngest son DVR's it so that I can watch it with him and point stuff out. Because of this, he's becoming a fan of everything Transformers, not just A.E.C., TFA or the Movie.

I think the "cameos" serve more than just being an amusing tribute to the G1 fans for those that are willing to take proper advantage of their placement in the show.

Yeah same here dude. My brothers and I do the same thing with the show I point out a reference and they wanna see more G1 episodes, now we all watch the original show together. It's something we all can enjoy. I was originally saying the nods to G1 were for fans of it and most people who watched G1 were people our age.

Unfortunately he won't STOP talking about G1. He wants to go to Botcon next year I just wish there was one closer to us. I mean we get comicon, the superbowl, the international air show, the autoshow, etc. But no Botcon in Cobo Hall? Yeah I live in Detroit.

We have it in Ann Arbor, Mi but I don't know if they still do as I have never gotten a chance to go. Pretty sure we do. I was talking about events in or near Detroit. Though Botcon is only like 5 hrs from us gas prices and the fact that I'm seldom trusted with minors is a big factor.

Oh and Shadowman...I knew someone was going to be able to answer those questions! You rock!

Ah. That's not the official Comic-Con, though, that one is in San Diego.

I'm a huge Metal Gear nerd. I even understood the ending to MGS2. I think that means I can go to Yale.
