Welp I left my mind undecided after the first picture and I'm glad I did. Still not a giant fan but I really like the look of Bumblebee, Prowl and Ratchet/Red Alert. Whatever you want to call him. Prime however looks like a human dressed in a costume. Really dislike the squishy looking hands he has.

Bumblebee rocks though.

I'm liking the look of this new series, they're doing what they did with the BM designs, not worrying how they will translate into toys, though I reckon the designs might change a bit again.

WOW....Prime looks like Robin, Bumblebee looks like Beast Boy, Bulkhead looks like Cyborg, Prowl looks like Raven, and Ratchet looks like Starfiere. Can anyone say "Teen Titan Transformers".

I think it brings back that feel of when I was 8
watching cartoons.
i hated the clone wars, yet loved samurai jack and like star wars. Somethings just don't work with everyone and this definetly strikes a nerve in a really negative way with me.

Ramrider wrote:I'm not hating it. While I'm not totally in love with the heavily-abstracted designs when applied to Transformers, as I've said before I have a feeling that it'll work fine once it's animated. This version of Prime looks a lot more practical than the Samurai Jack Prime that we saw in the other promo, and looks like he could actually transform without too much animation cheating (and let's face it, you don't hear much complaint about the cheating in the G1 cartoons).
yeah but the animations were fluid, and to be honest they didn't cheat that much with the exception of the mass shifting, and primes trailer disapearing.
Ramrider wrote:The idea of using their downtime to blend in with the humans sounds a lot like what they did in RiD, which, as the blurb says, should allow for some interesting situations.
yeah and we all know how that turned out. Like total garbage. RiD was only redeeming with the combaticons, ultra magnus and scourge, everything else was just shoddy, a step in the right direction after the failure of beast machines, but the direction it headed afterwards with armada, energon, and cybertron is questionable (the plots for the most part were like collect all of this, use it to fight some higher power, someone dies, end of show, same **** in the next "season/series" except now the thign they are collecting is something totally unrelated but for the same reason).

Ramrider wrote:By the look of it, this should be kiddy, but hopefully not too kiddy for adults to enjoy. There's a lot of cartoons that are aimed at kids, but perfectly suited to adults too (look at Billy and Mandy, or Foster's), so I see no reason why this couldn't be targeted in a similar manner.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out.
oh it's definetly aimed towards kids, after beast wars and beast machines, its target audience has gone down in age, or at least intelligence and maturity (im talking about those kids that are strung out on pokemon like the show/game were speed).

While i see this doing well, its for the wrong reasons. If its anything like teen titans, which i can guaruntee you right now it will be in some way or another (besides just visually), this will be a watered down super hero show with robots that happen to share the name as all of our favorite series, and character names.

I honestly don't understand why they have decided to go this direction with such drastic changes to the visual aspect of the transformers. There was nothing wrong with the visual aspect, its the plot and story (and character developement) thats gone down the shitter since RiD ended. So why they decided to "fix" the image rather than just the story is beyond my head. I was skeptic about the movie, and while I hated starscream and megatrons designs (I still despise the designs for who they represent) they are certainly better than this garbage.

And who wants to bet, cartoon network dumbs this show to a crappy time slot like every other transformers show they've hosted. Hasbro should abandon the art style, go with what has worked for them visually, and get the writers from beast wars, and maybe some guys from the original tv show (if they're still around), and come up with something that visually stays somewhat the way it has been (even with complicated and intricate designs like the movie, its still better than "robotic teen transforming titans") and has a decently written show.

I don't doubt this has potential, but so far, visually this is very unimpressive, and quite disapointing, and if teen titans is anything to go on, the show will suck too.

Powersurge wrote:I'm liking the look of this new series, they're doing what they did with the BM designs, not worrying how they will translate into toys, though I reckon the designs might change a bit again.
thats a horrible way to do this though. they make money off the toys, not the show. Making a show without worryign about how it will translate into toys defeats the purpose of them making the tv show in this style. Yet again, a stupid reason they have decided to go with this style.

also the beast machines example is a poor one, because beast machines as a whole was a failure, and almost killed the transformers off. I don't want this show to do that, but this time if it does flop horribly, that could spell the end for the transformers if they invest too much into this show carrying the line.

Here's what I beleive hasbro would be smart in doing, making transformers classics, the next tv show. You got the obvious homages, a new series that you could pretty much do whatever you want with, be it somewhat imitate the style of the original show, or even start off with a new take on the whole good vs evil conflict between the cons and bots, and even take the mythology of the show further than he unicron and primus thing. I'm sure something like that would be a smart move, considering how popular beast wars got.

but hey what do I know, maybe I'm totally off in my opinion here, but I honestly think that would be the better move here. Hell even buying the rights to megas xlr and putting that back on the air with a small toyline to go with it would probably be a smarter move than this... at least I'd have something GOOD to watch.

Man, some of ya'll are so harsh. Come on, think about it: If the other cartoons are any indication, this series will only last 2 years. (Roughly 26 episodes a year for a rough total of 52 episodes.)

Counting just the American shows, G1 had 2 years, then a movie, and then a 3rd year that was quite different from the first two years. Beast Wars had 2 years, then a 3rd year that was quite different from the first two years (Beast Machines).

Everything since (RiD, A/E/C) has had only 2 years, although actual episode amount varies greatly.

So if you don't like the new series, just wait about a year, maybe 2 if Hasbro orders another season of episodes, and then we'll get something else. The toys may linger until the next movie, or we may have another filler line, like Classics, but I doubt, I REALLY doubt, that this series has more than two seasons.

Yes, it could be the next big thing. Take BW for example: I personally do NOT like animal alt modes, and I'm sure there were a lot of TF fans that took one look at BW and thought, "WTF? Where are the VEHICLES?? That's not Transformers!" But the writing turned this into the best series yet. I still don't like animal alt modes, and I don't buy TFs that transform into animals, but I still think BW was the best written show yet.

Now, this new show does have some things going for it. It looks like they took some of the best elements from G1, RiD, Cybertron, and Classics and blended them together.

G1 = Ratchet as an ambulance.
RiD = Story/concept (I never actually watched RiD, but the concepts sound similar.)
Cybertron = Prime as a fire truck. I know this idea originated in RiD, but this new fire truck Prime looks like its only a remold of Cybertron Prime. However, yes, this is a good thing, because if you already have Cyb Prime then you probably won't feel like you need to buy yet another Prime.
Classics = Bumblebee. Remold of Classics BB? Looks like it. He looks way more like a remold of Classics BB than movie BB. The face of this new BB looks more like a video screen simply displaying flat facial features instead of having a real 3D face, but it STILL reminds me more of BB than movie BB.

Also, I think toys based on these designs would fit in right next to Cybertron and Classics. And heck, maybe Prowl is a motorcycle to help get us used to seeing riderless bikes running around cities by themselves so that when Arcee shows up as a motorcycle in the 2nd movie we won't even think twice about it. :-P

As for the toys:
Ratchet - If the toy just lets the front of the ambulance hang down like a beer belly in `bot mode, then I doubt I'll get him. If he's voyager-sized, then it might be cool to get him, take off his head, and slap it on G1 repaint movie Ratchet. :-P

Prime - Unless the toy is something really special, then I'll probably pass. However, G1 Hotspot did have a rather Prime-like face, what with the mouth-plate, so I might buy this Prime and call him Hotspot.

Prowl - I like that the wheels are in/on the legs, instead of hanging off the shoulders, and I think a toy based on this design could be awesome. If he turns out as good as I think he will, I would definately buy him. However, I would call him Groove.

Bumblebee - I like him...ALOT...Prowl and BB give me a real Batman and Robin vibe, and I'm really digging them. Just like with Prowl, if BB turns out as good as I think he will, I would definately buy him. I have no idea what I would call him, though, since Classics BB is the BB of my collection.

Bulkhead - I don't think anyone else has said this, but although at first glance you can look at him and say, "Hound," I'm actually getting more of a Rhinox vibe off of him. Kind of a Rhinox/Tankor/Energon Checkpoint mix with Hound's paint scheme. And Rhinox is the perfect example of a guy with the body of a "jock" but the mind of a "brain" so having Hound in a warrior's body really isn't that much of a stretch. If his toy is decent I'll probably buy him.

Anyway, that's my take on *1* picture of the new cartoon. :-P
Seriously, though, I couldn't stand the A/E/C cartoons, but at least Energon & Cybertron had some decent toys, so even if the new cartoon sucks, we will, most likely, still get toys that are worth buying. I know the fandom has a reputation for bitching, but come on, its getting old. I mean, look at the poster again. The whole Autobot lineup is an homage to G1 for goodness sakes! Except for Classics, we've never had that before! :-P BB is a little yellow car, Ratchet is an ambulance, and "Hound" is a green military vehicle. Prowl may be an homage in name only, but he's still there, and he looks tons better than Energon Prowl. And Prime, he may be a fire truck, but his bot mode is still classic Prime.

This is like Hasbro's way of saying, "Okay all you adult G1 fans, here's another re-envisioning of G1, with some RiD thrown in so that the Autobots have real jobs to do when not fighting the `Cons, but yet this is still a cartoon, still kid-friendly so that today's kids will love the G1 characters just as much as the adult fans." I really think this is Hasbro's way of being appealing to both the kid and adult fans. How about we give it a chance? At least they are trying.
Peace :PEACE:

That time warner and hasbro want everyone to bend over and take it in the ass on this one. At least when the japanies did the cartoons they looked like transformers not some cross between the hellboy cartoon and Megas XLR. I really hope that stories are good because then I can close my eyes and just image that the animation is good.

There is a difference between complaining and bitching.

And maybe you should get your eyes checked.

What's the problem?
1.They look like people in costumes at best.
2.The animation is horrid and cheap.
3.Fabricating the Transformers into beings from outer-space with human qualities that happen to be robots that Transform and save humans in everyday situations is a terrible idea for a Transformers cartoon.
That's whats wrong.

Transfans bitch about everything just like spoiled little kids. The sad part most of them are young adults to grown-bald-adults whinning about a new kids show just because it has the name Transformers on it.

I said it already I say it again, let kids today have their own Transformers. This is not aim to collectors. This is aim to kids. That's the kind of style kids like today.

Move on. Your childhood been over 10 to 20 years ago. Collect the toys you like and enjoy them. Is okay if you don't like something but jumping around crying and whinning on the same topic over and over again is just....pointless at least to me.

Seriously this last year alone the only thing I have read in TF forums have been most people bitching about everyyything.

Movie,Toys,Botcon exclusive,Comics it doesn't matter fans are gonna bitch about it.

The motto for any TF forum in the internet should be:
"Bitching is the right of all sentient beings or Peace through bitching"

I rest my case.

You can complaint about something you don't agree on and not bitch about it, but when you keep up saying the same negative remarks or keep complaining then you are bitching. I don't mean you personally just in case. I was trying to explain what I believe is bitching.

By the way I love that Guido G1 Optimus Prime. I always love how he adds most of the toy details on them.

1. pretty sure this promo poster is a little exagerated, and the animation will look a little better.
2. that being said, it looks great.
3. most g1 episodes were self-contained, with a couple 2 or three parters, this is not a bad thing.
4. if it being done by the same people responsible for shows such as: teen titans, ben 10, hellboy, and the batman, it will probably be very entertaining.
5. bulkhead does have legs, not treads, look closer at the picture.
6.remember the description is only a press release, the descriptions for other shows made by cn have been similar, and the shows turned out good. it's actual target audience will probably be between ages 8 and 13, but so was g1's
7. it will most likely be a lot better than the garbage we've been getting from armada to cybertron.
8. give it a chance, i know i'm going to.

Okay so I had some reservations about the Bay-esque TF's in the movie and they turned out great. But I waited until I had seen the figures and movie to pass judgement.

I have similar reservations about this.....but again I will wait until I see the figures and show until I moan about it!

Yes the figures on the poster look bad...but none of us know what the show will look like and what the figures look like.

I'll reserve judgement until we see more...............

Notice how superhero like they look. even their poses reflect individual heros. It's the avengers in transformers suits. Eachone has a pose reflecting that characteristic of a character who has been an avenger.

Optimus Prime is sentry. Bumblebee is Spiderman, Bulkhead is hulk, prowl could be ronin (or any other ninja, which bendis is currently overly fond of in avengers), ratchets pose could be wolverine or beast (both of which had stints in the avengers at least once).

I don't get why the title makes such a deal of it being 'animated' what we have till now? glove puppets? I thought we'd waited 20 odd years for live transformers to come to the screen, ( and even then, they're still animated^^)

I've lost all patience, personally.

I liked this art style better back when it was called Teen Titans.

But this... this is just more forced childhood raping like the freaking movie was.

INSANITY.

Can't wait to hear all the sheep who say it sucks now going, "Whoops! It grew on me!" after the premiere episode.

QFT!!!!!

I am saddened. I guess this must be what kids want these days. Hell, all I really ever wanted was to see the Headmaster series dubbed in English with the G1 voice actors. I guess that will never happen. Its too bad.
