I can understand the missing rub sign, and the antennae can be swapped. But the missing middle legs are a huge WAT.

Yeah, that is a weird one. If I'm not mistaken, its also the biggest change to a reissue we've had in this line. Only reason I can think of as to why would be to reduce plastic (though surely the legs wouldn't amount to that much)

I wonder if they somehow lost that part of the mold or something? Seems strange to both choose to use an incomplete mold for reissue and to not simply mold new legs. Most likely for a figure like this the middle legs are on their own sprue and they just crank out a ton of them that go in a bin for assembly so it would be a new mold they'd get a lot of use out of even if it was just for this one run. They went to the trouble of remolding quite a bit of Rattrap, what's two little bug legs?

All-new mold for Rattrap, it's been confirmed. As for Retrax's legs, could very well be an oversight, not intentional.

I've actually had a theory about Retrax's missing legs for a while now. I'm pretty confident that the reason they left out those middle legs is because one of them ends up in the middle of his groin in robot mode. When transformed properly, the bug leg is hidden beneath the robot mode's chestplate. But one could instead choose to not hide it away and just let it stick out from the figure's waist all phallic-like. By removing it, Hasbro is basically eliminating that option from being a potential possibility for someone to do with the figure altogether.

This is not the first time Hasbro has taken a preexisting design and made changes to it in order to eliminate any option for consumers to be naughty and make a figure's existing parts stick outward from the groin area. For Hasbro's three megazord toys for Power Rangers Dino Fury, they modified Bandai's original design for all three megazords' crotch pieces to render the once functional ports in their abdominal regions completely non-functional, enabling no attachable pieces to attach to said ports (save for one unique "loincloth" piece designed to specifically attach to the T-Rex Champion Zord's crotch port, which Hasbro apparently deemed an acceptable piece to attach there since it is a flat piece that doesn't stick outward, and its own port has likewise been rendered non-functional).

This reminds me of the first batch of Transmetal Blackarachnia whose chestplate was removable to reveal.... erect nipples! the running change was to invert this "feature" so that the pegs were on the chestplate instead of her breasts.

TM Blackie is now worth a fortune. But that OG "naughty" run must be worth even more. :-?

This seems implausible, it would be sticking out of his belly, no where near his crotch. If Hasbro really did think this then they need a lesson in basic human anatomy.

You'd be surprised how close is considered "close enough" when it comes to (potentially) phallic imagery in children's media/products.

Rattrap is a super-popular show character.

I have almost the same theory, but it regards the other middle bug leg.

Image
At least judging by photos, that leg could be bent forward to poke through or at least hang down between the legs in a naughty fashion. Perhaps even more suggestive than with the one that stows in his chest.

Also, see above. If I'm right about that, anyway. I don't own Retrax or Powerhug, so I can't check.

I think I'll write to Hasbro, see if I can get a definite answer from them.

You'd probably have a better chance of getting a response if you email them saying you bought one and it's missing legs rather than just asking why they're missing.

You'll have better luck pressing a piece of coal between your hands to make a diamond than getting a straight answer about anything from Hasbro.

Isn't that just how big organisations work?
There are lucky employees who get to design toys.
There are unlucky employees who have to answer questions from annoyed customers.
If those unlucky employees cannot easily find the answer to the questions, they typically don't know who to ask. Therefore, the questions never reach those lucky, lucky employees. Who are probably drinking a cocktail on a beach filled with models in bikini's.

I was thinking more along the lines of if you just email and ask they'll probably ignore you, but if you say you bought one they might at least give you an "it's not an error, it's a feature" response which would at least maybe confirm it was intentional.

Retrax is good. He still has good springs. They don't hurt if they snap on you or anything, but they work and he has a good hugging action.

Whoever took those pics pulled that off by turning around the figure's head and feet, and by putting the arms on backwards, to make the back of the torso face forward in order to use functional port on the figure's tushie.

Dread it, run from it, crotch pics will happen all the same.
Whoever took those pics pulled that off by turning around the figure's head and feet, and by putting the arms on backwards, to make the back of the torso face forward in order to use functional port on the figure's tushie.

That person also plugged the feet on the opposite sides to make it look better, and I would know because if you are wondering if I know who did it ...

My point was Hasbro can try all they want, but with this modular system, adding a massive boner will, uh, find a way

How appropriate that you used a JP film reference, since you're being about as mature as the director who decided "ha ha hand in dino turds" was more important to show than the resolution to what was making the triceratops sick :P I can imagine how your Quickswitch and any instance of the Cybertron Scourge mold you might have are displayed

A bit more on topic.

Very glad they reissued Scorponok (and I'm pleased that unlike with Primal, his launcher doesn't seem to have been given weaker springs). Honestly, I'm glad for these reissues in general, although if they're gonna keep reissuing Basics they need to create a separate price point for them.

Reissues I hope to see: Waspinator (mostly because of the smegging missiles; someone putting out accessible repro missiles would also be good), Rhinox, Quickstrike (stupidly rarespensive these days), Rampage, Tarantulus.
WANT:
* Cybertron Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Cyb Jetfire R gun and missile
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* DotM Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* ROTF Jetfire R JTFR panel

Di Bonaventura is not a credible or trustworthy source. And most fans do like the diversity push, thanks.

Not as bad as the main Mech from the train based Sentai show ;) :lol:

It's good to see Hasbro keeping up the reissues, wonder if they'd ever venture into the Unicron Trilogy :-?
