Randy:My intention with the bio was to take most of Starscream's defining qualities and flip them 180 degrees in a manner of speaking. So instead of thinking himself as the most handsome, he is the most handsome but doesn't feel that way. Instead of wanting to replace Megatron, he is a very capable leader himself but feels Megatron is more suited, etc. Even things like his weaknesses, which got cut for room, were the opposite of Starscream's.
Sabrblade wrote:Pete Sinclair has chimed in on the choosing of SG Starscream:So, it bears repeating, we will be explaining why it was SG Starscream and not say SG Double Pretender Optimus Prime at Pete's Robot Convention. Don't want to give too much away, but had the TFSS continued it would not have been SG Starscream. Looking forward to sharing the story at the panel!

Nothing was mentioned about the HFGs at the con, but now knowing about how the SG Starscream figure came about, I can deduce that, since the original plan was to do Sunstorm, the clear red HFG was to have been for Sunstorm's "Shining Fist" (from Randy's original G Gundam reference to the Shining Finger of that series). Because Sunstorm was to have a clear HFG, that must have led to Ratchet having one too, so as to make the two sort of hot-cold/harm-heal counterparts. But when Sunstorm was changed to SG Starscream, the clear red fist was kept for him since one of the custom class options for Ratchet (who was also keeping his own clear HFG) was SG Ratchet, resulting in a pattern of both SG dudes having clear HFGs.starfish wrote:Cheers for the info, much appreciated.
I'm no fan of SG as a concept, but that Starscream's colour scheme is gorgeous, so I'm glad we got him rather than Sunstorm.
I heard elsewhere that there was supposedly a specific reason why both Starscream and the Botcon Ratchet ended up with transparent hand/foot guns, but the original intention fell by the wayside when the character was changed late in the day. Any idea what that was?

I suppose. The plans for TFSS 5.0 were made at the same time as the plans for the 4.0 (all the way back in... March 2015, I think?), so the Starscream mold would have been set on stone well in advance of Fun Pub's learning about their losing the Transformers license.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:So put short, it all came down to Hasbro dropping the ball on the timing of the news? Bummer,
By Hasbro, Takara, e-HOBBY, or another other official venue, yes, but only if any of them choose to do so.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:but those concepts can still be used in the future, right?

He deliberately avoided getting/making the G1 cartoon-colored BotCon Ratchet as he prefers G1 Ratchet's Marvel Comics colors, but did pick up Lynxmaster and its cartoon-colored Ratchet when that came out:
And so I have, at last!Sabrblade wrote:I plan to make a more formal report on the con later,

The have the 2015 BotCon Exclusive Waruders (4 pack) at $43.94 which is pretty much a steal (not counting shipping of course)
