Transformers Combiner Wars Devastator - So Big It Needs Its Own Thread
Re: Transformers Generations Devastator - So Big It Needs Its Own Thread
I imagine it would be a hard sell to retailers to carry 6 green construction vehicles since Hasbro is already filling up pegs with the other combiners.
On the positive side TRU is a place where they can sell a higher priced collecter item, and put a little more effort into it, maybe even on level of 3rd parties.
On the down side it will be sold a TRU, where is will be a bear of a time trying to find in stores.

Because then Hasbro would have to release six more products at the voyager price point, six more products that to parents will look exactly the same: large construction vehicles painted green and purple. Not to mention, Hasbro has to convince retailers to buy those waves of nigh-identical looking products and allocate all that shelf-space for a higher than normal price-point item. Releasing Devastator as a gift set to a toy specialty store makes perfect sense.

It's still early in the game. For all we know TRU stores might plan to release all of the CW combiners. As Gift sets exclusives and also regular retail CW combiners sold individually.
It's plausible that TRU stores might sell Generartions Devastator as a Titan gift set. While others sell generations Devastator as Six Individual Voyagers releases.

TFC HERC is essentially all voyagers. He isn't Metroplex size.
I'm fine with him being the biggest and baddest as well. To me he was always the strongest of the combiners.

Has the Hasbro Toy fair ever shown Transformers store exclusives? Don't remember ever seeing any. If Titan Devastator is a TRU exclusive wondering if he'll be revealed during toy fair or not.

Based on the insane price point of the reissue insecticons, it would be hilarious if this winds up being a G1 Devastator reissue, and not a new toy. And by hilarious, I mean sad.

Exactly. No one has seen this yet, and t mght just be fugly, a reissue, or a 'new' Devastator made up of a bobcat, a scooby doo van and four identical bulldozers. Alpha Bravo, anyone?

so it makes more sense for parents to shell out over 120 bucks on one toy vs 25 and that they can buy the others at later dates, im a parent myself and i know the difference in characters that my kids like and spending a lot on a toy that a kid may or may not keep in good condition is not very sensible

not all parents are sensible. a friend of mine once paid 400 euro's for an electronic piano, so "his kid could play with it"..... fyi, the boy was barely a year old at that time. AFAIK, the thing now either stands unused in the house somewhere, or he already sold it off (haven't seen it in his living room for a while)

Which is why the target audience for this figure is very likely adult collectors and not kids. Sure, kids CAN play with it, it will be produced to U.S. toy safety standards as it will be sold as a "toy", and well-to-do parents are welcome to buy it for their children, but there's also a new line of kid-friendly, perfectly fine to treat without "kid gloves" Transformers with a brand-new TV show tie-in they could buy instead for much less money. Are you also upset that Masterpiece figures are very expensive and sold exclusively through TRU in the U.S.?

Before we declare the sky is falling, remember that the initial reports of this Devastator set said specifically that it would consist of six "voyager" sized figures. The reporting source got information from something, assumedly, more concrete than a TRU listing. This new listing is just further evidence that what was reported earlier is credible. It is NOT breaking news in itself, though nothing is certain until Hasbro show's its hand. Long story short: It's MUCH more likely that this is NOT simply a G1 reissue (or a repainted RotF Devastator).

Doesn't TRU in Canada always charges much more than TRU in the USA?
Speculating, we still might not know the TRU USA Titan Devastator price. guessing Titan Devastator will be Titan Metroplex price. Also hoping it's not only a TRU store exclusive.
They only charge more to make up for the exchange. And with the crappy exchange today, Canada sometimes gets them for cheaper.
Example of Canada and US TRU Prices:
A voyager (generations or AOE) is 29.99$ canadian which is 25.54$ US, so the same price as a voyager in the states.
MP Sunstorm is 89.99$ canadian which is 76.16$ US, so it is actually cheaper than MP Sunstorm in the states which retails for 79.99$.
This price for devastator means to me, without a doubt that he will sell for 149.99$ US. It only makes sense with the trend they use of "round" numbers when differentiating for the exchange.
And for the record, that 120$ cost doesnt make any sense to me. I worked in collectable retail and the average is 100% markup. The 120$ must mean something else, but "what" I dont know.

I didn't mean to say the sky is falling, just trying to ground it a little bit before someone starts thinking that they're releasing MP Devastator next month, which I'm sure it won't be

This is a good point. Toy Fair is a trade show for buyers. If the buyers can't buy it, why show it. Maybe it will get it's own reveal.Tsutsukakushi wrote:Has the Hasbro Toy fair ever shown Transformers store exclusives? Don't remember ever seeing any. I also wouldn't be surprised if it's a shared exclusive with BBTS.

If it was a reissue Devastator toy. Think TRU would have labeled it either a reissue or platinum in their computer systems word codes.
Think this stands a good chance of being new Constructicons Devastator molds created for Generations. Due to it being labeled under the Generations word codes in the TRU computer systems.

Think it's possible to add city formers into the Combiners Wars toy line. As some of the original 1985 Combiners and 1986 City Formers were made to interact with each other.

To the best of my memory. Remember Hasbro the USA divison. Revealing Transformers toys store exclusives at conventions like Botcon, SDCC and NYCC.
Also hoping it's a shared exclusive with BBTS.

Unfortunately, all though this would make perfect sense, it just isn't always true. Consider RotF leaders OP and Megatron. One was amazingly complex, the other looks like a rush job. The TFA leader class figures released about the same time were significantly simpler and smaller, yet cost the same. Also, Classics BB and CJ were tiny and simple compared to the other deluxes in the wave.

It also depends on the Toy Fair: the UK one is a bit more under the radar, as the month's later US one takes up most of the spotlight. What we did get last year, though, was a first look at a lot of designs for (movie) characters, if not the toys themselves.
I'm more hopeful this year for the UK fair, but we'll see what happens. Just a week left!
