I completely agree and hope that those who say they wont buy him stick to their word. But most probably, I think most of the hate will end up being hypocrisy and he will be both more expensive and harder to find than Metroplex in one year following his release respectively.

Right on the money wj88. Really! All these bellyaching..........is this just a subliminal way of justifying not buying one because they cannot afford to buy him and just continue to hate for hates sake? Instead of all this tilting at the windmills why not start saving for one?

If they like the 3rd party or purchased one, why not just be satisfied with that and just keep quiet?

And this baby is lightyears ahean from the Bayformer Devastator.

Agreed. I can't believe anyone can look at this and not be happy for what it is: a modern take on devastator made by Has-tak. Come on, if you want to say what you wish it was, ok, but it's pretty great for what it is. Sometimes it's embarrassing to hear all the unwarranted complaining that comes with this fandom.
I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.

The really sad thing with this Devastator is that engineering and quality wise, Hercules easily could have been made by the Hasbro of 2006. The Hercules bots aren't actually that complex, and from what I've seen they/he is really sturdy. He's essentially a really big Cybertron/Classics toy. Sure he's kinda dated, lacking individual robot ankle tilts and having restricted poseability in combined mode, but compared to this thin, misproportioned, assless chaps wearing mess we have now he's a goddamn work of art. And like I say, we could have expected something like him from Hastak 10 years ago.

As for the "But I'll only be displaying him in combined mode so why does the individual robot articulation matter?" argument, some of us actually rotate our displays and regularly decombine/recombine our combiners. Every mode deserves equal priority in the design phase. I'd argue that making him a giftset was a bad idea to begin with. In any case, if you only plan to display Devastator in combined mode you might as well buy that Before And After non-transforming Devastator.

If anyone wants me I'll be scouring eBay for a Hercules.

Still think it's awesome people are judging a figure from pictures. Can't even wait for the reviews.

Oh well, I'm sure those who are denouncing it and declaring they won't be getting him will still sneak out and get him. >:oP

It's the American way, Burn. Say one thing and do another >:oP

Personally, I'll be getting him if I get the chance because:

1) It's Devastator!
2) He's much cheaper than the current 3P products by a long shot
3) It's Devastator!!
4) His proportions actually define his character as a wild misshapen giant of destruction
5) It's Devastator!!!
6) I don't want to fiddle with Collector's Items; I like TOYS.
7) Have I said it's Devastator?

On topic - not understanding all the hate, given its size and price point. Not all of us can afford a gratuitously expensive 3rd party product and some of us don't collect 3rd Party goods on principal. This Devastator is a great TOY and if I was 6 years old - I'd be shitting bricks wanting that thing.

Weighing in here on all the hate.

To start out, I own Green Giant, and size wise he's just right against the CW combiners we've got so far. I also bought GG two years ago when Hasbro doing combiners was a pipedream.

I won't be preordering/buying online from my usual sources as the shipping will be astronomical to Aus, but if I see him locally? Hell yeah im buying. This is Hasbro doing the original TF combiner on a massive scale that'll tower over most of my bots.
Does it scale well with other combiners? Nope, and this was my main/only sticking point, but after the recent comic where it took both Superion AND Defensor to take Devastator down, I'm kind of ok with this.
Is it perfect? Not really, but is it good enough for me? I think so.

Will definitely pick this up on sight to help support Hasbro's effort to go all out with their Titan releases, in the hopes that more will come along down the track. Titan class Trypticon of Omega Supreme anyone?

I hate all this hater hate.

G1 Devastator's not a character I care all that much about, and I already got the (even cheaper) Kreon "just to have the character". Plus, I can't help but be reminded of FoC Bruticus, where the sheer novelty factor is trying to cover up the glaring flaws. And no, I don't think an in-hand review is going to suddenly fix things like crummy elbows and excessive hollow parts.

Bruticus was a sad, sorry excuse for a Transformer. Devastator looks much more solid and poseable.
And no, I don't think an in-hand review is going to suddenly fix things like crummy elbows and excessive hollow parts.
At least you should give it a chance, shouldn't you? I've changed my mind about a few figures when I had them in-hand.

Well, I'll definitely read some... though I dunno if it'd sway my opinion to the positive. In fact there have been quite a few times where I initially wanted a figure but the reviews turned me away (Blitzwing, Waspinator, Whirl, Brainstorm). Typically for me if I'm not excited by this point I'm not likely to ever buy it.

Of course what's likely to happen is my brick-and-mortar stores won't actually carry him and I'll just sort of forget about Devastator. See plenty of pics online but just not even think he's for sale anywhere until he's long gone.

be careful with video reviews, especially from the guys that review a lot of MP and 3P figures, it's probably not intentional, but you can tell the disappointment (if present) in a figure is often based on unfair comparisons. Also there's nothing wrong with Brainstorm - the issue with the headmaster's head was fixed fairly early on if that's what put you off.

Agree, I waited too long for this and who knows when the opportunity will come again. I am not a 3rd party fan for different reasons and a masterpiece version will probably never happen. Unless some really earth shattering news comes out to further sway me away from a purchase I am on board to buy.

I'm liking the looks of this guy. Yes, he has flaws but he is a giant combiner that costs a fair price from a toy company on a budget. Every figure has flaws; Hell, MP Megatron has many , so much so that I have yet to hear a good thing about him. But we must take them for what they are. If you hate this guy, that's OK! Stick to the 3rd party ones you love. If you like him like I do, Yay! He's a good price and pretty impressive looking for what he is. Can't wait for the reviews. :BOT:

It hasn't been released yet and reviewed. And the shoulder of both Hook and Longhaul has indded some issues with its simplicity with no articulation.........in other words NOT perfect. NO way does my post comes as a blind fanatical supporter. (I'm going for the Tomy version btw) but all this, get Hercules or Giant is much better......jeez, it hasn't been released yet. When released, then we can trash talk the bugger.

This is kind of the same feel with MP Star Saber and WJ. A lot of collectors have been spoiled with awesomeness that they'll nitpick just about everything.

Opinions are differing sure, but I don't really see anyone being rude per se. Maybe it's just when someone says "I like this" and it's immediately followed by an unrelated "I don't like this" people think they're automatically in an argument? S'kinda just how this all feels anyways.

Like or dislike, there's no need for squabbling. ;)
