New look at the SDCC edition of Devastator just posted by IGN. Still in the box, but a little easier to see. The vac metal doesn't look so awful here; unfortunately a lot of the additional decals and paint apps (like the wheels) can't be seen from the front like this. Really looking forward to some in-hand shots of this set, including the individual robots.

Ah right, well apart from some cosmetic differences(maybe a bit of chrome here & there) their molds are basically the same....aren't they?

Chrome, paint apps, stickers and head sculpt have differences I believe.

I believe what Spanbauer wants is a comprehensive look at the details of the SDCC Devastator.

Yes, apart from the things that make them different, they are the same :p

Yup! We still haven't gotten a really good look at the tires, the additional decals on the vehicles or a look at the individual bots without Hasbro's heavy-handed photoshopping (and most of the bots were being obscured partially by another member of the team).

We were merely adding our comments on a figure compared to Devy. We apologize and now return to the regularly scheduled program.

And we still cannot wait to get him. Optibotimus or Chuckdawg, if you read this: Get a review posted on here as soon as you make one, or you hear of someone else who has! :BOT:

I'll try but I'm gonna be honest, it's going to be very hard for me to get this figure early. I'd have to order from Robot Kingdom and EMS shipping is over $100. The way things have been going I doubt the video would break 5,000 views.

Aww thanks guys. FYI the way I think this is going to roll if past SDCC exclusives are any indication. One of the big reviewers will get Devastator overnighted to them so don't be surprised if a review goes up the second day or so of SDCC. I'd do it myself but besides the aforementioned reasons, I just don't like the purple chrome.

I think SDCC Devastator is a waste of time, and money. For one thing, I like the retail release head better, because of the visor. And for another thing, why is a little chrome worth an extra 100 dollars? Leader Jetfire had chrome all over him, and it didn't make him any more expensive! 8-|

The chrome and the extra paint apps add to the price a bit, but the main reason he costs more is because he's a convention exclusive, and they can pad the price a bit because lots of people will pay for the privilege of having a rare item. Also, they're probably only scraping a profit on the retail version, so some extra change from the mold doesn't hurt.

Are they truly rare though? Alternator Nemesis Prime was released through TRU Australia, and I'm fairly certain we've had a couple of other SDCC "exclusives".

Their product order is probably in the tens of thousands instead of hundreds of thousands. Not incredibly rare, but just enough that they can stick the rarity tax on it.

I think the painting is too "toys for children", like the tractors to play on the beach... however I want this Devastator, but I would to see the Takara version first. ^ ^

Good luck with waiting. Hopefully if you are USA based, you can still score one by the time the TT version is released.

True, in fact I will wait for the summer (July) and I hope to see some pictures, then I will decide soon.

That version doesn't just have a couple chromed bits. He has paint apps all over. Between that and the custom box, you'd have a price hike anyway.

Do we even know how much SDCC Devy is going to cost? If the retail version is $150, this would probably be, what, $200? A $50 difference wouldn't be too unreasonable, in my opinion.

It would be cheaper to get the standard one & paint the bloody thing yourself!(if you also don't mind not having the chrome parts that is).

Not everyone has the time or skill for a custom paint job.

As others have mentioned already, its more than just the chrome. Bit it IS worth it to some people. I bought my ACG HongKong Convention Metroplex (at a horrifying premium) just for a chromed face and thighs. And if I had the money, I'd buy this Devy as well.

A horrifying premium? :-(

I was lucky. BBTS eventually had the guy on sale, and I caught it.
