As others have mentioned already, its more than just the chrome. Bit it IS worth it to some people. I bought my ACG HongKong Convention Metroplex (at a horrifying premium) just for a chromed face and thighs. And if I had the money, I'd buy this Devy as well.

I was lucky. BBTS eventually had the guy on sale, and I caught it.
Yeah... I bought him from some site RIGHT when he came out so I paid pretty much the highest price I could have. And I saw that BBTS sale afterwords. It made me a sad panda :-(

That's the problem, though. You're implying that if we buy it, it's a waste of our time and money.

If you don't want it, that's fine, but phrasing what you said the way you did implies a judgement on others.

That version doesn't just have a couple chromed bits. He has paint apps all over. Between that and the custom box, you'd have a price hike anyway.

Do we even know how much SDCC Devy is going to cost? If the retail version is $150, this would probably be, what, $200? A $50 difference wouldn't be too unreasonable, in my opinion.

Guestimating based on experience I'd expect SDCC Devy to retail for AT LEAST $250 if not $300

G1 Devs had chrome. On the component's thighs.

G1 Metroplex had chrome.

The SDCC version has a different molded face (no visor) plus the bling.

Extra bling means higher prices especially if the release quantities are limited.

I think some people are going to be quite suprised at how notable the differences between the SDCC Constructicons and the Hasbro Retail ones really are when the side-by-side comparison photos start to roll in. The vac-metal parts are the least of the differences in my book. You can't see the additional painted rims or black-and-yellow hashmark decals on Mixmaster in this image, but he's one of the lesser-obscured characters in the only image we have thus far:

News of Hasbro bringing Devastator back in his proper colors has brought me back to Transformers after a couple decades since I last owned some. I'm quite excited about this release and look forward to picking one up.

Have to ask though, what are people's thoughts on the TFC Hercules in comparison to this Hasbro/Takara release of legit Devastator? Aside from the official nature of this one (obviously), and the exorbitant price on the Hercules ($500? ouch), is the Hercules a superior product? The vehicles seem much more detailed and overall it seems rather appealing as a Devastator replica. From what I've seen of the legit Devastator, the Constructacons in vehicle form will be much less detailed. (I'm not even sure that Hook's crane extends, for example?) And overall, they look much less refined so far.

Curious for your thoughts.

Thanks.

And this IS from Habro!!!

No question, it's the best version of Devastator they've done. :)

And I gave the most logical reasons why it's expensive, as for the chrome placement, nowhere in your statement stated the V wing chest shield. You merely stated "the G1 toy didn't have chrome". >:oP

Firstly, welcome Jay! To Seibertron and back to the fandom ;)

I feel the main thing to look at when comparing CW Devastator to TFC Hercules and Maketoys Giant, is the size (we'll ignore the obvious $$$ difference). Personally, I have a very specific scale I'm trying to acheive with my combiners, and Herc fits that, and happens to visually please me as well.

IMO Herc fits really well in the Classics/Generations aesthetic, while Giant takes a few too many liberties and is a little heavy on the details. But the Giant fanclub is much bigger than the Herc one, which is fine, everyone has their own tastes.

Where does that leave CW Devy? I have issues with him, but overall I think its a really great looking figure. And from what I've experienced with CW so far, I can almost garantee that it will be fun as hell (something most finnicky 3P combiners lack) which for that reason alone makes him worth the gamble. As for where he fits, I plan to put him behind my Masterpieces. The scale works, he's very G1 faithful, and with a few 3P upgrades I bet aesthetically he can pull it off.

Heck, I would argue that even the plain, half-assed Hasbro retail version of Comber Wars Devastator fits in fine aesthetically with the Masterpiece line. I think people tend to forget that while Masterpiece figures are marvels of engineering, they don't look complex. So Devastator being more simplistic in the engineering department doesn't really factor into his aesthetics.

And the scale compared to the 3rd party Devastators? Forget it.

Thanks for the feedback! Wow, that first shot is epic. :)

So Devy's already available in the Asian market?

Part of the appeal of Herc is the vehicle modes look a little more robust, and I do like the vehicle modes. I think CW Devy's going to be the best one in combined robot form though.

Hey guys, I just thought, since Metroplex was being sold a couple years ago at Costco for $79.99, and eventually went on sale for $50.00, you guys think Devastator, since he's a titans class figure just like Metroplex, would be sold at Costco for such a good price? :???:

There's a few things that need to be cleared up here:

1. Metroplex was at Costco for 79.99
2. Only a couple regions saw that markdown to $50/$60
3. Devastator's retail is higher to start, so the Costco price would be higher
4. There's no telling whether Costco will get stock
5. There's no telling whether, if Costco gets stock, it will go on clearance

No, Metroplex started at $125. He was much more simple though, and not 6 individual voyager components that combine. :BOT:

I live near a Costco, so if I'm right, then WOOHOOO! :KREMZEEK:
"So you're saying there's a chance...!"

Possibly? I feel that Devastator is going to be more popular than Metroplex was.

But, I mean, who wouldn't want 3 sets at Costco prices?! :michaelbay:

There's a few things that need to be cleared up here:

1. Metroplex was at Costco for 79.99
2. Only a couple regions saw that markdown to $50/$60
3. Devastator's retail is higher to start, so the Costco price would be higher
4. There's no telling whether Costco will get stock
5. There's no telling whether, if Costco gets stock, it will go on clearance

Dash your dreams, boys and girls, Megatronus is here!!

It s a possibility, so don't rule it out till it doesn't happen. >:oP
And what do you mean "Devastator's retail is higher to start"? Wasn't Metroplex more expensive since he was a third taller?

No, Metroplex started at $125. He was much more simple though, and not 6 individual voyager components that combine. :BOT:

Well yeah, I started collecting in 2014, so I am not the one to ask. -_-

Metroplex had an MSRP of $100, Devastator's is $150. We've discussed this before. With you around.
