I live near a Costco, so if I'm right, then WOOHOOO! :KREMZEEK:
"So you're saying there's a chance...!"

Possibly? I feel that Devastator is going to be more popular than Metroplex was.

But, I mean, who wouldn't want 3 sets at Costco prices?! :michaelbay:

There's a few things that need to be cleared up here:

1. Metroplex was at Costco for 79.99
2. Only a couple regions saw that markdown to $50/$60
3. Devastator's retail is higher to start, so the Costco price would be higher
4. There's no telling whether Costco will get stock
5. There's no telling whether, if Costco gets stock, it will go on clearance

Dash your dreams, boys and girls, Megatronus is here!!

It s a possibility, so don't rule it out till it doesn't happen. >:oP
And what do you mean "Devastator's retail is higher to start"? Wasn't Metroplex more expensive since he was a third taller?

No, Metroplex started at $125. He was much more simple though, and not 6 individual voyager components that combine. :BOT:

Well yeah, I started collecting in 2014, so I am not the one to ask. -_-

But... didn't you just ask?

Metroplex was cheaper at first and is not as popular a character as Devastator. Those who wait for a discount will be running a bigger risk of missing him than was the case with Metroplex.

He has the attention span of a fly by his responses. Anyways, that picture of Devs stepping on Optimus is so wrong!

I'd rather it be this...........

That deluxe Classics Prime (from the 2-pack with deluxe tank Megatron, or the Sons of Cybertron 2-pack, or the United release) would probably scale really well a la this picture.

Or the original G1 and this Devstar. I really can't wait to recreate this scene together with the requisite pew pew whoosh whoosh

Devs also scales great with the MP Dinobots as the Mp Dinobots also scale well with the original G1 figs

devastatorscale.jpg

This is the scale I always imagined Devastator to be, and I think the one the cartoon most frequently (but not always) stuck with. So in my mind, Combiner Wars Devastator is in scale with MP-10 and the current masterpiece line.

I never liked when they oversized the gestalts in combined form; in that Dreamwave comic panel, Devastator is so oversized that Prime would fit in the passenger cabs of the vehicles!

There's some obvious size changing going on with Devastator since look how much bigger his legs alone are compared to all six of the Constructicons who are all roughly the same height as Scrapper and Mixmaster in robot mode:

It's region specific too. My Costco doesn't get many toys, and they certainly didn't get Metroplex, clearance or no. Even if Devy was likely to go on discount at Costco, it wouldn't do me any good.

Ah I see. This panel is better for that purpose I suppose. And I love me some DW (it's superior to iDW, I believe) but that scale was really out there for Prime and Devy. When Devy was 1st shown, he was taller than skyscrapers.

This is currently my number one wishlist item, however if the price rises too much (whenever it becomes available for pre-order), might just get the Green Giant instead.

Why is there so much speculation about price? Hasbro officially announced the retail price would be $149.99 U.S. all the way back in February. No one should have any trouble locating one for that price. Now the SDCC and Takara Tomy versions on the other hand...

Yeah, I am fine about $149.99, but if I can find it online or in a store for less, I'll go for it.

Yeah, I am fine about $49.00, but if I can find it online or in a store for less, I'll go for it.

$149.99
I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.
TFCon List: Classics Skywarp, General Optimus, BW Airrazor, Transmetal Tarantulus, Alternity Prime, Fire Convoy

I think that's what everyone is talking about now. What the SDCC price will be...

As Jay5 pointed out, I really hope they do NOT jack the price up something fierce. The #1 thing Hasbro's version has going for it is size. #2 is price. At $150 it really can't compare with the $400-$500 Giants and Hercules...

However if they jack the price up to $250, $300, whatever.... that comparison is going to REALLY be brought to the front. What people see as flaws are going to be very difficult to dismiss at that point.

$150?? Yeah. That's a great price.

Bingo. I love the more detailed, complex, and thoughtful models like the Green Giant in comparison to true G1 Devastator. If it's $399 for GG vs $150-$200 for SDCC, no question, SDCC gets my purchase because it's not worth over twice the price to me for a GG. But if SDCC creeps above $200, that GG starts to become much more of a consideration.

Guys, I gotta wonder, do you think Hasbro or Takara will do a Constructicon Prowl, to combine with Devastator? Would be boss.

I see what you guys are saying. Personally however, even if I have to pay $300 to get an SDCC version from a scalper off eBay, I'd still go that route over the current two third party options - without a moment of hesitation. For me, the Hasbro set has 3 things going for it that the 3rd parties do not:

1. Scale with Masterpiece line
2. Aesthetics fit with the Masterpiece line
3. In masterpiece fashion, individual robots are dead ringers for the original characters

Scaled-up Deluxe-class engineering or not, I want Scrapper, Mixmaster, Long Haul, Hook, Scavenger and Bonecrusher. Not...just some green robots who turn into construction vehicles. Which is what I personally feel you're getting with both Green Giant and Hercules.

Hard to argue with those pictures. Hasbro Constructicons look great in robot mode.

We have discussed this many times before.... It's incredibly unlikely since that would mean a lot of re-engineering and such, plus I believe Hasbro said they wanted to do a really faithful traditional Devastator in an interview, which is why they didn't have prowl in the first place.

Moreover (spoilers for Combiner Wars)...

...because Prowl is no longer part of Devastator, there is even less reason to completely retool a very expensive toy to cater to a relatively small (albeit loyal) audience.
