Let's pretend 3rd party stuff doesn't exist for a sec...

WOW. This is remarkable. They captured all the design cues of the cartoon Devastator pretty well. I hope the plastic quality is alright. I see some stuff that already looks hollow, but that's not much to complain about. Looks good. Will definitely buy.

Now, since SO F'n much was made of comparing this to Herc and Giant...

I'm left completely cold. I think it will be a really nice toy. There is no real comparing this to Herc or Giant because they are playing in different leagues. I kind of wanted to be proven wrong. I kind of wanted to feel like I could pull back from 3rd party combiners, but I think the market lines are set with this.

Please take that as in-offensively as it is meant to be. This will be a good figure and will be much more affordable. But like Superion and Menaser before, it's just apples and oranges.

So much this ^. That's precisely how I feel about Hasbro's Devi (and most of their combiners except Menasor who I kinda loathe because he looks like crap in so many ways, which is sad because I love the idea of using a 6th bot for the chest and whatnot). I have Hercules and to me, Hasbro's offering, while definitely impressive compared to Hasbro's past efforts at 'modern' combiners throughout the years, still falls well short of what the 3rd parties have been doing. I can't blame them at all though, because doing things the 3rd party way would mean Has/Tak's combiners would probably cost almost as much as their third party counterparts and I just can't see something that expensive being a hot seller so sacrifices had to be made.

I think it's the arms that bother me most about this. The feet are fine, even the head. They don't bug me much at all. But those arms look way too much like they just tacked on /glued on the arm kibble bits from a G1 Devastator toy and called it a day.

Oddly enough, I have Uranos, and aside from a few minor quibbles, I think Has/Tak's Superion is actually better than TFC's offering. It feels more like Superion to me than TFC's set, especially in combined mode, but the individual bots/planes (for the most part) impress me more as well, especially with Takara doing a proper set of jets.

Anyway, I'm glad Has/Tak are doing these. It's a huge part of the collector market that's been neglected for far too long and it looks like they've put forth some real effort here and they haven't made too many glaring compromises in the process so I predict they'll sell quite well with the collectors.

Wow, that's a very disappointing looking toy for that price point. Guess I don't need to worry about coming up with that sort of dough and can just focus on Superion and Menasor instead (assuming CW stuff ever actually starts hitting my area.... :BANG_HEAD: )

He could use a bigger head. And I wish the treads became forearms (and barring that, it would be nice if the treads were at least the same color).

My initial reaction is lukewarm... Hopefully he'll grow on me.

I thought the G1 version had different coloured treads? And this is still a pre-release sample, some changes may be made.

And while I have Giant, which apparently scales better with other CW sets, this is still very tempting

Those of you who worry about the scale of other combiners compared to Devastator: he's at least in-scale with the non-combiners. ;)

I think he was more knocking on things like the works of William Shakespeare and such, rather than British TF fiction.

Never thought of that, I just assumed he meant the IDW stuff since he regularly posts on those threads with some displeasure.

@Dagon I know they are just as much of a vehicle to sell the figures to am older crowd (or comic fans) but they still tell more entertaining stories :) While for me the original g1 toon didn't

He did bring the picture here first before anybody from the news crew found it. You could reward him with a deluxe class figure for his efforts. Just saying...

Actually he didn't post it before anybody from the news crew found it. Arctorro sent us an email via our contact form over an hour prior to his post. I was working on the news story already while he was posted the screenshot from his phone.

So youre saying he spoiled your big reveal ? ;)

You know, I could warm up to him more if somebody downsized him to CW Superions size. He is already simplified so why not? I really enjoyed the upsized BH Abominus in takara colors. Maybe those guys will take a crack at it for the Asian market. I have a feeling devys individual robot modes are going to be the sets strongest point. If so, having them in proper classics scale instead of kiddie playtime scale would be a big plus for me.

Nah...a KO company upsized them and they came out really good. Hasbro was going to upsize sinnertwin and cutthroat in the G1 colors but they got cancelled. I think they were released in china. I just bought the KO. Its really cool and not expensive.

However, slightly off topic, but still within the theme of "COMBINING", look at this ridiculousness I found.
