I finally realized what these toys remind me of! You remember those Fast Action Battlers from '07?
Tell me I'm not the only one seeing how this line is mimicking the FAB toys. Like, more so than the usually kid aimed Transformers sub-lines (One-step Changers, Activators, Deployers, etc.). Like statically, they don't look horrible, but then when you get into the articulation and gimmick, oh boy.
