That's the point. Difference in style. I have the TR and G1 version of most Headmasters and I find that Cyberverse one surprisingly good. It's a difference in style but it work.
I'll be skipping because that Skully is not a headmaster and for the constency of my collection. But as a toy itself, I think it's actually better than the TR toy. Not in looks, but in playability. Less fragile, more stable, and most likely easier to transform.

The TR figure has a nicer look and detail, but to me, the Cyberverse one is the better engineered one. They definitely could have made this one mold a headmaster and it still would work, better than the TR one. There is no backpack, it has proper feet, and nothing is negatively impacted by this. I would love to see them use this style of engineering to make another headmaster Skullcruncher.

TRs definitely better engineered and more playable, ball jointed croc legs for more posability, cockpit, removable Croc head backpack, headmaster and likely a secret base mode (that probably isn't at all basey) but for a younger audience Cyberverse Skullcruncher looks fairly decent and play gimmicks work for it. Would have been nice if it was even bigger but I guess it has to stick to the size classes.

I would argue against the TR one being better engineered.

The Cyberverse one could be equally as posable if they used the proper joints, but that's a cost decision not engineering.

Removable croc head is an engineering weakness to me, and was it really actually removable? The Cyberverse one tucks it into the figure, eliminating that backpack without any removal needed, and it does not impact the croc mode.

Cyberverse could easily have a headmaster, and still have a cockpit for it, but the character in Cyberverse was not a headmaster so it wasn't needed, but could easily have been done.

Base mode is all fiddling, no engineering whatsoever.

Agreed it would have been nicer to be bigger, but it works for its size.

Even with the limitations posed on it by the kid-friendly line and budget, i would say Cyberverse contains the better engineering. Smarter, tighter, more fun package. Just needing the couple extra things for posing, but again cost not engineering

Even if Cyberverses front legs were folded and tucked under to give the same log with legs look the rear legs have (Not saying a croc doesnt look like a log with legs, it just looks bad on this figure) it wouldnt hide the lack of enigineering of having robot arms dangling off the crocs body.

The way that the TR shoulders angle make its front legs look better through a transformation process -Cyberverse doesnt even have a transformation process there. Two sides of the Cyberverse lacking better engineering despite the clever folding croc head. The robot head doesnt look to rotate either. Overall it is worse to me even with giving the cyberverse figure credit for the gimmick and target audience.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the Cyberverse figure wouldn't look out of place in an Animated display (which I suppose is true for a lot of Cyberverse figures), especially in croc mode. It's just a shame that the action feature took precedence over allowing his croc jaws to open in beast mode.

I don't really see that much of a difference. I preffer the way the croc mode looks, its much cleaner with less panel lines. Of course, there is also less articulation and that is a dealbreaker for me in robot mode. Also, I am surprised that he is not that much bigger/taller/longer than the deluxe toy.

Transformers Cyberverse Skullcruncher Video Review

Postby Bounti76 » Mon Oct 05, 2020 2:14 pm

Weapon: Vibro-Axe
Thanks to Seibertronian and regular toy reviewer chuckdawg1999, we have a video review to bring to you of one of the latest Cyberverse figures, that of Ultra Class Skullcruncher! While labeled as a Decepticon on his packaging, and sporting a Decepticon symbol, in the show, he's an unaffiliated Cybertronian beast. He's heavily based on his Titans Return toy of a few years ago. Take it away, Chuck!

chuckdawg1999 wrote:When first revealed some months ago Skullcruncher was a pleasant surprise, then nothing; no leaked in-hand images, no early reviews, nothing. So it was a pleasant surprise when the figure showed up in-stock on Amazon. The figure really doesn't disappoint, transformation is fun and the armor gimmick is one of the best I've seen. If you're a fan of the Cyberverse line this is a definite pick up, for those who might want to try something new with their Transformers, give this figure a shot too.

And while you're checking out the video review, why not check out our pictorial review as well?

What are your thoughts on this figure, fellow Seibertronians? Is he a worthy successor to the previous Skullcruncher figure? Do you think he'll be making his way into your collection? Let us know what you think below!

What retool? You don't mean Skullcruncher, do you? D-Max's pics showed it's a complete different, bigger mold from the Titans Return Deluxe.

Running errands today, I found this guy! Someone tried to hide him, but I found him, can't fool me!

Image

Thunderhowl himself is a sort of lackluster toy. Both modes aren't bad, but so far nothing really to write home about. His transformation however is frikkin great. He quite literally folds in half in 2 separate areas. He's a lot like that type of calendar that is a cube that shows 6 months, and when you fold it around inside out and such you find the other 6 months. It's great

Image

Now the more important part: Maccadam. Gosh i love this thing, he is great! Except for the ankle tilts, he is very posable, and his aesthetic is really nice. I love the headsculpt, and the colors are nice. I love how bulky he is, and the hammer weapon is great in his hands. He is far better than people give him credit for, he's great

It's so cool to have another toy of the Thirteen.

Heck, it's so cool that Cyberverse canonized the idea of Maccadam being Alchemist Prime when that connection was only a possibility, rather than a fact, in Fun Pub's Ask Vector Prime fiction.

Ah.

Though, why Movie Dropkick for Amalgamous?

Quintessa is the one that has thrown everyone off

Honestly, Amalgamous does not have any figure that even sort of remotely looks like him, but movie Dropkick with his backwards knees and heavy upper torso that has so many parts sprawled in all directions, might be the closest figure i own to the appearance, so since he was the only of the 13 without a good standin, I figured why not?

I would not mind future TV shows following sort of what Cybertron started and Cyberverse continued: throwing in a new Prime complete with toy as we go until we have the full 13. They did Maccadam so well in the series and then gave him a pretty great toy. I would love to see Solus or Onyx next complete with a toy, and i still wish we had gotten a Micronus from RiD2015.

Funny enough, the monsterbots have faired the same way as the 13: RiD2015 gave us Twinferno, and then Cyberverse Repugnus. We need the next series to have a Grotusque and we will be golden!

I guess.

Had it been me, I would have used the Car Robots Gigatron mold in some freakishly bizarre configuration with all his limbs approximating the orientation of Amalgamous's limbs seen in his main artwork. :PEACE:

I guess.

Had it been me, I would have used the Car Robots Gigatron mold in some freakishly bizarre configuration with all his limbs approximating the orientation of Amalgamous's limbs seen in his main artwork. :PEACE:

I guess that one could work, I have both regular and Devil Gigatrons.
I'm looking for parts, Help Me Out Please!

So Thunderhowl then, this toy isn't really good. The best part about this toy is the transformation, it's great, but neither resting mode is particularly good. The Ultra class figure is the better Thunderhowl, no doubt in my mind.

And of the deluxes, I think Bumblebee ended up being the best one. I'd rank them:

1) Bumblebee
2) Grimlock
3) Arcee
4) Optimus Prime
5) Hot Rod
6) Megatron
7) Thunderhowl
8) Shockwave
