- Motto: "Don't be a goddamn coward."
- Weapon: Acid Spray Gun
Was watching the livestream with some friends, one of whom was previously an intern at Hasbro. We had lots of fun ripping on the thing, with its parade of figures we already not only knew about but COULD BUY, and ridiculous stretching out of descriptions for retools- "So, uh, Buzzsaw, he still comes with the stinger gun, so that's cool" struck me as a classic case of Asbestos-Free Cereal (that is, advertising something that should be expected as basics as a feature). It was also interesting hearing my intern friend's take on it, notably how the team were using terms that were completely internal to Hasbro and would likely confuse viewers (notably, "partial" being Hasbro corporate lingo for a retool, in reference to Junkyard in particular).
Anyway, enough of that. Of the things that were revealed, Ironhide looks pretty cool, not sure if I'd go for him or Ratchet. Probably Ratchet though. Sludge I actually have very mixed feelings on. He seems to transform "wrong" with the back legs forming the arms instead of the front pair, which is a bizarre choice. Far from the worst, and he does look decent overall, but I think the SS Dinobots peaked with Grimlock. Like, I could be tempted to pick Grimlock up on his own despite owning the Takara Volcanicus box, but Slag honestly I do not care for at all, and Sludge falls squarely in the middle of the two extremes.
As for the stuff that we already knew about but was discussed/showed off more, Arcee looks great, definitely want her. Likewise Buzzsaw and Sandstorm look awesome; I think I'll wait for the rumoured toy colours Scorponok for that mold, Buzzsaw I think I'll get even if we do get that Paralzyer redeco as his colours are just gorgeous. Nightprowler, eh, not for me. Reissue Scorponok looks pretty great even if I wish he was in the OG toy colours. Tigatron...oof, that mold has not aged well. Those beast mode hind legs, oh dear. RED continues the proud tradition of not being very good (and not even because WhY nO tRaNsFoRm, I like non-transforming figures, they just look like kinda crummy action figures). Junkyard looks very nice, torn whether I'll get him or Wreck-Gar. Buzzworthy stuff was just figures we've already seen with less detail.
As for the non-toy related stuff the VR game looked very uninspiring and further makes me sad that the only VR game of any interest to me is the Little Witch Academia VR Broom Racing game (I want to headpat Sucy, but I don't want to spend close to £1000 just to do that), the Clash Royale clone collab sounded monstrously dull, and as much as I like Peter Cullen, I unfortunately cannot help but find the idea of what is basically Optimus Prime ASMR absolutely hilarious. Imagine if they branch out- "Starscream tells you how he's going to betray you and how he's the new leader of the Decepticons for 2 hours" anyone?
Ha ha Transformers go brrrrr
