Pfft, while I agree that (most) of the legends are quite well designed, I wouldn't discount the combiners themselves just because you don't like them for whatever reason. Both the deluxe and torso figures (with the exclusion of MM) are very well engineered to do what they were intended to.
Case in point, the aerial bots. Solid 'bot modes, passable (at the very least) alt mode - I'm quite fond of them - and a stunning combined mode; Silverbolt is a work of art as a torso...
