Though, with all the critiques about Alpha Bravo replacing Slingshot, I'm pondering how folks would feel towards Prowlastator.

Prowlastator is pre-existing in the comics and Prowl himself is a "classic" character, so the situations are a little different.

The figure looks really good in both modes. I'd like to see some pics of him along side some currently released Deluxe figures, so I can get a better sense of the scale because in the pictures he looks kind of small to me...but again, I have no real sense of scale.

At first I wasn't excited about the figure not being Slingshot, and I am not a fan of the name Alpha Bravo. However, seeing more of the figure in these shots changes my opinion and I am okay with it not being Slingshot.

too bad it couldn't be a Retool/ Redeco of RiD LandFill with some new parts and a interchangeable head or new component where Prowl would attach to the torso forming the head and chest

Prowl being a part of Devastator is only cool in that something-that-happened-in-one-episode kinda way... like in Scramble City cartoon where one combiner grabbed another team member to make him be a leg.

For an actual toy, it's a terrible idea (unless it's just an OPTIONAL way to combine. I'd be glad to see the functionality added in this way as a nod to IDW if all six original cons are available.)

BUT —in my opinion — it looks out of place, it's the wrong faction, Prowl has historically not been a combiner, it's contrary 30+ years of canon, and it smacks of a bad fan-fiction... drummed up deliberately to be controversial like some low-brow reality show.

(That said, as much as I've disagreed with the writing in Robots in Disguise, I've loved it in MTMTE and all the mini-series.)

Just my personal opinion. Of course I'm glad some of you like this storyline. It's a diverse multiverse, and I'm not bashing anyone. Just stating my own views and distaste at what I felt like was a weird choice that stepped on a lot of toes.

they kind of did something similar to what you said about the switching limbs part in scramble city in that one Energon Episode where either near the end of the episode or in the middle of it one of Superion maximus's limbs was blown off by i think bruticus maximus and superion shot him and took one of his limbs as a replacement . i could be dis-remembering the same episode though correct me if i am wrong

Yeah, I think they should have played-up the mix and match aspects of combiners AND headmasters throughout the cartoon and comics. At least Japan mixed them up a bit during the Headmasters cartoon.

I also think they missed an opportunity of using Dead End as the odd limb in this first wave of CW... he was the odd limb attached to Superion in Scramble City. Either way, I'm envisioning that battle being the reason for this weird combo. Heh.

YES! I'd forgotten how much I loved this episode. While it's not the most amazing plot or animation, etc. Filling in the missing history, seeing the construction of Metroplex, watching the combiners fight and swap limbs, and getting an introduction to Magnus... That all makes this a really cool episode. I'd love to see an official release of it state side (with its original audio.) Or pie in the sky, it would be a great one-off to bring in Cullen and Welker et al for a DVD release. (pie in the sky, I know.)

Says who? Who ever claimed it was a "G1 reboot", except a few fanboys and their web pages? First of all the toys are not comics. Just because some of the figures somewhat loosely resemble their IDW counterparts doesn't mean a thing. If it did, then the argument that Generations Thundercracker and Skywarp are really part of FOC would be valid.

The comparison I can make to it is comparing the 80's TMNT toyline to 2012.

As a matter of fact, his death in the comics PROVES the toys, not the comics, are driving the new generation. Hasbro called for his death to introduce Alpha Bravo so they could have a helicopter mold for the Aerialbots to be used in the later released Vortex. They will do the same with the Protectobots. One of them will be replaced with the autobot version of Off Road. This all saves Hasbro money in the long run.

Being dead doesn't mean he never existed. He did previously, until he was damaged beyond repair in Superion's last fight with Devastator.

Yeah they are. It's been one long-running series since then and even current issues flashback to those events from time to time. The big Dark Cybertron event from last year dealt with the Dead Universe that Simon Furman introduced during his term in writing the comic, which was from 2005 to 2008, and which Mike Costa reintroduced in 2011 during his writing term.
