In my mind yes.

As a spy, having a sleek form (disregarding the whole "not all spys are sleek" argument because that doesn't apply to alien robots) makes more sense for sneaking around.

And the other big + Classics Mirage has going for him? Original mold. The CW guys are just repaints.

Never mind the sound of him 'sneaking' ;)

I gotta admit, having him in hand, he really is rocking the sexiest shade of blue I've seen in a long time, I mean, Hotspots was an incredible breath of fresh air, but Mirage's is just so easy on the eyes ;)

I also greatly appreciate the fact that the hand/foot seems to be molded in silver plastic, not painted, so that means: no chipping! (gasp)

Yeah, 'cause he will be completely invisible to all light spectrums.

And what with him sneaking around advanced alien robots and all ...

But you see, to me there is a nice symmetry to this. While Classics Mirage was an original mold, it was redeco'd into Dragstrip (thats the version I have). And this time, it is Dragstrip redeco'd into Mirage. And the alt mode itself is more G1 Mrage than it is G1 Dragstrip so it sounds more fair. To me, this Mirage is as original as Dragstrip is since it really looks like a lot of these redecos were planned from the begining. So while I totally get that Mirage doesnt look too much like his G1 self and that he doesnt need to combine, him being a redeco in this case is not that much of a con, for me.

On the subject of all the Mirage praising and invisibility talk, I find this classic G1 cartoon moment highly appropriate:

Though, something is seriously weird with the video's animation, as though the focus has been super-enhanced to emphasize the details (especially the imperfections) of the video masters. :-|

Wel, he is still instantly recognizable as mirage (without seeing the name anywhere), so he must be doing something right ;)

Yeah, not the greatest spy ever, he gets taken down pretty easily.

Also, Ratchet was never present until the end when they all transformed.

I made that a drinking game, once - every time the trailer appears/disappears, take a shot or two - everyone always regrets it after the 2 hour premier ;)

Dang. All this talk has me excited to get Mirage. I have the classics but to be honest I wish I bought fracture instead. (Marked down to $7 too) still kicking myself. Honestly I think the fan mod mirage will replace my classics on the shelf. Not sure. I replaced universe Ironhide with a painted and cannony AM Ironhide so I'm not opposed to not using CHUGs.

I'm still finishing up wave 3. Going through a divorce/separation so it's taken a toll on my collecting.

As far as combiner wars redecos. When the line was first announced that was all anyone could talk about. And people were getting excited over straight redecos. Instead HasTak gave us remolds and new character and cool stuff. I will say that I'm not as interested in the '84 CW bots. I really wish they put out some new characters actually. Or obscure ones. I love the TFCC subscription set but it's a shame they are exclusives. I think they got that backwards. I would have picked up those guys in a heartbeat.

And who else thinks it's odd that so far the autobots seem better represented in the combiner wars than the decepticons?

Give me some more 'cons. :-D
I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.

Perhaps because he was an F1 car, a vehicle by its very nature that is sleeker and more trim than most. Modern F1 cars are a fair deal slimmer than their 1984 appearance. Since Classics toys are an update to modernize the character, it goes with some understanding that: what was, what we remember, and what we idealize combine to form what we "feel" should be the look of a given character. That's how people come to "feel" a particular way.

We all know what G1 Mirage looked like. If we take your argument at face value, we are relegated to all G1 characters being stacks of shoe boxes and any forethought of updating the designs should be fixed upon the original cartoon.

There's a place for that and it's called the current Masterpiece line.

Ack! I haven't heard the term "dank" used in this context before. And I'm really confused after looking up "dank" on Urban Dictionary.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Dank

Does your usage mean good or bad?

As a twenty-year old, I can confirm that the usage of the word "dank" in this context is a good thing!

What i'm trying to say is, prowl's a stoner... wait...
Ah there it is.
