I'll bite and this seems like an interesting topic now that we are about to close out 2015. I'm not disagreeing here, but what makes Rook stand out above the others?

Most of the CW deluxe molds have some clever little tricks, strengths and weeknesses. I find Rook to be a great bot, but I feel his alt mode is a little unrealized. It's always felt like a 6 wheeled duplo block to me. The detailing and vehicle choice seems like he would have worked better as a voyager/torso.

I've had more fun with the Dead End and Offroad molds than Rook. This may have already been done somewhere in the 500+ pages or so, but does anyone want to share their ranking of the CW deluxe molds/retools?

Rook made my "Best of" list. I really enjoy that toy, but after fiddling with Drag Strip last night, I'm second guessing myself. I really like the DS/Mirage mold. He's great in every mode (maybe my favorite arm), and he comes with a sword.

I really like the DS/Mirage mold. Fun and posable, I like to have them hold the sword upside-down backwards. Same with Wildrider Break-Neck. I have him with his and DE's muffler dual wielding police baton style.

Here is a quick and dirty list without too much thought going into it. I'll just list the character that I feel did the mold the best. Also, I still haven't gotten into Swindle or Brawl yet.

1. Prowl - I just dig this mold and I feel Prowl did it best.
2. First Aid - I just like the mold and his is just a little cooler than the others.
3. Mirage - see above
4. Rook - He's big, beefy and a lot of fun, especially with two combiner hands.
5. AB - I've had a lot of fun with him, mostly because he got replaced on Superion, he is an easy grab to fiddle with and his legs/feet are clever, minus points for missile arms just hanging out on the side. Because of play time AB just barely nudges out...
6. the aeroplane guys - They are all so samey and they've pretty much been Superion since I got them. I would say Skydive is the stand out for me.
7. the guys with hip dysplasia - they know who they are... :-x

I like Dead End a lot for the fun transformation and bulk of he figure overall, so he's one of my favorites (along with Prowl and Streetwise). Alpha Bravo/Vortex also look pretty good, and Onslaught is completely amazing. I'm a little biased because I like his character, but Onslaught's design is really solid and I think he's my favorite CW figure for overall design and all the fixes from Hot Spot they put in, like the heel parts. I like Brawl a lot too, and I didn't have issues with a loose chest, but his arms are kinda short. He's up there, but not my absolute favorite.

He has 6 wheels, your well reasoned and rational argument is invalid ;)

He's pretty great, but his hands keep him from being #1 for me, mine might have to be Nightbird :x or prowl/hotspot
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

When did Nightbird get a deluxe figure in the CW line? ;)

OK Cary, I'll bite. My list is as follows for best figure of 2016:

1) Rook. Big, beefy, very posable, lots of configurations to use, proper weapon storage, hulk hands, Football(US)/Rook chess piece helmet, hand cannons/interchangeable weapon slots.

2) First Aid: Love the character, the mold works, makes a great alt mode, awesome leg and beefy arm, Head is spot on, design is perfect.

3) Devastator (combined): Huge, extremely posable, awesome head, impressive transformation to combine

4) CotT Megatronus: Very posable, solid, excellent paint, great alt mode, awesome head

5) CW Air Raid: Great transformation, awesome head, wing configurations, great arm, beautiful colors.

6) Cyclonus: Great use of a mold sweet head, beautiful colors, awesome combined mode transformation, great wings, solid, awesome combined mode head.

7) RiD Drift: awesome transformation, look, colors look awesome, weapon storage (both modes)

8) Prowl: Greatest use of the mold and best colors of the mold too

9) Dragstrip: best use of the mold and he is crying blood, plus has a frikkin sword

10) Blackjack: great update, works for combining without sacrifice, awesome robot mode, head and paint

Honorable mentions: Ironhide, Offroad, Defensor and Superion as wholes (but not being sold as box sets, I can't really count them, only reason they are not on the list around the #4 spot) :BOT:

OK, so, I only own Wave 1 of CW (minus Prime) and I'm going to be selling them in favour of getting Defensor and UW Bruticus, but what do you guys think would be some good "mix-and-match" combinations with the various CW/UW molds available?

I've had a few ideas for some fun combinations (using black PE feet unless otherwise mentioned)...

"Safeguard Maximus"- Torso: Battle Core Optimus Prime. Legs: Prowl and Alpha Bravo. Arms: Rook and UW Groove. So basically a black and white colossus of PROTECTION. Add the shotguns from FP's Colossus upgrade set for extra fun.

"Desolation"- Torso: Onslaught. Legs: Swindle and UW Wandering Roller. Arms: Brawl and UW Cursed Thrust. Essentially, Bruticus on steroids. I'd be inclined to make Roller a new head via Shapeways and give him a new identity though (Ironsides perhaps?).

"Maelstrom Maximus"- Torso: Silverbolt. Legs: Alpha Bravo and Skyburst. Arms: Blades and Stormclash. Basically an excuse for an all-helicopter combiner.

Also, I've had a few ideas for customs I may or may not attempt depending on how lazy I'm feeling.

RID Rollbar out of Hound (Which could very easily be done by just respraying Hound's white bits dark grey, giving him a new head and some Decepticon emblems. Given that I have never watched RID I might even make him a fembot as a homage to Transformers Adventure Gregevor/Rollbar being a redeco of Strongarm).

RID Armourhide out of Brawl (Question is, do I go Japanese toy and give him sandy-beige camo or American toy and give him that sexy, sexy stony blue?).

RID2015 Strongarm out of Trailbreaker (Just give her a new head, paintjob and maybe a lightbar and she's practically there).

PCC Smolder out of First Aid (Once again, new head and a paintjob and he's good to go. He even has the axe of the PCC figure!).

Vehicle Mode/Cybertronian Predacons (Razorclaw from Motormaster- if I can find him- Tantrum from some variation of the Offroad mold, Headstrong from Rook, Divebomb from Skydive and Rampage from Brawl, all with new heads, new weapons and maybe a few bits of kibble replacement made on Shapeways).

He kinda doesn't do it for me...

...There's a lotta nostalgia wrapped up in the protectobots.

Reminds me of weekends spent with my grandfather checking every shop in town trying to find all the limb bots.

Selling Defensor now wont help, wait a year when the primary market has dried up. Then at least your out of box protectobots will at elast be selling for as much as what you bought them. And you cen sell them individually, so you can keep rook and sell the others :)

Guys, big "what if" here, but I was doing some day dreaming and had this thought.
There was that TRU database leak about the G2 sets that also included the Platinum Junkion set. What if that is some kind of combiner made up of Groove repaints?
total "What if", but that would be pretty cool.

It would be cool. I'll follow up with two questions first:

Aren't the platty sets normally redeco'd rereleases?

Was there a Junkion combiner in the past?

I just want the bigums Groove mold, not to concerned by the deco. Protecto/Techno/Junk bot, it's all good. I think a combiner made from repainted or better yet retools into Junkions could be fun. I think it'd give the designers a little carte blanche to go crazy and have some fun.

Third question: what would the Junkion combiner name be?

I was gonna write that it wouldnt be worth it to sell it now but I am wrong. A complete loose defensor with legends groove actually sold for 72$ on e-bay, thats not bad. So yeah, I say sell him now. Guardian will only go up in price as the years go by but I feel that a loose Rook (if ever you have some regret later) wont be too hard to find for a decent price.

here is the listing I am referring to : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Transformers-Co ... SwHQ9WUm-P
