These guys are shaping up to be everything I could want in a CW/PotP combiner team. The only thing that could make it better is, you know, a comparable price. But, I guess that's my fault for having other expenses like insurance and... food.

But are they wikity wack?.... Nah I hear you. This is going to be rough, but amazingly, not the most expensive combiner I've obtained since this format was started. I think :TAKARATOMY: sees what UW sets go for on the secondary market and forgot this was a new toy ;)

And, lest we not forget, this is still much better pricing than Botcon Predacus, or either of the Club Combiners.

Currently just in Japan, but that's a lot of new tooling. I'd be shocked if Hasbro didn't release these as well to help offset the costs of this set.

Still makes me bummed that we never saw a G1 toy Gestalt set at BotCon (or other convention) featuring BWII "Nautilator" alongside G1 versions of Rook, "Blast Off", Alpha Bravo and Offroad. Now that would have been an amazing set. Ah, one day!

Oh, now I wish that Generations Selects would do some G1 toys too. Specifically a combiner with BWII "Nautilator" as the Targetmaster, the other 4 as limbs for an Optimus-themed repaint of G1 Motormaster to serve as G1 Optimus Maximus  Actually, I would probably buy it despite not collecting G1 toys just because of the ludicrousness and borderline blasphemous nature of it

Wow, I hadn't thought of a G1 Motormaster as Optimus Prime before. That would be pretty awesome. I'd love some retroactive G1 toys as their Combiner Wars selves. Optimus would make a great addition, especially in a gift set with the other figures to give those characters their proper G1 toys. Heck, with the Motormaster mold we'd even get a Roller mini figure as well for the "Optimus Maximus" chest piece. Any of this would be something fun to see done with this brand!

I forgot how much I wanted those!

Another thing that I was thinking last night that would be good would be to have Selects of all the toys that have suffered the most from GPS and remake those toys with modern gold plastic. G2 Slingshot, Electro, Transmetal Megatron (apparently - all of mine have broken at the waist rotation), etc...

So... I think i might be priced out of King Poseidon. I know a tremendous amount of effort went into him, but 3x the price of a standard combiner is just mental. And yes, I just bought a Titan Class figure (tied with his original deco for my most expensive single Transformer) but that has a tremendous impact and presence that King Poseidon sadly will not... despite being twice as expensive. For the hefty price, I would have hoped for some more detailed deco, as well. The colored images make the seacons feel very much like stock retail figures, and Gulf's robot mode has a similar color distribution to Rippersnapper. Y'know... the limb that was 10USD on Amazon a while back?

I really wanted to get behind this guy, but it's just not happening.

EDIT: For clarification, I'm triggered by the level of unpainted detail, especially on Turtler. Within 24 hours of buying Hun-Gurrr, I did this so I wouldn't feel disappointed every time I looked at him.
Image
Obviously, when a figure's as rarexpensive as these, it's a much different proposition. My brushwork unreliable at best, so there would be a huge chance of making some mistake, some paint rubbing off, etc etc. And there would be no practical way to replace the figures, having already tremendously overspent to get them! :BOOM:

Obviously we missed it, you made a new thread. No one would get notification of that. If you want to make sure the news staff takes notice, you have to contact us directly. We have a submit news button at the top of the sight just for that, please use it next time.

I have an account with Takara Tomy Mall and get their emails. I received a special email from them at 11:04pm just alerting people to the Seacons pre-orders. I sent an email to staff saying I'd be writing this at 11:28, I even pointed out in the email that this wasn't in the forums yet (we got another staff email at 11:38). The first two posts went up by Sabrblade and Powered Convoy at the same time at 11:44 so nobody got credit. If somebody wants credit they need to email us immediately not after posting it in the forum, otherwise you're just taking a chance of us seeing it in the forum first. Also, posting something in the forums 20 minutes before it has gone live in the news probably means it was already in progress before you hit submit since it takes time to write, upload images to our server, and finalize, especially from Japanese sources like TTM. ;)

Quite a big difference if Star Convoy is any indication. Pulse - $79.99, TFSourse - $94.99. I'll take a $15 savings.

Exactly, Pulse is the cheaper option for the Takara Selects, if Star Convoy is the norm.

Gulf is sold out so waiting for Pulse (or elsewhere) becomes the only option anyway.

I will simply wait patiently until a boxset is released down the road or something. These prices are just too unapealing, no matter how cool the retooling is.

Wow that was fast! Under an hour. I'm sure they'll probably open up more pre-orders, but yeah, other sites will have options, this was just the first.

Will- You of all people know how excited I'd be, especially for a UW styled Box Set. I think if this were to happen, it would be announced sometime before the first ones actually become available to ship, otherwise many fans would be pretty ticked off. There's still time of course, I'm patiently waiting as well.

*edit* at the moment, something fishy is going on...links to these items are broken.... :-?

Well these are a takara initiative (not a hasbro one) so hasbro could release these differently themselves down the line. We really dont know. The dinobots, for instance, got a boxset in china.
Basically, all I meant is that the price is too high for me to not think carefully about what I will do and I dont mind risking losing out while looking at all the options.

Actually, that was just a specially designed *Box* with the 5 individually normally packaged PotP Dinobots on the inside.

I get your point though. I think we both agree. I don't really have a preference, but if any distributor (Takara or Hasbro), were to produce a premium box set for these releases, I'd definitely prefer that over individual releases.

Even if there will be no boxed set, I plan to wait and get them all at once. I understand that this is a risky (even stupid) strategy. Hopefully the prices won't skyrocket on them individually.
