Anyhow, I was wanting to wait on posting until SDCC ended to avoid the crowds, but definitely getting Blanker (yes, trademarks strike again) to keep my Siege Crosshairs company. Crankcase's weapons I wouldn't expect too much yet, if it can be done on Skids, it can be done on him. Skullgrin is interesting (this is his second Deluxe Class figure, he's going places!), any more Pretenders heading this way?

We got a Voyager Metalhawk listing for next year, and there was supposed to be 1-2 more Core class Pretenders this year but we won't know now what's happening with them now until they're revealed or leaked, since one of them was supposed to be Skullgrin and the other was using the same Energon Monster name/codename that Deluxe Skullgrin's listing had used.

It's the nose and teeth. Both are triangular in the new toy, while they were square in both the original toy and the show. Also, he has protruding cheeks in this new toy, while his cheeks were flat in the original toy and the show. Fortunately, it seems to be the toy's only real miss. It's a big one because it's the facesculpt, but oh well, everything else looks great.

Also the face is a brighter silver instead of metallic dark purple. And the proportions as a whole feel different, almost as if they squashed the face from the sides and expanded the helmet details over it.

Actually I can see it too. Look closely at the sides of his face. TM2 Megatron usually has two orange squares on each side of his face, but instead has one on each, and above and below that are those claw like shapes that RID Megatron has above and below. It's a weird thing to add that makes me wonder if they're trying to get more than one use out of that head sculpt, perhaps with a different helmet and tail going around it. The claws going over his chest is also reminiscent of how the RID figure has a claw "belt". Then you've got the big orb in the middle of the chest like both characters had. I think there's something to this.

BTW, the jagged teeth look to be painted on that way, they don't look like they're sculpted like that so it might change.

Check the cartoon face again: he also had just the one pair of orange squares and the four claw indentations. And the chest spikes as well (though I don't think they were so pronounced).

I do hope they ditch the jagged teeth and replace with with a square grimace, though; that really doesn't fit cartoon BW Megs.

Anyway, my opinions on the reveals. Keeping the accessories (especially Peacemaker) and the alt modes for later is a really weird decision and I'll never understand why they did it. My old gripes still remain: removing the wing-sword on Armada Starscream (or more precisely, removing the gimmick and then giving a redundant copy of the sword), BW Inferno has way too many ant legs in bot mode (couldn't they hide at least one pair if they were using faux kibble?), and Skullgrin keeps to the "update" of the Pretenders I really don't like. And I have no idea why a BW Predacon has the Prime Predacon insignia on his packaging (hopefully it's just a packaging error). Otherwise, though, I really like what I see here. The "A Hero Is Born" 2-pack is particularly inspired (the only way it could be better is if Vector Sigma somehow transformed too), and I hope Dragon Megatron proves Transmetals can work without chrome parts.

Still no word on those "Energon Monsters", though. Were they cancelled? Were they figures who were supposed to have a new gimmick or story role (probably the Pretenders) that was removed when the Netflix series was cancelled and they forgot to update the listings?

I will not be happy until we get a wig for that Megatron.

Welp, time to chime in!

Trans metal dragon Megatron's box pictures look .. pretty good?! Such a fun, extreme looking version of the character, its cool to see it get another day in the sun with some modern touches. Time will tell if the figure calls to me. I can see customizers like myself having a field day with the mechanical detail. Also the dragon mode, specially the head, give me little Dark Souls vibes for some reason

Dead End has me puzzled. The legs look pretty hefty and at first glance the way they taper down to the feet seems funky. More pics are needed to make a call on him, even if Menasor hangs in the balance. But also Dragstrip is fantastic, Motormaster looks like a solid purchase for me, so that leaves Breakdown TBD. So if 2 out of 5 (Dead End and Brake-Neck/Wildrider) are kinda lame, thats still not too bad

Pointblank, Crankcase and Skullgrin need more pics and shots of their vehicle modes for me to make an real critical comment. Even Skullgrins box shot isnt super flattering, so time will tell on them. Mostly I am just glad to see such a wide wacky variety of characters again and that people are excited for them!

I went to Target looking for Sludge. Left with Motormaster. So keep your eyes peeled.

This guy needs the other Stunticons to really bring out his shape.

So, I'm wondering if like Kingdom Dinobot, could you mistransform Dragon Megatron to give him the dragon arms in bot mode? Hope so cause that'd be hilarious

I just realized that megs' beast hands are used to form his bot mode chest ornamentation, he's got one of those hand bra's

I have Ultra Grimlock and he dwarf deluxe Slug and warrior Snarl in a non exaggerated way. Plus he's slightly bigger than Armor Slug. All I need is Bumble-Swoop to complete the set.

I for one, don't care too much about G1 scale, since the show never did, and furthermore, I don't want or need a $250+ collection of huge dinobots. I'm going to try and get the full collection, but I wouldn't have minded if they were all voyagers, would've been easier on the budget and space
