- Motto: "Individual freedom above all else."
Oof.
In the last couple of days I made my feelings known regarding Bulkhead and Skids. Now, for the rest that I see featured in this thread. Keep in mind, this is just my opinion. If you like them, fine. It's your money. Suffice it to say I am underwhelmed. It seems that most of these figures suffer from 1 of the modes being subpar in order to accommodate the other mode.
The bot modes on Dragstrip and Optimus look good, the vehicle modes not so much. The CW version of Dragstrip is clearly superior overall. The only reason to get this one is to display the Stunticons both separately and combined. I never cared for G2 Prime, so this will be a pass.
Arcee is definitely an overall downgrade from the TFP deluxe, the only positive I can think of is that she doesn't have the original's back kibble. But they gave her a flat chest and a blank face, which is a bummer.
Kickback looks good in both modes, but I'm very happy with the Prime Wars version, so he's not needed. If you like him, great.
And Galvatron to me is just a waste of plastic and leader spot in the line. But if you like him, good for you.
I'm still looking forward to the rest of the reveals, but my expectations have been heavily grounded. Bring on the rest of the BW figures, and maybe Blaster. Otherwise, it's money saved.
Also, just a reminder, there are a lot of shipping and supply delays right now, in the US at least, due to the inefficient response of the inept current federal government to this "pandemic," so it's quite possible that what we're used to as far as the timeline of new figures hitting shelves will not be the same for this holiday season.
And finally, a response to a specific post by Cyber Bishop from page 40:
You chided some of us who complain about this new line (me being 1 of those), so here's my answer. Just because Hasbro keeps putting stuff out for the "older demographic," doesn't mean we should accept that stuff automatically out of fear that we won't see anymore. Especially when they're seriously dropping the ball design-wise. If this Legacy line fails, what makes you think they will simply regress to making simple kiddie toys, as you said? It seems Hasbro is just taking it for granted that we buy everything they give us, just for this reason. And to me it seems this is causing them to slack not only on quality but innovation as well, especially when prices are going up.
So yeah, as a member of the "older demographic," I am a bit unhappy and unsatisfied with what we've been getting. Sure, it's my choice to buy the figures or not, but no one (not Hasbro or fellow fans) can tell me that I am ungrateful for not validating their lack of progression in design and production with my wallet. And maybe a financial failure of this new line will wake them up to how stagnant they are becoming and they will actually focus on other continuities besides G1. And shoehorning characters from other continuities into G1 doesn't count. It might give a new facet to G1, but so far the 2 examples (Arcee and Bulkhead) have done major disservice to the source material.
