Wolfman Jake wrote:For the "Transformers Legacy" line coming up in 2022, what are non-G1 fans hoping for with some toe-dipping into other Transformers franchises? For me, I'm hoping that the "Generations" aesthetic remains largely the same. For instance, I want the same level of detail in sculpting and capturing the screen accuracy of characters like Side Burn (RID '01), Hot Shot (Armada), Knock Out (Prime), and Strongarm (RID '15) that we've been getting with the War for Cybertron Trilogy. I want to be able to add these break-out characters from other Transformers universe into the expanded universe of my collection, which right now is mostly G1 and Beast Wars figures from the past few years. I realize not every iteration of Transformers really lends itself to this idea, particularly with the rather uniquely stylized Transformers: Animated, but recent "experiments" like retroactively making live-action movie Barricade into a G1 character, using Smokescreen as the basis for a retool/repaint, is the kind of inspiration from Hasbro and Takara that I want to see more of. Not all of them need to have a G1 character model upon which to base their "retrofitted" look either. It just happened to work well for Barricade, but perhaps a "G1 version" of Bulkhead could be its own design and alt mode apart from any other previous G1 character, like a big SWAT vehicle, or a military truck like live-action Hound.
Going by each Continuity family, I would love to see:
Generation 1All I'd really like as far as G1 bots at this point is a new Alpha Trion (the Titans Return figre is good and all, but I wouldn't mind something closer to the G1 cartoon design) and a Blitzwing (there could be a place for him in Studio Series 1986 because he did have a memorable scene in the movie). For Beast Wars, other than the leaked Tarantulas, just Silverbolt and Inferno and that would be me fully satisfied.
Robots in Disguise 2001Not much to tell you the truth, probably just an updated Sky-Byte that's closer to the original design than the IDW/30th Anniversary or Cyberverse designs.
Unicron TrilogyIt would be great if any new Unicron Trilogy toys retain some of the old play gimmicks from those lines, I'm mostly talking about Mini-Cons, but Cyber Planet Keys and Powerlinking would be welcome too. Red Alert, Demolishor and Vector Prime are the main characters I'd like new toys of.
AnimatedAgain not a huge amount, because I'm not really a fan of Animated's designs. Perhaps just a new Lugnut that's, again, closer to the original design than the Reveal the Shield Lugnut.
Aligned ContinuityGoing by leaks, we're at least getting new toys of Optimus, Arcee and Knock Out. I would also like Bulkhead, Insecticons and an improved Smokescreen, because the Beast Hunters Deluxe sadly wasn't very good. I sold off my entire Prime collection on Ebay a couple of years ago, which I now firmly regret because there were some fantastic figures in there, so I'll be happy with whatever Prime characters Legacy comes out with.
