AllNewSuperRobot wrote:Indeed. But even the new mold cassette shares the same engineering, via alt mode, as the rest. The alt mode is in fact identical in size, shape and structural design. My rationale has always been, that some of these characters are rival pairs that should have been made with the other in mind. There shouldn't have been 34+ figures between these two.

But it's not a retool. Not even close. You're defeating your argument.

Putting their mold variation aside for a moment and focus on the rivalry aspect. Compare them to Optimus Prime and Megatron. Within the original MP line, they were separated by FOUR figures (MP-1 to MP-5). Even the "definitive" MP-36 to MP-44 is only eight. Would fans have been happy if they were 20 or 40 figures apart, regardless of popularity?

Since Takara's numbering system has no real rhyme or reason to it, I'm not sure it makes a difference.

A) It is a discussion, not an argument.

B) If HasTak had separated the release of MP Prime and Megatron by 10+ years, it would have made a hell of a lot of difference to the fanbase.

Takara's numbering system makes total sense. I didn't have the time to write it into words yet but here is a pic of me figuring it out:

Not a literal argument, brother. I mean your "argument" justifying the retool/not retool.

Probably, but it didn't make that much of a difference from 10 -36. We had no idea there was going to be a 44. ;)

Including redecos and Hasbro exclusives, there have been 24 Optimus Primes in the Masterpiece line....
So didn't we?

I mean, it really doesn't bother me one way or the other if it's a retool or a whole new mold. All I'm saying is the retool route is "probably" a quicker way to get the job done.

The only thing I really wouldn't want to see is the massive size disparity between the two like with the original toys. Beyond that, it doesn't really bother me any if it's a new mold or not. I'm just saying it COULD be a retooled Soundwave if they wanted....which, clearly, they don't.

Jumping the gun a bit but, in light of the announcement of MP-48 Lio Convoy, let's go into Wild Speculation mode on who we'd like to see as the milestone entry of MP-50?

Image

My vote practically goes without saying, The Ultimate Transformer himself!

Do the numbers matter? MP 40 was a complete non event, as was MP 25 and so on.

They will make a big deal out of the Fiftieth figure in the line. Lower denominations only really matter with people's ages/birthdays.

So Play along with the wild speculation bit, eh? ;)

I can see Takara making a big deal over number 50, and then again at 100, if gunpla fans remember, Master Grade 100 was the first representation of Turn-A Gundam.

What's funny is, if mp 44 wasn't Optimus, I would have said a third op would have been a shoe in for mp 50

I would absolutely love a Galvatron for MP 50 (or 49). Even a new, less flimsy Rodimus Prime.

Maybe we'll get something low-key awesome, like Jazz or maybe it'll be the oft-talked about by fans but not Takara Starscream v3.

Interesting choice, it would be good for mp Soundwave to have his rival, and to have all his cassettes.

Watch mp 50 be big Convoy...

Powermaster Prime was the only Optimus I had as a kid so it'd be suuuuuuper tough for me to pass up a Super Ginrai MP....even if it would be $700 based on current MP pricing structures.

I just got the cab robot for Powermaster Prime, and I gotta say, he is pretty sweet. I would absolutely love an MP of that design, one that blows 3P away (Although that Striker Manus is pretty boss)

Greetings and happy Sunday fellow Seibertronians! Thanks to a head’s up from news member William-James we have a little gift from Autobase Aichi on Facebook to get your week off to a great start, a few dozen fresh pics from the Transformers Masterpiece section of the Tokyo Toy Showroom floor!

You'll see images of the just revealed MP-48 Lio Convoy standing beside some Beast Wars companions MP-32 Beast Wars Convoy aka Optimus Primal, MP-43 Beast Wars Megatron, MP-34 Cheetor, MP-41 Dinobot, and the newer MP-46 Black Arachnia.

On the G1 side of things we're treated to a few great angles of MP-36 Megatron, MP-44 Convoy aka Optimus Prime, MP-45 Bumble(bee), and the new MP-47 Hound.

With the high volume of news and images pouring out this weekend a few of these may be duplicated from before, but the majority should be new to the site.
Take a peruse and as always share your views with the Seibertron crew!

Couple ideas for MP-50 that haven't been mentioned:

Mirage/Ligier - I said it before, if Hound comes with the key to Ravage's cage then Mirage should come with the cage itself. But personally I'd rather see him as a later MP (not MP-51, I want that to be Cosmos/Adams for obvious UFO reasons).

Victory Leo - Keeping hope alive with this one. I'm sure they can find some way to make it connect to Star Saber somehow with some creativity.

Rodimus Prime/Rodimus Convoy - MP-9's Hot Rodimus form is now redundant, it's time for a redo that doesn't try to do double duty (though ironically it'll no doubt cost more).

Grimlock - Time to get the big guy up to 2.0 scale.

Fire Convoy - He was 5th place on the Convoy poll (even if that was only 4.9% of the votes) and he hasn't had a recent figure in a very long time (the Encore version received a rare recall, we're owed something to make up for that).

G2 Laser Optimus Prime - Seems like a popular character design and it would be really nice to see a larger version of the still great original figure with modern tooling.

Seeker Jet 3.0 - The second Starscream was better than the first, but still far from ideal. Plus it doesn't match the current cartoon aesthetic of the line very well. A 3.0 will happen some day, hopefully sooner than later.

A combiner - Not possible in 1.0, but more possible in 2.0 since cartoon accuracy means we can ignore vehicle scale.

What it wont be is Star Convoy or Armada Convoy (currently being made for Selects, they likely wouldn't do both collectibles at the same time), and probably not Dai Atlas (just released in Legends, but enough time may have gone by by the time 50 is released).

1, that overpriced Optimus prime (OPOP) is really good looking. I bet I break down and buy it one day. Hopefully, on sale.

2, I would love an MP Devastator (who wouldn't?) The Toy World Constructor is close enough to perfect for me that I'd probably buy it if it weren't for all the QC issues I read about him. Seems like not a single one leaves the factory without a problem. But he does prove that collectors are willing to pay $600 for an MP scale Devastator. The big question, of course, is would it cost $600 from HasTak or would it be $900?

3, I'm itching for a Starscream 3.0 and a Grimlock 2.0 but knowing that G1 MPs come out once or twice a year tops, I know I'll be somewhat disappointed when they announce them because I still really want new molds of characters we haven't had yet. I don't know why they couldn't have banged out an MP Arcee and Kup; there's no licensing issues to wrangle with there...

EDIT: one more!

4, Honestly, it could be a tougher job than an MP combiner but: Astrotrain.
