Say there's only the 4 waves we have "heard" of there's not really any teams.
For Decepticons we Got Starscream, Blackwing and Dreadwind and that's it. (I guess Blastoff too but he's probably an exclusive and he goes with Bruticus anyways)
Then for Autobots we got Elita-1, Moonracer and Novastar as the fems then we have Inferno and Jazz, even if you added Jazz to the other group it's still not a full combiner and then you leave Inferno by himself.
I really hate having spares, and what even is the point of Jazz and Inferno? Their just space fillers for other characters that could have gone in like say a new Chromia or some other fem to go with Elita's team.
There were spare torsos in CW, too. Cyclonus, Betatron-Scattershot, one of the Optimus Primes (take your pick which). On top of that bear in mind that we (almost?) certainly have another two waves to fill after those before PotP takes its final bow - that's space for up to 8 other Deluxe figures, enough to "finish" all three groups you listed and have one slot left over... not that that's how things will probably shake out, but y'know.
Heck, I'd hesitate to say we even know the contents of Waves 3 and 4 well enough to confidently make statements about which toys we will/won't get in
them either. Sure we have the leaks to go off of, but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a curveball or two by the time the finalised waves are released into the wild.
As for the "point" of Jazz and Inferno? a) they sell, with an (albeit slight) leg-up based on half-remembered nostalgia from the names alone; and b) they can fill slots for collectors who haven't got the many-year-old previous versions (which are
waaay beyond making Hasbro any kind of money at this point) and/or just want something different and fun. I'm probably going to pick up Jazz sooner or later, and though Inferno isn't totally appealing to me I'm sure he's plenty of people's cup of tea.
(Besides, if you wanna get technical, Chromia has had a
much more recent Generations toy than either Jazz or Inferno. So, yeah
)
