That said what I find strange of the 'Leader Evolution' is that the ape mode is on the Optimal Optimus part of him. It's on his season 3 form, a form which used it's Beast Mode only twice in the entire show. Wouldn't it have made more sense to make the smaller Primal the gorilla and have that smaller gorilla ride inside the 'jet' mode of the Optimal form?

Re: Transformers Power of the Primes Leaks, Rumours, Reveals, and More
Granted, we didn't know (and I'm not sure if Hasbro did too) about the 'Leader Evolution' gimmick so I imagine people voted hoping for a new mold of a Leader-class season 1 Optimus Primal. While that's certainly cool, I'm still glad they ended up with the insanity that was Optimal Optimus, being one of the odder designs from the Beast Era which ended up part of the show and introduced at a crucial plot junction, no less.

Wolfman Jake wrote:Optimal Optimus looks great, honestly. I don't get why so many people are upset that the cockpit/matrix chamber is blue transparent plastic instead of orange. The orange is toy accurate, but the blue is screen accurate, so it isn't completely out of left field or out of place. Plus, the orange cockpit would look a little odd on the Optimus Primal figure. Blue matches his overall motif of black, white, red, and blue.
i think more people are upset about the chest area being grey, not the chamber cover being blue.
the reason?

compare that to

it throws off the entire look of the combined form for the sake of the smaller prime form which in and of itseld doesn't look great.
Star Saber should've won, dammit.
EDIT: it's at this point i realize that the enitre conversation died. this is what i get for not completely reading through.
figure still looks kinda atrocious tbh.

It might have been easier to do if the deluxe was transmetal Optimus, the colors would have blended better. Fingers crossed that the next series of figures doesn't have that many toys which are worse than the originals.

The only potential issue is where it connects for gorilla mode's backpack (if anyone cares about that).

If you listen to geewunners everything from 1986-onward is worse than things from 1984 and 85.

Oh, also: technically speaking this Optimal Optimus isn't 100% 'worse than the original' as it has the fold-away chest guns, something the original didn't have. It also has better proportions. So it's not like it is completely and utterly inferior.

The guns don't fold away, you have to plug them into various ports

Yeah, the guns attach to the chest after you slide the cockpit down a bit. When not attached to the chest, they rest on the sides of gorilla's legs like where the wheels on the original figure used to be.Hellscream9999 wrote:Skritz wrote:Oh, also: technically speaking this Optimal Optimus isn't 100% 'worse than the original' as it has the fold-away chest guns, something the original didn't have. So, anyone know what rippersnapper's vestigial shoulder joints are for? his shoulders are on a set of joints that are just inset on the torso, there are even drilled pin holes and everything, was he supposed to have an extra set of movement?

Oh, well, maybe they don't fold away but they still look better than the original who had this gigantic protruding bloc off his back.

I actually much prefer the look of that, it makes the guns seem far more imposing than little things sticking out of his chest.
On the PotP figure you can also snap the guns together like CW Voyager guns end-to-end to make a gun for him to hold.

The Scooby fan in me really kinda wants this to happen

Slap a less dorky bot mode head on rippersnapper and just give him scythes for hands and we would have sweet new serial killer to hang out with the crazed axe murdered offroad

So what, am I being a bad 'Beastwunner' (I don't know how you call a Beast Wars purist!) because I'm okay with the new figure and think it has some positives just as much as it has negatives? I'm well aware that, whatever the character, the show or even continuity that no figure ever come close to meeting fan demands/expectations short of being a Masterpiece line figure.

I just want an Optimal Optimus to fiddle with for fun, something I can't do with my original one without the risk of it breaking apart or it's chrome flaking of. Its a childhood treasure and I dare not put too much stress on it.

This makes me happy. He looks good and I will have a 4th Autobot for a combiner, so Repugnus can stand separately with the other monsterbots!
This is looking so incredible, and he honestly may be the best of the leaders from this line, easily, maybe even the best of the line up there with Battletrap, period.
don't why people keep poo-pooing on him, he's incredible, accurate to the source material, and utterly unique. Plus, it's also cool that he has so many modes: Primal robot, Primal space log, Primal surfboard. Ape, armored Ape, surfing Ape, Jet, Optimal mode.
Plus, I don't see why the transport mode is so important, he is not at all hindered by not having it, and he looks great without it.
Also super stoked he gets his chest guns.
Also also, picked these 2 up yesterday while I was shopping for the new apartment:

Nemesis Hot Rod's shoulders scare me, they are way too tight to move and peg, I fear breaking them. But SG Roddy Prime's head is awesome and I love it, great mold for both uses.
As for OP: The alt mode is rubbist, more so than I thought it would be. But the Prime mode is amazing! That may be the best Optimus Prime headsculpt I have ever seen, and the robot mode has such character I love it. So he will stay in Prime robot mode, cause that mode rocks!

I still count it, but if we need to get picky, we can call them half modes, so Primal has 2.5 modes, and Optimal has 3+0.5+0.5 = 4, so 6.5 modes overall.
Still counts.
