It could be, but I think that might detract from the relic hunt and kinda come out of nowhere, but it's definitely plausible.
I doubt the relic would be a tank of synthetic energon. Why would they hide such a thing? It'd be like if archeologists discovered an old gas tank or an old soda cooler with the liquid still inside. Something like that wouldn't be hidden if they didn't want it found.
