I don't really understand why this was cut tbh. It adds characterization to Prime and it would be a cool scene.

I saw it yesterday with my wife. I never watched Bumblebee in the theatres as I gave up on the live action franchise after the Last Knight (my god it was bad). I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised. It's not going to win any Oscars, but it was fun to watch. Even my wife enjoyed it who isn't the biggest Transformers fan.

Side note, was it just me or did anyone else notice the scenes with Unicron had the Unciron theme from the 84 Movie slightly remixed in the background? :-?

This could have been reworked into a less dark version with some sarcasm, where Optimus is confronted by transit and just shakes his head.

Prime: 'Another one? Haven't you 'Cons learned your lesson yet? What makes you different from the others?'

Transit: Because I will be the one who destroys you, Prime!

Scene ends with Transit letting out of battle cry, charging Prime. Screen to black with sounds of a brief fight. Then we hear Prime: "This is getting monotonous."

Cut to scene of him dumping the body in the river and walking away and and time-appropriate hip hop song.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

I hope this deleted scene is included in a future physical release, seems like it would’ve been fun and interesting!

But I can honestly see why such a scene was ultimately cut, it’s definitely a misleading intro if you’re not as familiar with the lore and goings on. Like I said though, I do hope to see it released in some fashion (and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a Transit figure)

Interview with Transformers Rise of the Beasts Composer Jongnic Bontemps on Unicron, Maximals and Mo

Postby william-james88 » Mon Jun 12, 2023 8:34 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
We thank White Bear PR for putting us in touch with Jongnic Bontemps (aka JB), the composer for the film Transformers Rise of the Beasts. While we of course hope you watch the interview, we have a summary of the key points below. While we do mostly talk about the film itself, there are some interesting bits that could interest those wanting to compose in hollywood as well as parents who would want their kids more engaged with the musical instrument they are learning. Also, please note that this interview was done before the movie's release.

Summary of key points:
- JB grew up with the Transformers brand and his favourite transformers toy was G1 Strascream
- We go over the basics of composition, how even though it involves an entire orchestra, it all starts with a single melody and then the various instruments are included at various moments or renditions
- JB discusses how they got Steven Jablonksy involved in the score and the transition from themes of the previous films into this new one.
- JB does include parts of the Unicron theme from the original 86 Transformers movie within the film. He also notes the irony of how those chilling notes for this immense being come from a tiny glass harmonica (originally)
- JB then talks about the leap of faith he took and the massive investment he made to show the studio his vision of the theme for this film and how what you hear in the film came to be.
- We end on a extra tip for parents who are bringing their kids to music lessons and want to keep them engaged. The key is to make them play something they like and weave that with the more classical compositions they need to learn to hone their skills.

Here is the full interview, enjoy!

Maybe Hasbro ordered the Transit scene cut because they're going for scale and Transit is too minor a character and there won't be enough people to buy a Commander Class toy of it. :-P

Steven Caple Jr Talks about Next Transformers Movie, Sector 7 and Why Bay Focused More on Action

Postby william-james88 » Tue Jun 13, 2023 12:10 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
In just 20 minutes, Steven Caple Jr set the world ablaze in an interview with Deadline. You can listen to it below, it is well worth the listen for any Transformers fan, but we will also discuss some key points.

We'll start with the big one since that's what everyone wants to know, it looks like there will indeed be a next film. Not only that, but Steven, the director of Rise of the Beasts, is in talks to direct it and he wants it to pick up on the big GI Joe tease. What's clear is that his vision is to fulfill the what was promised at the end of the movie with a crossover film. What is not clear is if that would replace a Transformers sequel that was said to be part of a "Unicron Trilogy" or if the next Transformers film is indeed that crossover.

He also says that he had 2 drafts of the "GI Joe" reveal scene. As many pointed out, the scene with the beaurocrat made it look a lot like Sector 7 was recruiting Noah, rather than GI Joe. Well, the scene was filmed in a way that it could be both and both versions (with either a Sector 7 reveal of a GI Joe reveal) were shown to test audiences. Obviously, you know which route they went with in the end, but this does explain a lot. It also further highlights that Paramount/Hasbro are not letting go of any aspect of the previous Bay movies which are always an option for returning.

There is a really good segment on Michael Bay, who did talk to Steven about what to look out for in the film. Fans will get a kick out of this, but Bay warned Steven of including emotional or character moments with the robots and just focus on action. This is due to the CG cost being so high regardless of what is happening, so it should be saved for big action moments, rather than reaction shots. Now that explains A LOT about Bay's films.

You can hear the talk at the following link: https://deadline.com/2023/06/transforme ... 235415042/

I understand the cost of CG being high, but as much as I like the action in Bayverse, he could have used some of it to make the Transformers (especially the Cons) a bit more 3-dimensional.

As for the G.I. Joe angle, I welcome a collaboration, if it's done right. Make it about the franchise characters, not some nobodies we haven't heard of before.

As for this guy returning as director, if he can put his prejudices aside, and not go the same way that racist POS jordan peele did, maybe I'll see his next TF movie if he directs it.

Just realized I never typed out all my spoiler thoughts on ROTB. I saw it again in Imax on sunday, and the sound is what really made it. Bee and Battletrap's weapons sounded so good!

Overall, I really enjoyed it! There's a lot to talk about, so I'll kinda summarize into my pros and cons!

Pros:

- I really liked Prime in this one! He's still very much like Bayverse Prime, which I appreciate. His interactions with Scourge were some of my favorite parts of the movie, "I'm taking back Scourge's key - and then I'm taking off his head" was an awesome line. He followed up on it too, Scourge got the DOTM Megatron treatment!

- Bee, while not in the movie too long, was used really well! They picked some great movie quotes for him to use, and his arrival later in the movie was a super cool scene.

- Mirage was surprisingly great! His humor was spot on, and the hologram abilities were used in cool ways.

- The action scenes as a whole were much more of what I was hoping for compared to BB. Prime and Primal taking out Battletrap and Prime's final fight with Scourge stood out as highlights, but I like how all the bots in the museum fight got a moment to shine. The fight scenes weren't quite as fast as they were in the Bayverse (which I do prefer), but the ones here were still very cool.

- The music was great! The use of Steve Jablonsky's themes at the end was perfect and I loved it, but the original stuff was really good too. Arrival to Peru, Switchback Chase, and the theme as the Autobots and Maximals line up for the final battle were all notable examples!

Cons:

- The movie does drag a little bit after the opening with all of Noah and Elena's setup. Some of it definitely does pay off later, but it takes a little too long for my liking.

- Not sure what to think of the GI Joe scene - I almost feel like that scene and the mid credits scene should have been swapped, since Mirage was more central to this movie and would have been a more fitting note to end the main movie on.

- Scourge's design felt a little out of place next to the other Terrorcons. The others had more vehicle kibble and felt much more detailed (Battletrap and Nightbird could really almost pass as Bayverse designs IMO), whereas Scourge seemed to have a lower parts count if that makes sense.

I'm still working out my ranking with respect to ROTF, but here's what I have right now:

1. DOTM

2. 2007

3/4. ROTF/B

5. AOE

6. TLK

7. BB

Overall, I really enjoyed this one and I'm excited to see more!

"Why Bay focused more on action"? Like we need anybody to explain that? That's all Bay ever does. It's not like Bay movies are well-known for depth, or emotional appeal, realistic characters, appealing personalities, pathos, or intelligent writing and dialogue. Screaming, mumbling, chases and explosions are what his films are 'known' for. Doesn't take a degree to figure out what you're in for when Bay's name is anywhere in the credits.

There is nuance to this though. We see why in his films we'd never get a reaction shot from a bot and why they werent really characters. Characters emote and that costs money he'd rather spent on something else. Adding to that the need for more details and jagged shapes so that the light can bounce off it and have the transformers appear more like they are sharing the same scene as humans and you get a very clear sense of how all those previous films are the way they are.

I agree with a lot of your thoughts EvasionModeBee, except I didn't really get the feeling that Scourge was simpler than the other Terrorcons, I think he still blended in well.

The "welcome to earth" tones in that final charge away from the collapsing portal was awesome. I loved it!

A shame the Transit scene was cut, but glad to hear they will try to get it into the deleted scenes section of the physical release. I still hope Transit gets a toy.

I would welcome Cable Jr. back for a sequel, I think he did real good here. I also appreciate all that went into Mirage now that we know more about how that character, personality, and design all came along. I also welcome back Noah, he was my favorite of the human leads in the TF movies.

Also, my new favorite bot:

Saw it a second time this morning and I am still struggling with something.

"If you could follow those symbols to Peru, so will Scourge."

[And]

"We need to hurry, Scourge could already be on his way there."

Okay, but... how?

A native-to-Earth anthropologist managed to connect the symbols at the two sites by way of being incredibly gifted, well-educated, and maybe a little bit lucky (with tens of thousands of pages of history to go through looking for a match to the symbols, she seemed to land on the right ones really quick).

Scourge arrives on a completely alien planet with his posse in their little bitty clown-car spaceship and he is going to quickly find the missing half of the key how? Searching for clues in the museum he incinerated? Rolling into the local library? Cold calling experts on ancient aliens? Setting up a webpage on Geocities? What was Scourge's incredibly efficient research process supposed to be?

I loved the movie as well with just two complaints- one was Unicrons voice was very underwhelming, it didn’t need to copy 86 but when a being like that speaks I figure it would be a voice that commands attention. Also the “there’s a battle on earth” song. That seemed so ridiculously out of place. Bees return and song were great, then reinforcements were called for and that stupid song came on and for like 10 seconds I was like what is Unicron trying to say!? And to top it off that’s not a 90s song is it?

But quick question, with Scorges mask comes off (sorry about spelling) didn’t his face seem organic? Maybe indicating at that point he was some kind of mutant due to Unicrons corruption but was never originally a transformer?

Scourge made several mentions of the biomass (I think?) of the Maximal planet at the beginning of the movie. I wonder if they are setting Unicron up to be a biomechanical organism. The odds of biological life in the universe (normally) would be far higher than mechanical life so being able to utilize both would be advantageous and could open up several potential storylines.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

I love music and I really get hooked into the movie right away.

The Dark Knight Returns (animated movie)
Equalizer
Age of Extinction
The Batman
Batman v Superman
Wakanda Forever (made the movie way better for me than it actually is)
300 Rise of an Empire
Inception
King Arthur
Interstellar
Man of Steel
The Dark Knight Rises

(in short, Hans Zimmer wins the oscar every single year, the man is just a god)

Steve Jablonsky really made cool scores for 2, 3 and 4 (I didn't like TF5's score at all and TF 1 he was still getting into his own).

For Rise of the Beasts I had hope they would have a distinct atmospheric score, but it was generic. Maybe I'll be more impressed on second viewing but nothing jumped out.
Same for Bumblebee, forgettable generic score.

I hope for the next movie we get an engaging and atmosperhic score again.

I hope so man, because the story was shallow as a puddle with minor 1 sentence reference to something that's actually interesting and worldbuilding.

If they up that by 500% next time and have connection between these lore moments and effects on the events of the movie then you have something that won't be seen as a shallow sunday morning 30 minute toycommercial. Which it's seen as by virtually everybody. (nothing wrong with it, but I think Transformers can be more, just like video games the transforming gimmick has soooooooooooo much potential, same as Unicron, civil war, factions, minicons etc. etc. etc.)

On potential, the GI Joe Classified line is very cool and has great designs especially the nameless Cobra soldiers. If they somehow take that visual style and god forbid take on the military style/mood of Captain America Winter Soldier/GI Joe 2 mix and then... and then merge that with Rise of the Beasts. ... I don't know man, I can't write that in 5 minutes but I think Hollywood has more than 5 minutes to write that movie.

In this movie and Bee, it was more about the SOUNDTRACK than the SCORE. I think that's why it was generic.
