Transformers Studio Series General Discussion Thread

Anyone thinking that the April 1st release date is a bit of an April Fools joke? I can't imagine zero new SS products between now and April, I mean what are they going to put out for the holidays, all the leftover heli-dropkicks?

If anything, I'm inclined to believe that the 86 figures just aren't the first wave of SS for next year, and that the leaked Bee we just got a review of and some other stuff is coming out first that they just haven't announced yet because the 86 stuff was clearly more exciting in their eyes.

Zelda is the kind of guy who see everything as either "perfect" or "complete garbage" with no middle ground. So who know what molehill is the mountain this time?

What needs to be fixed on him? The faux-parts chest. It's disgusting and there's absolutely no good reason for resorting to that. We know HasTak can do better than that - they have. They did it with Animated, they did it with TR/Legends... There's no excuse. If they were going to halfass it that much, they should have just slapped a Hot Rod head and deco on the Cybertron Hot Shot mold and saved themselves some money.

Well then, why don't you just call the PotP Rodimus Prime component good enough? Well, I suppose the SS86 piece of trash doe have backward hip movement. But that's about it.Razorbeast88 wrote:Theyre not going to "fix" the chest lol

They had better fix the damn chest. In my opinion they would be better off reissuing Legends Roddy, than releasing him as-is. They would be better off not releasing an SS86 Hot Rod at all, than releasing him as-is.
Hot Rod can be done perfectly well with a real hood-chest. Can be done, has been done, it's not even that hard. Absolutely no excuses for doing it on a standalone Hot Rod. End of story.
This could have been, and should have been, the ultimate CHUG Hot Rod. After Animated Roddy and TR/Legends Roddy, we know they have it in them to nail the design perfectly with an integrated transformation.
Instead they take the unnecessary lazy half-assed cop-out route. What a sick, twisted joke.

Actually, not really. While I'd like the chest to be real, the biggest flaw is the way the hips/plevis is designed, as it pointlessly restricts almost any backward hip movement.
And I'm not trying to hate on the figure, I think 90% of it looks great. But those hips are legit one of the dumbest design choices I've ever seen.

Not good news for everyone. I preferred the yellow. I've always considered the gold on Grimmy to be ugly. Just because the G1 figure had it, every other figure has to have it.Sentinel_Primal wrote:Some good news: Phamduc just confirmed that Grimlock'll have gold paint as opposed to the plain yellow from prototypes and renders

He said that the gold is closer to ER Sky Lynx's visor's color if that makes it any better

Yes, upon second viewing, I see that. I'm very tired right now. I even deleted my previous post by mistake, instead of editing it. Still a decent-looking figure.Sabrblade wrote:Completely new mold, no parts or engineering shared with Blitzwing, completely different altmode, and more pics to come soon.
A red, white and blue repaint of Blitzwing would have worked as well, and IMO looked even better.

I'm not so sure about the no shared engineering. I see the hinges for that faux cockpit same as Blitzwing, I'll be quite surprised if it doesn't feature similar engineering to his fellow seeker, like Cliffjumper and Bumblebee. But I digress.
I definitely am surprised our reveal was a Studio Series figure rather than a one-off as I predicted. The figure looks kinda weird. Maybe professional pictures will help. If I weren't now committed to getting all the Bee movie figures, I might skip him. I will draw the line at the rest of the seekers though, I'm not THAT crazy.

I'm pretty sure it is a repaint/remold of SS Blitzwing. Let's hope it will be better built.

Agreement, blitzwing was a massive disappointment, but, unless the mold is physically altered to include new parts to help it lock together, I already know that I'm skipping this figure
