And even worse, I'm seeing a lot of fans calling him Slug. That's just not right.
Blame the desire not to offend anyone in the world. It's not trademarks this time around
I drove by a local church the other day & the sign out front said "These days everybody is offended by everything but sin". Boy ain't that the truth? This outrage culture being offended by everything is ridiculous. Let them be offended, it's only words, it can't hurt them, they'll be fine & they'll get over it.![]()

And I have no problems calling the character by the original name in my head
But for children's sake, the name change needed to be done. It's not really fair to only give importance to murican language

How much you wanna bet "slug" is slang/slur in some other country?

As a French Canadian Québécois, I'm disappointed that no TF names have been changed to protect our feelings yet. Like, I dunno, a big mamma fembot named "Growsplott".
Who's "Slag" supposed to "insult" again?

But again, it's a name change on a box...what's it really matter? You're going to say call it Slag so why stress over what Hasbro call their product? I mean they can call all the Dinobots numbers if they really wanted to

Wow, That's really, really obscure (at least for me).
Guess I'll use that Dinobot as ammo for my shotgun then!
Hey, why not call him Slur, the swearing and cursing Dinobot?

Hopefully the next fan first Friday focuses primarily on studio series (without 86) and some of that bumblebee stuff

The toys will be out before the next one I think.
Crosscheck wrote:My only issue with the word Slug is that it is really close to Sludge. But, as it works better as a worldwide name, I am fine with it. And yes, in this context, I am guessing they are going after the word for a punch. Given that Slug is the more violent of the Dinobots (despite being based on an herbivore), the name fits him quite well.
People are going to have to get over the name change. Slag as his name is pretty well gone forever.

Does no one realize the term slug can be used to reference being punched really hard? as in 'slug slugged some poor' I think it fits just fine seeing as they all seem to suffer from violent tendencies

I mean, that is pretty much explicitly what I said in my post. I still think it is a hair too close to Sludge though.
