Transformers Studio Series General Discussion Thread
Re: Transformers Studio Series Discussion
Can't say I'm too interested in this, maybe if it were a two pack with a non sited Spike figure or a Daniel figure. Then again this a Transformers line not human action figure line.

I didn't mention it in the article but someone was adamant on Twitter, that the picture on the back of the box looked like Daniel more then Spike.

I had the same thought, but I'm pretty sure the rumors say we'll get both, so it's an academic point until we start seeing the official reveals.
The big SS86 Core class question I have is about Rumble. Rumors and conventional wisdom say we're getting a Netflix Soundwave reissue or redeco and Legacy, with a reissued or updated Rumble to follow. I thought that was nuts, because Core class isn't a scale but a size, and Micromasters are less than half as big as a standard Core figure. Then we got BB SS Ravage who is very small for a Core but to scale with BB SS Soundwave. If the conventional wisdom is right, we could have a human character and a cassette on the same peg at the same time, and the human would be twice as tall. That's wild, but like I said, it's a class and not a scale.

So in a nutshell, outside of figures that are meant to interact with larger ones, Core Class should not be used for scale purposes.

Re: Transformers Studio Series Discussion
I got BB Movie Soundwave and it is a very nice figure in bot mode with nice articulation, however, that alt mode is just butt.
The transformation is frustrating at best, but at least bot mode looks really good, and all the joints are nice and stiff.

Looks great. I just hope we can remove Spike, scale be damned. He could bend at the knees and waist and "scrunch up" inside the suit to fit or just stand up straight maybe.
I'm surprised that they didn't use the "exo suit" titanmaster with an "exo suit vehicle mode" vehicle/weapon doo-dad that came with the basic titanmaster figures (or even a semi-transforming "Pretender shell" for the "power-core" figures). They could have included it with that headmaster version of Arcee.

First thoughts about the Spike Core figure? He looks a lot like "The Question" from DC comics, with no facial features to speak of, like he's wearing a stocking over his head.

And that alt mode took 11 steps? I suspect they had to count some of the limb swivels as 2 steps each to pad it out.

I noticed that Spike comes with some blast effects, does that mean the figure is being bumped up to a deluxe price point now?

He isn't in a Deluxe box so no.
I like the suit mode, but the car mode is not great. I don't like the way the "guns" on the arms and the arms themselves have switched places now and how the rear wheels are just molded in and don't spin since it doesn't look like he has any ankle joints, they really should have painted the wheels to make them more visible.
He doesn't have a sculpted face, it's just hard to see and probably doesn't have painted details. Also his blast effects don't seem to have 5mm pegs on them.

Re: Transformers Studio Series Discussion
Scale even in animation is questionable at best. Remember They were both able to fit in Rodimus Prime's cab in the movie and later Daniel in the exo-suit became Arcee's head (even if I'm not fond of the American version of headmasters, since the Japanese version makes more sense).
You would think they would put both Spike and Daniel's heads in the same package though so people could display either or buy two to showcase both. Then again they might be planning for the in box collectors and release Daniel separately.

Re: Transformers Studio Series Discussion
Honestly, if scale is already a mess in any random Transformers continuity, it's even worse in G1 cartoon/movie continuity. Remember, this is the movie where Cyclonus and Scourge go from standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Galvatron to being big enough for their boss to ride either of them, and Galvatron himself later is big enough to be visible when Unicron picks him up and gobbles him. Also, forming Devastator inside Astrotrain.
