I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the original movie soundtrack, nearly as much as the movie itself. The metal tracks were certainly considered cheesy even in 1986 but Vince DiCola's score was certainly the heart and soul.
As mentioned previously, the 20th Anniversary edition is simply the standard soundtrack we all know and love with the addition of some of the better Vince DiCola score cues missing from the original release but available on the Til All Are One Botcon disc. Vince DiCola wrote the liner notes which mentions a lot of the things that fans probably already know but still fun for nostalgia.
RUNDOWN:
(Tracks 1-10 are from the original soundtrack, sound nearly the same, maybe a little "brighter" but casually I'd never notice the difference)
11. Unicron Medley (5:27) - As the name implies this is an amalgamation of the Unicron theme cues with the first 2 and a half minutes being the initial track "Unicron's Theme" from Til All Are One.
12. Moon Base 2/Shuttle Launch (2:33) - This is exactly the same track as "2005" from the Till All Are One disc.
13. Megatron Must Be Stopped (pts 1 and 2) (6:15) - This is the combination of "City Under Siege" and "Showdown" from the Til All Are One disc.
14. The Transformers Theme (Alternate) (2:39) - This is the identical track from the Til All Are One disc. For those not familiar, it is an alternate theme song in place of the Transformers theme from Lion during the opening credits of the movie. It is basically the regular theme song from Seasons 1 and 2 sung by Stan Bush jazzed up with Vince DiCola's movie score.
My impression, going back to the Til All Are One score, was that this alternate Transformers theme was the original opening intended for the credits and created but unused in 1986.
This would make sense as DiCola's complete score is just over 76 minutes, credits roll at around 79:15 and DiCola already worked with Stan Bush on co-producing "Dare". Some of DiCola's score was jettisoned (specifically "Attack On the Shuttle") or shortened/tweaked to accomodate the metal tunes that were certainly added later.
