So I ran to Target after work today and was lucky enough to find four Broadsides! I picked the one with the best paint on his visor to take home. He's a lot of fun! I'm ignoring the "plane" mode forever, but I'm impressed with just how bulky he is. I kind of wish he was a leader class so he'd scale better with my Lost Light shelf, but the bulk he has convinced me anyway.

Also I had my Triggerhappy in a drawer while I'm attempting to reorganize my shelves but you guys reminded me why he should never be off my desk. So here he is.

Excuse the Admiral Ackbar, he got here in the mail today too and he also looked really good.

Yeah, the bulk was absolutely my favorite thing about Broadside when I picked him up a while back. He's a bit short for a Voyager I guess, but the total volume just looks so impressive it's easy to see him as a hulking giant even though he's way shorter than Astrotrain and co. Something about the height-to-volume ratio and his aesthetics have me headcanoning him as as an old "Deluxe"-type from back when Cybertron had more resources to spare when creating new 'bots - gives him even a bit more character, as well as making him feel like a super-impressively-large Deluxe instead of a bulky-but-regular-massed Voyager.

(And yes, I apparently worked not only size classes into my fictional headcanon, but a justification for the notable differences in size over time. I don't even know how I did that. Plus an unintentional SU homage too, I guess? Will my totally accidental creativity never end.)

Broadside was one of the toys I really wanted an update to, having the rather crap in a fun way g1 toy as a kid.

The TR version is definitely a missed opportunity thanks to his jet mode... though I ended up playing with him more as I was trying to come up with my own configurations for the legs. It's a pity because if they worked on the legs a bit more... maybe by having them swivel both at the knee and at the hips, and making sure the fins are pointing in a more traditional way it would have helped...

The other prob is his poopy weapon. The original came with an axe, a gun and two missiles. An axe with semi translucent blue plastic would've been a nice touch or at least they could've repurposed alpha trion's sword.

Otherwise he's nice and bulky and his aircraft carrier mode is excellent. The little aerialbots were a cute touch... they're attached to my fortress maximus at the mo so they don't get lost...
My personal prime collection so far in descending order of how great i reckon the toy is -
FE Prime, Silas Breakdown (Powerizer), Dreadwing (Powerizer), FE Bulkhead, Voyager StarScream (Powerizer), Ratchet, Soundwave, Arcee, Voyager Megatron (Powerizer), Wheeljack, Thundertron (Powerizer), Ultra Magnus (Powerizer), Knockout, Cliffjumper, Bumblebee,Airachnid

Oh we have a quick reply function now ? !!

Cool.

Oh and I don't mind FOC Jazz either his hinge is a bit finicky and I'm paranoid about breaking the hook tabs - but he's not atrocious.

I don't have such positive feelings about the FOC Combaticons though.

---

I think Titans Returns is a good line overall - most of it has a decent amount of paint - the little head-dudes are bags of fun.

On the negative side - some of the stickers are very poor quality and I had to nail polish and varnish the joints on some of them rather a lot - Megatron was like a rag doll out of the box - his legs would wiggle back and forth when you gave him a gentle shake.

Perhaps Alpha Trion's vehicle mode is a bit halfhearted mostly due to a lack of paint on his flight deck - but his other two modes are mostly fine. Blurr is also really lacking some paint too.

But over all I play with the line all the time and I find them fun to mess with -TR Chromedome seems to have become my "Go too" fiddle former lately.

So full transparency, I've bought 1 TR voyager and exactly 0 Leaders, so I'm basing my opinion off the Titan Masters, Legends, and deluxes, and I dunno, I can't think of one figure I dislike or was disappointed with, or that I would place below average. The closest I guess would be Hardhead, but even he works very well as Hardhead. It would have been tough to make him any better in that size class. And I suppose I was disappointed with the surplus of stickers (especially with he cell phones) but that's not anything against the figures them selves.

Maybe I just haven't gotten enough golden age figures, or maybe I'm still so hazed by Remolder Wars that any change would be appreciated. ;)

While it might have gotten a bit off topic, there was some great discussion in the past couple pages. Really great talking points. It makes it fun to be a Seibertronian when we really get into discussions like that with so many different opinions but still keep it very civil. ;)^ Good Job, everybody.

Triggerhappy might just be the best damn deluxe in TR. I absolutely adore him, even with two of the same gun. Oh well, those guns suck anyway and he has his flip-out arm cannons, which do not suck. But seriously, he's just perfect. A really nice Decepticon grunt robot mode, a classic space-shooter vehicle mode and dear god that transformation is sublime.

If/when you get Kup, you might find he gives Triggerhappy a run for the top spot. Also a fantastic transformation. I keep bouncing between the 2 of them as the top of the line so far.

Aaaaaaanyway...

Am I the only one who kinda wants a Voyager or Leader scaled version of Scorponok in TR (even though it will probably never happen)? I suppose I'm biased as I grew up with Cybertron Dark Scorponok, but I quite like the idea of him as a bigger than average, huge even, but not "walking apocalypse" sized. If he were Voyager sized he could have an Energon Scorponok inspired jet mode for his third mode, and if he were Leader sized then of course he'd have a base mode.

Agreed!!!!!! I think what gives tiggerhappy the ege is his nice deco while Kup's is not universally liked. Transformation wise though, they are both sublime. Topspin is way up there too. Its totally refreshing how they gae a brand new take on a toy that was once a one step.

A Voyager/Leader Scorponok would be great for fans of the comics, not so much for fans of animation. There are some nice 3P offerings, but Yes, to satisfy everyone it would be nice to have both (slightly larger than standard size TF & Titan size).

In fact, regarding Fortress Maximus, I actually think Sky Shadow, in bot mode, looks really close to IDW Fort Max, I know the alt mode would have to be completely redesigned.

I know not everything in toys effects the comics, but they did at least do a nod in TR IDW by having Fort Max pilot a Titan that had the appearance of something like his Titan-Size self would appear. besides...Fort Max hasn't been seen since then. I know he did not end up with the rest of the crew of LL, but it would be nice for him to appear in OP or TAAO (would have been helpful against the undead titans heh...) just so we know what he's up to...maybe in time.

Also if Scorponok is the proposed Titan for 2018, I wonder if they will shoehorn in a "big mode" for him in IDW next year...he hasn't been around in a while either. :-?
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Oh yes, Topspin (and Twin Twist) are definitely on the list. Both of 'em look awesome, especially given their original toys.

Kup I'm not sure on. I actually kinda dig the Takara version with its new face, new forearms and sexy, sexy grey deco (inaccurate for certain but it looks so coooool), but Hasbro's just...doesn't do it for me. Maybe it's the paint layout, I dunno. But it does look like a great mold and I will add it to my collection in some fashion. If I do get Kup then I guess my PRID Kup will become Ironhide. I probably won't even bother repainting him given that he'd be a different colour to either TR Kup anyway, and I can justify it the same way Hasbro justified giving Movie molds bizarre but cool new decos (Call him "Mangrove Manhunt" Ironhide and headcanon him as being sworn enemy of Bludgeon, who is so good at the art of stealth that he manages to menace Ironhide despite not even being in my collection...yet...).

Though I will say, if they bring out the TR Kup mold as Ironhide I'd buy the hell out of it and retain my Kup as, uh, Kup. I dunno, I can see it working.

How about you wait till that mold is reused for another character. If Krok and Quake are any indication, these bodies can work really well for other characters even if it wasnt their original intention.

I feel the exact same way about Kup. I like the character enough to get a new one, but the color layout on the Hasbro one bugs me. Plus again, I'm a little colorblind so grey Kup looks close enough to me.

Found Broadside and Black Shadow at Toysrus in Pleasant Hills, PA. And if they're around here they'll be saturated soon enough. Didn't buy either because Broadside doesn't interest me (even if I ignore the jet mode) but oh man I'm going to have to get Black Shadow. He looks gorgeous in person.

If we want to sort of look over the entire line I've enjoyed it, not as much as others but it's still really good. I'm not a fan of how G1 some of the figures look and I was kind of not feeling the line for a while. But then I handled Triggerhappy and my faith was restored. Now I find myself wanting all of Wave 4 except for Broadside, Chase, Quake, and Repugnus. I find the Voyagers have been some of the weaker figures in my opinion.

Actually yeah, I'm wondering... of the 6 Voyager molds we have so far, what does everyone feel about them? I've only got Megatron and I adore him, but what about Galvatron, Trion, Sentinel/Astro, Broad and Prime/Tankor? How do they rank against Megs if you've got him?

I have Sentinel, Astrotrain, Legends Galvatron, Alpha Trion and now Broadside. I really like the proportions and stature of Galvatron and the Sentinel mold a lot, and Broadside is definitely there too. My only real issues with Galvatron were the helmet and the way it attached, the cannon placement and the jet mode. I was able to cut off and glue the helmet and after that he looks fantastic. His cannon would look nicer attached on the side, but I can deal with it. I would have liked no jet mode though, it would have been nice if they didn't force every TR voyager to be a triple changer, Galvatron would have looked perfect with just his cannon mode. Also Sentinel and Astrotrain both have loose hips and knees. They aren't bad enough that they can't stand up, but I do have to be careful posing them. Galvatron's joints are fine, easily the tightest of the voyagers I have.

Alpha Trion is probably my least favorite of the bunch - he's got a weirdly shaped lion mode and the ship mode is just alright, plus his robot mode feels too bulky for the character. To be totally honest I really only got him to add his head to Scourge's body to customize my own like Cheetimus did. I haven't done it yet, but from his pictures it look really nice. My Trion also had loose wrists and ankles in beast mode, which makes him a pain to stand up.

I've already talked a bit about Broadside on this thread, but i want to again - he's probably my favorite voyager so far. His only issues are a loose ankle and a couple nonessential joints (the control tower in aircraft carrier mode) and some pegs in carrier mode that don't hold together very well, as well as the awful stickers they're using now. Thee's no way those are going to last. I'm personally hoping Reprolabels gets on it soon, I'd like to paint some more details on mine and get some more permanent stickers on him. Either way he's still my favorite right now with Galvatron right behind him.

Also the tiny Aerialbots are a fantastic touch, I'd love to see more of that where they're appropriate to use.

Honestly the voyagers are a mixed bag for me. Mostly I like them, but the ones I have are plagued with a lot of loose joints and quality control issues - despite how much I liked Broadside the one I bought was the only one of the four on the shelf with the visor properly painted on. I do realize this could be bad luck on my part, but it's still happening a little to often for me to ignore, especially in the Sentinel mold. I think the designs are mostly solid but quality has fallen quite a bit as far as how these guys hold together - I feel like the deluxes are doing much better right now. No clue about Prime or Megatron - I'm skipping the Prime mold altogether since I don't need him or Octane (plus those enormous stickers in truck mode - yikes) and passing on Megatron for MMC's version that looks closer to his MTMTE character. I've seen him in stores twice and I'm also not impressed with the dull plastic color.

The little pylons/guns/chunks of plastic that pop up next to their heads are awful in my opinion. They're really annoying and I haven't seen one look good yet outside of Takara's Leo Prime. I guess it's an interesting idea but it makes their heads look way too wide.

Sorry for the long rant, I don't have a ton of friends close by I can talk to about this stuff.

I haven't liked the pylons either, I tried it on Megatron and it just looks... odd. I think the idea is to give the illusion of a slightly bigger head for a Voyager in comparison to a Deluxe (similar to how the leaders all have helmets for proportionally-sized heads) but they just look really dumb and the heads honestly look fine in proportion to the Voyager bodies. Ah well, can't complain too much since they're all optional and half the time I forget they're there; just seems really odd and pointless at the end of the day.

Quality of the joints is something I've definitely noticed in my Megs - it is starting to worry me. The designs are very good and I feel the plastic is good too, but I do wonder about the QC control on the joints...

And no worries, I'm the same :)

You can scratch eject off the list, hasbro said we wouldnt get him, nor the blue decepticon one.

But thats ok, Eject had a ton of love in all his G1 rereleases.

Didn't buy either because Broadside doesn't interest me (even if I ignore the jet mode) but oh man I'm going to have to get Black Shadow. He looks gorgeous in person.
.

What stopped you from buying Sky Shadow?

Kurona wrote:Actually yeah, I'm wondering... of the 6 Voyager molds we have so far, what does everyone feel about them? I've only got Megatron and I adore him, but what about Galvatron, Trion, Sentinel/Astro, Broad and Prime/Tankor? How do they rank against Megs if you've got him?

I have a real hard time with ranking the voyagers, they all have their pros and cons. I have this top 5 best triple changers list and I dont even know if any of these can even compare to G1 astrotrain. I guess the only one who has 3 nice modes is Voyager Megs and Blitzwing but the deco on megs is ass and yet looks better than Blitzwing who has fake kibble.

I think my favourite is TR astrotrain simply because the transformation is fun, its an old concept finally brought to light, all the alt modes are interesting and have cool references, and his robot mode is the best of all of em. But its not like he beats em all by a huge margin either.
