I'd think that orphaning a key component of one mold to have it integrated into another mold entirely would be more effort than casting two separate molds with that extra "orphaning and integration" step added in.

It's tougher for the designer and engineer to implement, sure, but not having to cast a new steel mold is really cost saving for Hasbro.

You also save on time spent when the designers can cut, copy, paste components from one CG model to the next. Less time means more money.
This shows how different the process has changed since, say even 10 years ago.

But, it kind of brings a nice broad cohesion to the over all design style. I like that.

Those were each made from the same mold, though. Prime and Max are reshells of Magnus and Metroplex. Blurr/Brainstorm and Chromedome, however, aren't even that.

well...they really need to update those original molds(Soundwave & Blaster) coz cassette players nowadays are so obsolete! with most audio media format on mp3's these days!(yes! i know the new TR figs that interact with Soundwave & Blaster are some kinda weird data device cartridge).

Because it makes no story-line sense as to why enemies would have the same body-type like that (unless some clone/relatives silliness and even then Transformers can change body types when necessary) and even if it did happen I would imagine one of them would change pretty quickly to avoid comparisons with their hated foe. I would think a Decepticon would loathe resembling any Autobot (ok you get Nemesis Prime but I never liked that cheap excuse for a black repaint and his gimmick IS that he looks like Optimus whereas Blaster and Soundwave aren't meant to look alike)

Reminds me a bit of when Venom first appeared in Spider-Man and Spidey went back to his red and blue cos his black costume was too similar to Venom (since cos the symbiote alien of Venom was Spidey's black costume before he got rid of that alien and went with a cloth version of the costume til Venom appeared) and Venom had freaked out Mary Jane and she hated seeing Spidey wearing the black costume.

Also it's just BORING.

Yeah but those 3 are all main-line figures you'd find in actual shops. The ones where they haven't been since G1 tend to be strange occurences like the Device Label or lines where one or the other just doesn't have a reason to exist (such as the movie stuff where Soundwave's figures just wouldn't have worked as Blaster and avoid the tape deck gimmick thing pretty much altogether).

But where would that leave the areialbots and seekers (thinking ghost starscreams body from the grand galvatron toy and hasbro blastoff) since they share body types.

Story wise I can see them having similar bodies as they have similar roles.

Personally, it's always been that way and I roll with it.

Also I feel stupid that I forgot the wfc/foc soundwave and blaster.

Well there are tons of them, you should do some research first


I won't innumerate them, you can go look for them yourself, but ~80% of the Mastermind Creations reformatted line come to mind, or the ddj series from them; I have 'not Solus Prime' form mmc, got her for $60

And boy do you get what you pay for. Incredible engineering, solid plastic, paint apps everywhere, good sculpting, no hollowness... Once you have tasted the sweetmeats of the world of third party you will never be able to look at Hasbro's product the same way again.

Most CHUG scale 3P figures are under $100, unless they're really, really big. The only figures that tend to be over $100 are large characters, combiners (and even then the individual robots tend to be under $100) and MP scale stuff.

Let's not do the whole third party thing here, comparing them is futile as they have different priorities and third party stuff isn't subject to the same restrictions as hasbro.

If ironhidesh wants 3rd party stuff that's fair enough, you want hasbro stuff then that's fair enough as well

funny how when i mention 3p figures, people end up chastising me for the inhumanity of such a thing being spoken about on a NON 3p thread! but yet when OTHER people mention it, it's an acceptable topic

Anyone else's wallet having a panic attack from calculating how much getting the entirety of Titans Return lineup thus far revealed? Not counting Scourge and Blurr, it's going to cost $320+, and that's not counting Fortress Maximus!

Sorry for my posts I'm just really irritated and grumpy right now due to personal issues and it's got nothing to do with Seibertron or anyone here.

Pretty much. Though I will say Scourge is warming up to me, and I kinda want him. Blurr'a a definite pass.

I try not to think about how much this line will cost me...rather think about how cool the cities will look (till trypticon comes in to smash them)
