Transformers War for Cybertron: Earthrise Discussion Thread
Re: Transformers War for Cybertron: Earthrise Discussion Thread
Like I said before, the thing which keeps the people less attached to the early GEEWUN stuff is there but its often an afterthought. There is still the near entire Victory chunk of G1 untouched, as well as Euro G1 and most of G2 that wasn't repaints. That's the core of the issue. Its not even 'G1' pandering, its pandering to the first two years with chunks of the third and somehow saying that's all that matters or was cool about the franchise. That is peak GEEWUN. Its the very essence of the salty fanboy who think the series stopped being good when they killed Optimus Prime.
Right now its on a delicate balance where there's enough of that and '84 stuff but my guts tell me it won't last. Reality is when people mean 'G1' they just mean '84, '85 and the Movie/Season 3 characters people are nostalgic about.

But the cab and trailer aren't separate. That's why Optimus had gray hands that needed to be painted blue. The hands, as well as the inner shins and the back of the head, are all gangmolded with the trailer.Rodimus Prime wrote:Yeah, if that's how the original trailer was. That depends on the scope, budget and cost assigned to WFC, in comparison to market return. If the next line, has no G1 basis to it at all and makes more money, HasTak will stick with that and not even think twice. ALA Beast Era, UT etc
Now you're just ignoring facts. When Hasbro was doing Energon, whatever and whatever (the Unicron trilogy which was geared towards little kids and had no interest for me beyond almost scientific curiousity), there were still G1 toys. This is during the heydey of commemorative series retrograde repros that killed the actual nostalgia market of people going back and getting the originals.
As as far as your so-called "Beast Era", firstly, the original Beast Wars toys was just a continuation of G1. Optimus Primal WAS Optimus Prime. Megatron WAS Megatron. This only changed when the show came out after the fact. And while Beast Wars was being produced, they brought the European exclusive guys out in the United States as Machine Wars, where all the G1 staple guys where changed to new alt-modes but still referenced as those original characters.
In short, there has never not been G1. And if you want to pull the Japanese continuity out of your ass again to state they "moved beyond" Convoy and Megatron, well - even they brought them back.
But to the point of Hasbro being in some situation where the market dictates that they 100% focus on something else and drop any and all production of "G1" related stuff, well - again, it all relates and there is no situation where the market will dictate that. It's just as much a fantasy as the entire concept of the franchise.
You sue for the massive change of a beloved franchise out of what? Some sense of 'stagnation' in the brand because you're tired of the same old characters? Or is it something else? I'm really not sure. All I hear when I read your posts is "G1 bad, G1 bad, G1 bad" when I don't see anyone saying Energon bad, Cybertron bad, Armada bad (got em!). I don't have an affinity for those parts of the franchise, but I don't also discount them as necessary steps in the franchise's history. When they add those characters to the overall "Geverything" (yeah, I invented that) tapestry and storyline that's been building up for years now I buy those guys when they appeal to me. I skip them when they don't - same as I do with characters from "G1 proper" when they're not a character I have a particular fondness for.
Still, Hasbro is giving you (somewhat slowly, I will concede) the biggest sandbox Transformers has ever had for you to play in but all you want is for them to stop making characters that the vast majority of people find resonance and relevance in. It must be exhausting carrying this banner that no one is picking up. I know you'll retort you don't get worked up over it, but it's like...your whole thing from what I can see.

You and your "GEEWUN", man. It's insulting. And wrong. At least for my part. I collected Transformers from 1984 to 1988 (I still have my Action Master Megatron, minus two missiles) and again from 1990 to whenever. When the US stuff dried up I sought out the Japanse cartoons. The idea of getting the toys imported in the early 1990s was quite simply inconceivable to most people. We live in an age where the world has become much closer together than it was even 30 years ago.
I don't see Transformers as 84, 85 and the movie guys. It's ridiculous. You probably weren't even "there." Still, there was what was marketed to "me" and what was marketed to the UK and Japan and so, that's going to be what I and those like me will focus on. GEEWUN my sign function.
Also, your opinion doesn't even comport with CURRENT facts. The selects line is making Japanese TFs beyond the G1 dates you state. Sure, it's Star Convoy and Ultra Megatron, but hey, maybe they think Victory Saber or whatever won't sell. They did Overlord and Black Shadow, who last time I checked initiated outside of the United States. Piranacon is made as King Poseidon (his Japanese appellation) and he's not a Convoy or a Megatron. Hasbro didn't even change his name to the American version for the release. Stepper? Didn't they do him? Artfire Masterpiece is a totally Takara construct, but he exists. Hasbro clearly sees there is an audience who wants these characters, and G1 'salty fanboys' want to add them to their sandbox. And, I guess, little kids will see a cool character and want that blue and purple big base tank plane guy thingy with no context.
You want them to do Victory? Okay. But most people have never seen it. And if they did, it had subtitles. You're very much into elitist fan territory with Headmasters, Super God Masterforce, Victory and their ilk. The hilarious thing to me is, when this site went up it had screen captures of all the Headmasters cartoons for people who were CLAMORING FOR MORE "GEEWUN" material, even though we all knew it branched off from the US fiction.
None of that is to say those toys wouldn't be welcome, because they are, or Hasbro wouldn't touch them. But they've clearly (and in my view, accurately) determined that they have inject that stuff slowly. Heck, JAPAN isn't (or wasn't before the brand unification) making those guys. They did a poll just to get Masterpiece Star Convoy. A poll meant for Japanese people. Takara was making what they wanted (or rather thought would sell). That wasn't Victory Leo or Dezarus or Dai Atlas or any of those guys. But you blame the fans from holding that back.

Of course none of this manchildren toy **** really matter because the world economy is tanking and we are heading straight into an absolute dystopia where food will be a bigger concern than little robot dudes. Yet here we are arguing about stupid robot manchild **** at the world's end. We're not going to survive this. The dystopian hellhole that will follow will make those of us who survive wish we'd been killed by the vius.

I sadly don't have a single Victory figure, unless you count CW Liokaiser.

The poll was for Star Saber to be fair

I think this argument needs to lay low now. No one is gaining any ground and arguments are just getting more heated. Let's just get back to Earthrise... Or the lack of it because of Covid-19

Re: Transformers War for Cybertron: Earthrise Discussion Thread
I get there's a lot of inherent problems with the obscure Japanese G1 and other 'weird stuff' and I absolutely get it will never get more than maybe one figure in a main line and some SELECTS stuff. However there's still the issue of what happen to these Voyager/Leader G1 Optimus needed every line. Hasbro has run out of G1 Optimus designs to redo and I'm honestly unsure of how they could top off Siege and now Earthrise's Optimus. What's there to improve on a mass retail figure, short of a mega budget increase for CHUG? Roller? A version with a deployabled red-orange translucent hand axe?
My point is that there isn't anywhere else to go from Siege/ER Optimus and their ilk. If they keep redoing them every line what is there to change? At that point they might as well reissue ER Leader Optimus every new trilogy because there's so little to add or improve upon.
Short of a budget increase it is the definitive, final CHUG Optimus Prime.

Maybe a Take 2 attempt at Powermaster OP? Since a lot of fans were bummed that the TR figure was just the super mode without the cab having its own separate robot mode. After all they redid Ultra Magnus in Siege with the cab robot and armored super robot, even after the Thrilling Leader was awesome as is.Skritz wrote:Hasbro has run out of G1 Optimus designs to redo and I'm honestly unsure of how they could top off Siege and now Earthrise's Optimus. Do you guys think that Soundbarrier was born a shield or just turned into one?
I can see someone like Shockwave stripping their parts down to the bare and just adding a telefolding shield to their back.

That is possible and doable but I think it wouldn't be 'right' without a Weaponizer/Modulator 'Apex Bomber'. There's also a direct redo of G2 Laser Rod, given the TR version was an Octoane pretool.

I think he was born a shield. Just a rank and file made to be a living defensive tool. There's a story there of one fighting to become more, who puts his spark into bigger and deadlier bodies till he's forgotten what he was and kills to null his pain.

Re: Transformers War for Cybertron: Earthrise Discussion Thread
I'll definitely pick up Snapdragon, Doubledealer and the Race Track Patrol.
I like that Knok and Skar are cassettes for Doubledealer now. It's nice to see someone else with the gimmick besides Soundwave and Blaster.
The vulture head seems very faithful to the G1 toy.
Snapdragon was my second childhood Decepticon and my 5th Transformer. I'm not fond of the off white plastic. It didn't look good on Apeface or Titans Return Megatron.
I'm also not fond of the connected optics/visor but none of my reservations will prevent me picking him up. I'm delighted to finally get updated versions of Snapdragon and Fasttrack.
The Race Track are a must as I gave the G1 team to my brother's kids months ago. They were delighted to get toys their father owned.
I'd prefer an update of Barricade though as the G1 toy's arms were ridiculously short. Thankfully, Siege has already fixed that problem with it's updates of Powertrain, Ironworks and Red Hot.
Since Combiner Wars started, we've gotten some fantastic updates of lesser known Transformers and new G1 characters in the last few years. It's been a great time to be a Transformers fan.

My son’s Earthrise Prime week 2. He's got some play wear that reveals the mold colors, but is still amazingly tight and poseable. He's addicted to changing shape, as my son transforms him 2-3 times a day.

What is he good for?

I just got the last two guys from ER Wave 1, and can't decide which I love more. hoist has an awesome callback-style transformation, although the front of the truck mode feels a tad empty. Cliff is probably the coolest Deluxe of this wave, transformation-wise, which is saying something because I looooove Wheeljack. I'm just wondering if they could have put some more plastic in the package; maybe a few more guns, or a club or something? Cliff needs more weapons.
All I truly want to know at this point is who they're going to redeco/remold CJ into: Tap-Out, Hubcap, Glyph, Bumper? 'Cause whoever it's going to be, I'm going to buy extras to paint into whomever is left out.

Hubcap and Bugbite have Selects listings, the idea of Goldbug came from talking here a week or so ago about whether people think a Bumblebee is coming or not.
