Unicron Trilogy had some cool designs, but let's be honest, the stories and writing for those shows were not very good.
Writing and storytelling for Transformers has still never been as good as it was for Beast Wars in the mid-to-late 90s. Though Transformers: Prime had its moments.

I recall in the past, the IDW comics have incorporated some of the new toy designs. It's never been all that strict, and we have gotten some of the versions of IDW characters in toy form.
As for Siege, I just see it as an offshoot or another version of the Generations line. They are just giving it this War for Cybertron: Siege theme, reminiscent of the Cybertron video games. However, the designs seem to have more of a G1-Earth-like bent rather than going more stylized like the video game route.

To my mind,
the figures vehicle modes seem
POST Earth.
As if
after the G1 era concludes,
they all return to space,
their alts adapting in the process.
A hybridization amalgam of
Earth & Cybertron aesthetics.

I feel like you might have contradicted yourself a bit here. Horrocon Snapdragon is, by G1 standards, a great figure that changes from a T-rex type creature to a spacecraft to a robot without looking like a dinosaur with wings to form the vehicle mode. It can definitely be done. I believe much of what we saw in Transmetals was entirely intentional. They were never meant to look like vehicles in their third form, just animals with added vehicle components.

What I would really like for Siege is a brand-new Wheeljack. And I mean a new Wheeljack from scratch.
The last two Generations figures we received were Wheeljack were retooled figures.

I would love to see a Wheeljack with his Cybertronian mode from MTMTE. As for that vehicle mode of Siege leader Prime, if it hasn't been made clear until now, that vehicle mode is definitely a retool of Ultra Magnus. I will probably get it if I see it in stores.

Can't wait for toyfair next month, I cant really wait for a proper Apeface and an updated Snapdragon, Transmetal Megatron can be good as a Snapdragon retool

As expected, Leader Optimus is no substitute for the original, but should still be a fun figure. Doesn't look like he can form his flight vehicle mode. Weapon platform mode for the trailer should be do-able. The canons seem to be interchangeable since they're on the opposite sides of where they were on the in-hand images we saw of super mode (which is the correct sides), unless the photo has been flipped. He needs the blue light bar, it looks like it's been sculpted in, but left unpainted.

It doesn't look like he'll have his flight (alt) mode. the angle the hinch of the wings is at doesn't make that possible. And adding to that the guns at the tips of the wings would face backwards.

Despite some other issues like the lack of a second pair of front wheels, the kind of visible fake wheels on his wings, a lot of missing cool gimmicks from the original and that he's just plane ugly (compared to the original at least).

Out of the 3 leaked images so far this looks like the first to show that he does indeed come with a hand held blaster that pegs into the front of one of the cannons.

Which bring me to something which bugs me: why is Ravage still a cat in this line? Don't get me wrong, I like him and I get it's TEH GEEWUN but it bugs me that the Soundwave cassettes turn into earth animals in robot mode.
Aside from a throwaway line at the beginning of Marvel's G1 comics, there's no indication that Cybertronians went through an evolutionary process akin to what shaped life on Earth - since most of the life on Cybertron seems to spring from the planet itself, and since the created lifeforms' capacity for self-replication/reproduction is limited at best, such a process would be impossible. Even if Cybertronian life did evolve like terrestrial life, the fact that their environment imposes entirely different challenges to those life on Earth has contended with would produce lifeforms that look VERY different to life on Earth - but that's clearly not the case.
Given that 'evolution' makes no sense as an explanation for the characteristics of Cybertronian life, life on Cybertron is likely the product of intelligent design. Some intelligence - Primus if you're a comic fan or the Quintessons if you're a cartoon fan - likely shaped Cybertronian life deliberately, and - notably - they shaped the dominant form of life on Cybertron to look suspiciously like terrestrial human beings. (Which would be an especially interesting choice for the Quintessons, who themselves do not look human.)
Given that the human form is based on millions of years of compromises and concessions to natural selection rendering it relatively inefficient for what it's required to do, it's unlikely the Cybertronians' creator(s) would have chosen to mimic it when building an organism from scratch. Cybertronians would grow/develop at a wildly different rate (or be outright manufactured), support a very different distribution of weight, be constructed of entirely different materials, and have the capacity to change form at will - all elements which would wildly impact design choices when creating their default 'bot form'. The conclusion would seem to be that the Cybertronians' creator(s) were more artists than engineers, and chose to emulate humanity for aesthetic reasons. However, given that the hominid Cybertronians predate human beings by a considerable margin of time, that also doesn't make sense.
In short, the origin of the Cybertronian design would be a fascinating topic to pursue in depth in the fiction at some point, but as it is, it's just nonsensical. So if you can accept that Megatron has the one head, two arms, two legs, eight fingers, two thumbs, two eyes, one mouth, one nose, upright gait and general proportions of a human being despite being 7 times taller, made of metal instead of flesh, and propelled by Energon instead of carbohydrates, then it seems like a trivial stretch to accept that Ravage is a kitty cat.

His and 'bee's altmodes from the v. first episode would have been very cool for this line.

Leaked Image Of Transformers War for Cybertron Siege Leader Class Optimus Prime Alt Mode
- Motto: "My past no longer binds my future..."
- Weapon: Battle Blades
For all those following the recent leaks of The rumored Leader Class Optimus Prime toy, you'll know that the only image left to see was Prime in alt mode...Well thanks to fellow Seibertron users, bacem and SuriviveFan32 we now have the alt mode to look at! This image was found being shared by the TransFans Facebook group, and we have mirrored it for you all below.
For comparisons sake, here is a similar picture of the original Cybertron Leader Class Optimus Prime that this new toy is based off.

Transformers Cybertron Optimus Prime (Galaxy Convoy) Gallery
While it looks like the toy won't be able to do the flight mode that the original toy could do due to lack of the necessary joint, it looks to do a brilliant job at emulating the now fourteen year old toy.
What do you think about this? Will you be picking up this Prime? Are you only choosing one Prime from this line or going for both? Let us know in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews!

Once more, I gotta say that the Siege line is my favourite one from recent years. Despite the overall greatness of everything G1-related that came since Combiner Wars, this particular one will retain a special place in my heart.
To stay a little more in-topic, although the alt mode is a little "bricky", my real concern is the inner robot, that didn't seem all that great from the leaked pics... still, I'd pick it over the one without the trailer anytime, both because of the latter's rather generic alt mode and the lack of super mode.
